I don't see how she's at an advantage here. Put it this way, let's just say we have three artist's at all the same talent. If two combine i don't see how they are both at a disadvantage over a person who's on their own.

I would disagree and would say that a confident artist that does things by himself and for himself is bound to be more sucessfull. Or herself...
Not everyone is the same exact talent. Let's be more realistic here.
With no distractions and without bending over for some one else any artist should be able to be more focused and should be able to use his or her own experiences gained in art and should be able to channel those experiences and learned skills and traids towards success.
Applying another artist who could have a completely different style is just a mess . I work alone and well no one holds my toothbrush or paintbrush regullary but me and I do it the best because its for me and its done the way I want and its done the way I feel best.
i dont mean the best out of all the contestants, I mean the best of my own abilities.
Okay that's fair enough. But i'd imagine the reason why the introducion of teams was brought in was because it would give a chance for fellow EoFF's to interact, share, & on the most part be fun for the contestant's to do.Quote:

Im sorry rocketedge I see your point maybe I am OC towards arguing or maybe I just need to lighten up. I dont know , it must be college. I think college has me uptight. Anway thanks for hearing me out even though Ive been stubborn and the such. I am sorry. I just need to lighten up.
Its ok to be on a team :p Im just being a monster right now. Ill be the 1st to say it. Im looking forward to trying this compitiion and zledy, my partner, Its not that I dont like you or have confidence in you its just that I have a hell of alot of confidence in myself sometimes. Prehaps too much for my own good. We'll work together though and I will try to lighten up.
Sorry everyone I just feel like bitching prehaps the old pillow hitting thing would be better than this, posting in a forum.
That's no problem. I wish wish you & all the rest of the contestants the best of luck for this challenge.
Think of it as part of the challenge.
That way, you can't bitch about it. It's set and laid out, and further more, she has immunity anyways.
And we have an odd number...
No offense taken, lovehurts. :P
I already apologized .Suggesting that I have bitched and that if a change of thought is made that I wouldnt bitch anymore isnt necessary and it has far too great of a personall bite that I can sense, it wasnt very mature of you. I had an opinion I offended some people and apologized. I find the word bitching offensive. I was questioning the rules of a contest, I was not bitching. That sort of flavour you added there "bitching" wasnt called for. I already said that I was sorry. No need to hunt down the can of worms after it was already opened.
The poet usually doesnt start the wars. My war and my arguing or "bitching " as you so colorfully put has come to an end. There is no need to start another war. Even if you hate me please dont writte it out. I dont appreciate you trying to keep the tense feelings alive here when I myself have already siezed to have those feelings and have already apologized.
There isnt much logic to it all.
Again ValkyrieWing I am sorry. I can be a little out there sometimes. All I ask is that others be considerate of my feelings and what they say so that I can in turn realize how unsensible and how big of a jerk I am.being The fire doesnt realize how much it has burned until the water drowns it.
Again, Im sorry . I think we're done here. Atleast I hope that we are.
I do believe you are taking my statement much too personally. Think of what I said as being the old "quite yer bitching" that a sarcastic friend might say. It was meant more than anything to be an overdone, sarcastic statement. I am aware that you apologized, I was simply adding a statement of fact and perspective that you apparently took to be much more personal and biting than it was actually meant to be. I am a cold, sarcastic individual, so if you sometimes feel attacked or otherwise akin to that, know that most likely, it's not. Rather, it's simply me being the sarcastic individual that everyone sees and hears.
It's done, and yes, I didn't exactly say what I meant to portray in a very kind manner.
Just simply telling you that I meant to express that it is as it is, and that things are done now. And if you were to look back and entertain the thought of voicing more concern of the matter, that there was pespective to be had therein.
I may come as cold and aggressive, but realize that what I intend isn't always relfected in a literal, word for word sense. It was meant to be sarcastic, not an attack of any kind.
Thus, I apologize if you were to take that too deeply.
:p
Nicely done.
Well, one could say that ValkyrieWing has more of an advantage because she can adapt her MS Paint pattern into a dress easier because she made it, however, the judges will be taking that into consideration. If a team does very well in being able to blend their pieces, it will give them a higher score, whereas ValkyrieWing's pieces will be judged on a higher level. Though this may sound harsh, but it's the only I can do to make it seem fair.
EDIT: I still need judges (2 more, I think, and one guest judge) and one more contestant to join. Please sign up soon!
That's just fine. Since I do have immunity, that just means I can't lose. I can still end up doing a crappy job. :P
I have decided that the guest judge(s) for this challenge will be...
your fellow contestants! Once you turn in your picture, I will send you your assigned person's picture, and if you do the review, you get 0.5 points extra added to your total score. If you do not do the review, you lose 0.5 points. Here's who will be reviewing who:
lovehurts: Mum
ValkyrieWing: Clone#01
Nominus Experse: Zeldy
Zeromus_X: future contestant
Mum: ValkyrieWing
Zeldy: Nominus Experse
41-inches-wide: Zeromus_X
Clone#01: 41-inches-wide
future contestant to be picked: lovehurts
You may grade each other as harshly as you want, but if you give someone a 1 when they deserve an 8, I'll know, and I'll just disregard your score.
I did this because I want more interaction between you guys (which is why we had partners in the first place) and because by reviewing each other, you get the general idea of what the normal person thinks about your pattern/ clothing.
Anyways, I hope you all are making progress. Good luck!
EDIT- Zeromus_X knows. I don't know where 41-inches-wide is, though.
:D
WOW!
Oh great :) , Ive always admired Nominus Experse's work ^_^
Well, my, my, my... This is an interesting development...
I like this idea, I really do. I once was making a post concerning what I thought of other's work at one point in the second challenge, but then the power went out, so yeah... I gave up. Now I get to try again...
Having a perspective like this will be very much appreciated.
I get to be evaluated by the great and powerful Mum!
I am not worthy!
http://eoffpost.akusui.net/readartic...?article_id=43
I took his article a bit harshly because he's the second person to say that I'm not running this competition very well, but oh well. I actually found the article funny xD
Oh, and congratulations again, ValkyrieWing :D
just ignor the fecker! its his opinion!hes probably not an artist himself and doesnt care fr it at all so he wants some kind of article desperatly!the comp is grand the way it is!
Monkeys?
I dont think hiring some one to bad mouth the activites that your web site supported is a good idea. It wont draw too many people in. I give that man a F for failing to be positive. The contest is rocky and lots of people are bitching but its still going and it is still something that is being taken serious by some of our strongest artists.
I have a feeling some one who was booted off the contest as either a judge or artist had a part in that essay. Im sick of bad news in the worlds papper and now I have to read bad news here....it just gets old.
At the end he edit's it saying he take's back what he said so that post is irrelivant.
Well, people, I for one am really enjoying myself. It has been more than 2 years since I have done any artwork and this has kick-started it for me again. Its been a great bit of fun and I am enjoying interacting with new people (most of whom I still don't actually know, but thats beside the point). I think this kind of competition is a brillaint idea - its motivation and if someone cannot keep submitting work, well that just lets someone else play doesn't it. Of course there are going to be rules and questions because its a little competition, and competition is what makes each of us raise our standards (just like any other industry). (Sounds like the guy writing the article had an authority issue!) The challenge I find with this competition is the one against myself - seeing what I can do within the guidelines set out for me in the time allotted. So, for all still in - lets keep on having fun! For all those watching - it'll be your turn next time! I hope I get invited to do this sort of thing again sometime too.
:p
That is really wierd.
I didn't notice that sentence when I was reading it...
Neel is an ass - which is why I like him.
I thought it humorous and placed a bit of perspective to some bloated egos and points, if I do say so myself.
And the last line just made it even better.
I fail to see any harm done.
And how is everyone's drawing coming along? Clone#01 and I are about halfway, maybe a little more, and aim to be finished within the next two days.
Z & I have nearly completed our assignment...He's just perfecting his design (which he sent me yesterday) and I have done the pic.
Phil! He said he has plenty of free time and that he'd be able to compete, so he's now our ninth contestant. Congratulations.
EDIT: 41-inches-wide is back from being in the hospital (she had chicken pox). I would just first like to say that I'm sorry to her for thinking she just stopped caring about the competition and that she just forgot, when she was in the hospital the whole time! I'm so sorry! So, we will go back to the original judging plans:
lovehurts: Mum
ValkyrieWing: Clone#01
Nominus Experse: Zeldy
Zeromus_X: Phil
Mum: ValkyrieWing
Zeldy: Nominus Experse
41-inches-wide: Zeromus_X
Clone#01: 41-inches-wide
Phil: lovehurts
Be sure to take note of this, everyone! I don't want you judging the wrong person -_-
P.S. Phil, you are now 41-inches-wide's partner. Be sure to PM her about it. I'm sure she's PM'd you already :)
Thank you lots lots lots.
Okay, joining. Will be back this evening to check on Phil's reply.
hello! just checking in to let y'all know I'm here.
...
I just read that article. :X
Notice how he didn't say which one HE thought was best. I can't stand it when people blow smoke.
Oh well...
Pic's nearly done...:)
Yeah, hi guys. If you want to comment about Neel and his article, please do it in the EoFF Post thread, and not in here. If you disagree or feel he was being unfair or whatever, tell that to him in the other thread, this thread should be focused on the art.
i think all uneccasery posts should be deleted, this contests is gona be running for a good while and it might be hard to keep track of things if there are too many posts.
I made a video showcasing the first challenge's pieces and comments from the judges. It's not done yet, and about 30 seconds in the end is just black with some dramatic music because I haven't finished that part yet. Sorry the music is so cheezy =P
http://s103.photobucket.com/albums/m...gAnch=imgAnch1
Feel free to post any comments you have on the video :D
Anyways, I want to make a video for every challenge, but I do not think I will find the time, so if anyone wants to be the official EoFF Video maker, PM me for more details.
Also, the Top Artist deviantart hasn't been updated with the second challenge's pieces, and I don't have the time to do that either, so if anyone wants to become our official "Top Artist Deviant Art" person, PM me about it too :D
I hope all of you are mostly done, because the deadline is on Sunday and I will not be accepting late entries!
Mine's almost there!
EDIT: CHALLENGE COMPLETE!
*falls over*
I broke the rule since my partner didn't submit the MS Paint piece.
(the thing about only one partner can do one part of the work)
But I'm passing something still.
Oh well, if it's any consolation, my 8-year-old niece did the MS paint for me. Quite pretty, I am obliged to say.
*passes to tan*
I drop out. Im done with the contest. I apologize. I know its not very mature but I just dont have time for this anymore. Im sorry. I drop out. Dont let my partner fail because I chose to fail. It wasnt her choice that ultimately has effected our group. I dropped out by my own will and I effected the project in the way that I did she had no part in it.
I drop out. Skip this contest or whatever but I drop out.
Ive been sick and Ive been buisy . Im afaird that I cant go on with this any longer. Im sorry.
Might aswell just erase us both, as I was going to drop out after this task was over.
Its going back to School. Thats all my reason is. Im coming home exhausted
Im sorry
That's ok it can be late ....Here it is only 7:19 pm i have time to work on it
Whats the sudden change of heart? You was all set to drop out 5 minutes, I said erase us both and now you wanna do it again?
You know I couldn't really be totally arsed with it, but I thought Id be nice, and not leave half way through a task, but it dosn't matter. Whatever. Its too late. Im really exhausted. Its gone Midnight, here
Ok then I guess I wont go on. What's the point then. Forget it.
Catch you later.
Clone#01 and I have finished, even though I became a missionary of projectile vomit and high fevers.
As soon as I get ahold of my friend that has the scanner, it will be sent off to tan.
I enjoyed this challenge, and I very much enjoyed working with Clone#01. He came up with a pattern that was rather ingenious, even if him or I didn't know it when he first made it. He was also quite patient, and understood that projectile vomitting makes it difficult to draw efficiently. Again, many thanks Clone#01.
EDIT:Also, since Zeldy has dropped out, I'll just be a free judge if you want, tan.
Also, I would ask that Zeldy still judge mine even though she has decided to drop out. It would definately be appreciated, Zeldy. However, if you feel like you do not wish to do that, than simply say as such.
Health comes 1st for me. Inbetween my college which is the future of my life and resting to try to get better for college I didnt have time.
I take my hat off to you though for working through your sickness.
Im out, sorry Tan.
Anyways, since that's everyone (Mum and Zeromus_X sent theirs in a while ago), we'll just start the art showcase now.
Team #1:
Zeromus_X: http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...4design2-1.jpg
Mum: http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...Summertime.jpg
Team #2: Zeldy and lovehurts are erased for dropping out.
Team #3:
Clone#01-http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3.../abstract2.jpg
Nominus Experse-http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...4/Nominus4.jpg
Team #4:
Phil- http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3.../drawing-1.gif
41-inches-wide- http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...e/complete.jpg
And, of course, we have our winner from last challenge, ValkyrieWing, who had to do this challenge by herself because she has immunity. She did one pattern and both the front and back drawing of the dress.
http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...4/pattern4.jpg
http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...204/model2.jpg
http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...allenge4-2.jpg
Here's the criteria that you'll be judging on:
For the patterns:
Originality
Artistic value
How easily it can be translated into clothing
For the clothing pieces:
Originality
Detail
Believability (i.e. if you saw this dress if you were walking down the street, what would think of it?)
Ability to translate the MS piece
Here's who will be judging who:
ValkyrieWing: Clone#01
Nominus Experse: Mum
Zeromus_X: Phil
Mum: ValkyrieWing
Zeldy: Nominus Experse
41-inches-wide: Zeromus_X
Clone#01: 41-inches-wide
Phil: Nominus Experse
I did ask Zeldy to be a guest judge, and she can be an (extra) guest judge, in which she'll have to evaluate all of the pieces, but she's not obliged to :)
Anyways, guest judging reviews are not due on a specific time, though I would like them soon.
P.S. With so many people dropping out, I am requesting anyone who is
on the verge of dropping out to do it now, before the start of the next challenge. I'm not angry, I'm not annoyed, I'm not the least bit perturbed, but I want to make sure everyone who doesn't want to compete just doesn't so I don't promise guest judge spots to people, then have to skip the challenge that they were promised a guest judge spot. I had already planned out 11 (now 9, so there are 7 challenges left) challenges, and if someone drops out and I don't find a replacement, I have to skip a challenge, and it's not because I want to, it's because I have to. This is simply because we'll end the challenge early (it doesn't make sense if there are one 7 people and 8 challenges to do :\).
Mum is judging mine?
I am SO dead...:P
Sorry tan and the art work is beautifull guys. :)
Not so many memmbers left. Soon there will be a winner.
Tan thank you for the great time.:)
Sorry I had to drop out.
GOOD LUCK TO THE REMAINING!!!!
so how many people are actually still in the competition?
Oh btw- sorry to 41-inches that it took me so long to get you the ms paint peice- arg- I did it, I just forgot to send it to you and now I feel like a jerk 'cause you did all that work and now you have to change it...... but yeah... oh and Tan- grade me down, not 41 inches. the original design she did was brilliant- it was my fault if it's late. It wont happen again- I promise :D
Everyone's looks so amazing, and I think the judges are going to have a much more difficult time this time around. :)
http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...204/model2.jpg
If she was shorter and wore glasses adn was skinnier she would look like my 1st and only crush that Ive ever had.:choc2: Beautifull drawing by the way.
Yeah, wow, ValkyrieWing.
There are 7 left now.
And as an announcement:
If you are going to guest judge please do it soon. Remember, it's 0.5 extra points for your overall score. If you decide not to do it, you lose 0.5 points. If you have decided that you do not feel like guest judging, please tell me. For a list of who is guest judging who and the criteria for guest judging, go to art showcase page (the page where I posted the pieces).
Mind if I post I post it tommorow, at around 10:00AM?
Little tired as of right now, but very willing. Either way, I'll write a detailed report on Mum by 10:00AM tommorow.
G'night
That's fine, Nominus.
I forgot to mention:
When you write the review, be sure to include a score. Rate it from 1-10, with 1 being the worst and 10 being the best. You don't need to write a long review or anything, but I do want a few comments on how you feel about the piece, how wearable it seems to be, how believable it is, etc.
when do you want the result things in? o:
Review for Mum
Score: 8.5
Reasoning:
The transition of the supplied pattern to that of a dress is quite feasible. The dress is simple, yet very fun, like that of a light summer dress. The only complaints that come to mind is that the pattern, particularily that of the lemon/lime lines adorning the dress, seem to unnaturally stand out from the rest of the colours on the dress. Could be a trick of the eye, nothing more, but all the same, the lines seem to be a little apart from the rest of the other colours as they stand out far more than I think they ought to of.
The background is simple and accented with a a darker blue and a touch of green, effectivey relaxing the eye with cool colours and subtley allowing the viewer to make his association with the importance and "sunny day" feeling the dress implies. Simple and yet very effective, which really reflects what the entire premise of this competition was. I like seeing that done in the background.
The hair is done very nicely, the hands and arms are held in a natural, realistic state, and the face and eyes are mostly proportional and anatomically correct (the jaw seemed a little broad for that of woman's). The shading was simple but very well executed.
My only complaints concerning the actual model is that of her lips. To be perfectly honest, they look like something of a smear of natural lip colour. The colour is perfect, but the shape is something to be desired, and leaves me feeling a little... That one small, seemingly minute detail in all reality is a prominent feature, whther thats good or bad.
So really, Mum, as always, wonderful job, and I always enjoy looking at your work. The only things I have to complain about are a few small details that I imagine if you had more time, you would clean up. Just some minor flaws keep me from giving you a higher score.
Hope that was satisfactory.
Clone#01:
Originality- I can appreciate the simplicity of your pattern...it almost reminds me of falling leaves. But, it is almost TOO simple. It's maybe even a little boring.
Artistic Value- It's a very graceful pattern, in truth, the flow of line is very nice. I wish that a different color pallet had been chosen, even to replacing the black with wine red or something. Black and white, while artistic, dosen't end up giving a lot of energy to a piece. And what's with the white frame?
Pattern Versatility- VERY easily converted to an outfit. You could do it almost thoughtlessly, and that's my issue. There's almost NO challenge here, unfotunately. It's a little bit too easy, I think.
SCORE: 6.5
A nice pattern, but too simple. That's the only downfall.
Oh, dear...I hope I wasn't too harsh on you, Clone... ^_^;;
Some of these arent patterns they are more so abstract designs.
i just have to say that i only did it so simply is becoz thats what was said in the rules and the examples givin,it said to give a simple abstract design so thats what i did.if i'd of known it was supposed to be more complicated i would have made it that.
EDIT:ill give my review soon.
I will review Zeromus_X's design, right?
*writes* will pass a little later.
I said in the rules for it to be simple yet artistic and beautiful. I guess any MS Paint will be simple, so judging on how complex it is is a little unfair. I'll inform ValkyrieWing of this.
EDIT: I looked over her review, and I think what she means is that it is a bit too simple (thus it being boring). I mean, look at Phil's MS Paint pattern. That's simple enough, but it's not boring. I guess she kind of marked off because it was just boring. I'll ask her to explain a little more.
I am very pleased to be able to judge ValkyrieWing's submission. It was, as usual, excellent.
Pattern: May have been designed with the finished article in mind, much like a designer dress would be, so that is appropriate. The design had real style to it, feminine but bold (much like its designer, I should imagine, which is also good as a designer dress and indeed any artwork, should be able to reflect its creator). Beautiful colours, simple and flowing lines, symmetry and good form. This kind of design lends itself to material, and (without insulting the dress!) could even be used for curtains!
Model: Wow.
I just don't know how you do it, but you do it consistently well, V.
The depiction/translation of the model wearing the fabric made into a designer gown is almost perfect, but there is no setting or background. This is more like a designer's sketch in a marketing situation or pattern book, so again, appropriate for the challenge, but for marking purposes on this occasion, marked down.
As for believability/what would I think if I saw this dress in real life?...I want to know where I can get me one!
(Critique or jealousy?...>Model too thin - bring back voluptuous models!)
Points: 9.1
Almost perfectly completed challenge. Well done.
If you go into a material shop, you'll find that thats what a lot of the patterns are.
Use the edit/delete button if you have something else to add! ;D -kikimm
When I said it was simple, i meant that it was a little TOO easy to translate into the outfit. No offense intended. :)
I wanted to put a background on mine, but when i did so, i felt it detracted from the overall veiw of the dress. I took stained glass as my inspiration.
Thanks for the niceness, Mum. :)
Zeromus_X's
I scored you an eight (8)!
Originality - It's a pattern amazingly like one of my big sister's bedspread! But I can't hold it against you, it's not like you went and copied a my sis' bedspread pattern. :D Anyway, considering the design itself, I find it perfect. It's abstract, it's um well patterny!
Artistic Value - I absolutely loved what you were going with this, the jaggedy lines, how you placed the lines, overall look), and I think the tiny yellow lines are fantastic and charming. I especially like the pattern in general.
But I didn't understand the color scheme. I didn't get how cyan, pink, fuschia, light green, yellow and royal blue (!) would work well together without being pastels. The tiny yellow lines are already great as the color that stands out among the others, but the royal blue is a bit rough and confusing on the eyes. For example, one blue color on the left side looks like a whale. The other on the bottom left looks like a fertility vase. And the other I don't know.
Pattern Versatility - the pattern looks like it's absolutely exclusively made for fabric. :3 And that's fabulous, especially for this challenge.
I'll need all of the reviews by the end of today!
Since the next challenge is coming up soon, I'll give you a hint as to what you'll have to draw:
(SPOILER) It has to deal with the seven deadly sins...
This hint pretty much sums up next challenge, but I wouldn't start just yet because there's a TWIST in store... (or is there? xD)
((Is not so great at reviewing things))
Phil-Overall-8
Originality-8
For originality, I'd say it's actually somewhat original. Many of the designs used cool and darker colors, so it's refreshing to see warm colors and a bold design. The grey tones also don't seem to conflict with the red and white, at least to me.
Artistic value-9
It's very neat, and much better than I could ever do on Paint. I applaud you for making such an organized pattern with that kind of media. The pattern is actually quite complex (for a pattern made in Paint) too, so overall it's really creative.
How easily it can be translated into clothing-7
Unfortunately, if I were trying to transfer this pattern to clothing, I'd probably have to think very hard about what to do with this pattern, though that isn't necessarily a bad thing (more creativity is never bad). It just seems that'd it'd be a bit too complex for a clothing designer to transfer adequately.
Overall: Good job! I'm impressed at anyone that could do something like this in Paint. xD :cat:
Mum did suggest using summer-y colors, so I thought those would fit well. :P xDQuote:
But I didn't understand the color scheme. I didn't get how cyan, pink, fuschia, light green, yellow and royal blue (!) would work well together without being pastels. For example, one blue color on the left side looks like a whale. The other on the bottom left looks like a fertility vase. And the other I don't know.
And yeah, I've noticed the whole shape thing. I tried making the colors not be unbalanced like that, but I guess I messed up somewhere around there. xD :cat:
>>> Guess what, tan asked me to judge again..
Ok.. I just hope the contestants understand my points of view and dont get mad because of this.. Sorry if I sound a bit harsh or something..
1- All the patterns have the same "artistic" value to me because any pattern can adapt well into a clothing design if the designer knows how to do it right.. So in the end the real challenge is adapt the pattern into a suitable piece of cloth..
Sorry for being such a pain in the butt, but I just cant judge the patterns unless I give them all the same score..
2- So regarding the previous statement, what Im going to judge is mostly the cloth designer`s work and how well they adapted certain pattern into a suitable yet original piece of cloth.. Due to that I guess the two contestants who worked together will have the same score that im posting here..
3- I was surprised how everyone only used gals as models, cmon isnt that a bit un-original?..
>>> Now lets go to the judging..
Zeromus_x and mum..
Well, the pattern here was more suitable for a little girl`s swimsuit than a gorgeous model wearing an one piece dress..
Score= 04
Clone 01 and Nominus Experse
Well the dress fits the pattern, so its all fine..
Score= 06
Valkyriewing
Well Valkyriewing did her own pattern so that made things easier for her, because pattern and dress fits perfectly..
Score= 08
Phil and 41-inches-wide
Wow you guys must be pro Fashion Designers or something XD, Best pattern/dress adaptation so far, the clothing design here is very original too..
Score= 10
BTW, sorry for my lame grammar or if this dont make any sense at all..:P
Because of our double-erasing (Zeldy and lovehurts) due to dropping out, no one else will be erased this challenge. Before I post the reviews, let me introduce the judges:
We have koyasuslave, the very generous reviewer.
Black orb, the seasoned winner of the first art competition, has already posted his reviews.
And finally, we have the guest judges, who were the contestants. Phil and Clone#01 were the only ones who did not send in their review, so I decided to go against my better judgement, and become a guest judge, but just for the missing reviews.
Before I announce the winners, let me post koyasuslave's reviews and the extra two guest judge reviews I did.
koyasuslave's reviews:
Group #1- "It gets a 9! OMG! I want that dress! But sadly green doesn't look well on me. *pouts* Anyways! I'll just say I love this pic, there's just sooooooooooooooooooo many things to say on why I love it, for this short review."
Group #3- "They get an 8. I love the setting of this! It's always good to see what people would take the gothic look to drawings and clothes. I definitely would see this dress at Hot Topic. I would but it too if Hot Topic would make their dresses and pants more my size. I definitely don't wear juniors clothes, but I'm not basing my judging on that! Nominus should be a designer for Hot Topic!!!!!!!!!"
Group #4- No review due to late turn-in, but she did give a score.
ValkyrieWing- "I knew she gets imunity, but I got to say this> Oi! Fuu! When I get a sewing machine and fabric and make this dress, would you wear it? LOL!"
My guest judge reviews:
Nominus Experse:
I would say that the whole dress is very nice, I like the ruffling on the bottom, but the translation of the pattern was only done in one spot. However, I believe this would have been rather tacky if the whole thing had been the translation of the pattern, so I understand where you're coming from. It was a good dress, and the accessories give it great detail and much more believability. I like how you have a very dark and complex style; it's very good.
41-inches-wide:
This was my favorite piece. I like how you didn't just take what your partner did and simply put it onto the shirt behind the top jacket, and actually transformed it into something that looks wearable. The way the outfit stood out compared to the rest of the others was what made me think this was a really good piece. In the real world, it would not look very practical, but I think it could be pulled off. The plainness of the shirt under the jacket was a very good move because if you put the pattern in that, it would've looked terrible and I think you really thought this through. I also like the scarf because it adds a little more to the outfit. Good job!
And now for the winner:
I'd like the names of:
(SPOILER)ValkyrieWing
(SPOILER)Phil
and
(SPOILER) 41-inches-wide
to be highlighted. If you were not called, then you are not the winner of this challenge, but you are still going on to the next round. Congratulations.
(SPOILER)ValkyrieWing: This is your second week in the top three, and it's no surprise. The judges felt as though your piece was very well-drawn, very well executed, but, after all, you were your own partner, so one may say that it was easier to translate your MS Paint piece into your dress. Your only problem that one may see is that the bottom of the dress was blank; you should've made it shorter or even possibly drawn a slit on the side, which might've helped. However, it was still a very good piece.
(SPOILER)Phil: You are the only pattern maker in the top 3. Your piece was well made and wasn't just a bunch of lines. You thought it out well and it was easily translated. The colors may have been the only problem, because the orange doesn't seem to go very well with the gray, but it is still very good. You took a chance by giving your partner a risky pattern, which was appreciated by the judges. You thought this through, and it's apparent. Your design was edgy and creative, which set it apart from the other designs.
(SPOILER)41-inches-wide: You took a risk, and your piece was outstanding. It looks odd, in a way, but the overall quality of it is very good. You made very intelligent choices (such as the under shirt that was plain) and the fact that you didn't just make a dress and simply draw the pattern on was a very good idea. You were the only one to make a jacket, which suited your pattern. One may say the only critique is the scarf: it goes a bit too over the top, but it was a nice touch. Overall, you did excellent.
(SPOILER)Phil, you're not the winner, but you are accepted. Congratulations for making it to the next round.
So it brings it down to you two: (SPOILER)ValkyrieWing and 41-inches-wide...
...
...
(SPOILER)ValkyrieWing, you're not the winner for this week, but you are accepted and thus you move onto the next challenge. (SPOILER)Congratulations on being in the top 3 two weeks in a row and for making to the fifth challenge.
This only leaves you, (SPOILER)41-inches-wide, which means you're the winner for this challenge. Congratulations on getting immunity for next week and getting the first pick on the first challenge (you'll learn more about this later).
I would just like to say the difference between #1 and #2 were very close... They were only separated by 0.1 points! Here are the overall rankings:
(SPOILER)1. 41-inches-wide- 9.3
2. ValkyrieWing- 9.2
3. Phil- 7.8
4. Mum- 7.7
5. Nominus Experse- 7
6. Zeromus_X- 6.8
7. Clone#01- 5.7
Congratulations on all of you for making it to the next round! I'll post the next challenge in a bit.
(SPOILER):crying2: I've Never Won Anything In My Life Before!
Congratulations to Zeromus_X and Mum (was that a serious manipulation of pastels I saw! OMG! I have to watch out for your pieces!) because they made a great team on challenge#4! And to these winners Valkyriewing and Phil! You guys are nothing short of a morsel of fantastic, considering one did all the work herself and the other has never disappointed with his pieces (be it for this challenge or in his other works)!
EDIT: Yay! **
sorry i took so long to post, should i bother giving me review so late?
No, Clone#01, because I already guest judge'd for the two spots that needed the score. Sorry.
ok,sorry about that,i was just kinda busy.
Congratulations to 41IW and the runner ups!
I'm really enjoying this!
I have decided to start putting the rules in new posts, because the hassle of going to the first post for everything is getting a bit ridiculous, and now that I look back on it, if they archive this thread people won't know what each challenge was about because I keep on having to take it down for the next set of rules. So, I'll just start posting them in a new post. Be sure to keep your eyes open for them!
Challenge 5: "These Sins Can't Get Any More Deadlier"
Draw the seven sins into people (male or female, it doesn't matter). Color is highly recommended. You will pick a sin to draw from this list:
Greed
Lust
Gluttony
Pride
Envy
Sloth
Anger
Because two people may not do the same sins, the order (or priority) in which the sins are chosen will be decided by how you ranked last challenge.
1. 41-inches-wide
2. ValkyrieWing
3. Phil
4. Mum
5. Nominus Experse
6. Zeromus_X
7. Clone#01
-Please post which sin you want, do not PM me them.
-Be sure to look through the posts before you post which sin you want just in case someone higher than you already picked it.
-If you notice someone has a sin that you want, and you are higher ranking than them, you may choose it and they will have to pick another one.
-You do not have to wait until the people who ranked above you has chosen what they want; you may choose one sin that you want to draw, but beware as it is subject to change if the people who are higher up want it
-This means that 41-inches-wide gets first priority, ValkyrieWing gets second, etc.
-Any sin that you have chosen and already posted is final.
-You may not change your mind and decide to do another one
To be sure everyone picks their topics on time, if someone lower than you picks one and you do not respond within 24 hours as to which sin it may be, you do not get that sin, even if you request for it. I will be allowing people to pick for two days, and at the end of Friday (here) if you still not have chosen, I will pick one for you. The deadline will then be set when everyone has chosen.
If you want to explain your picture and show why you drew what you drew, you are free to give the judges an explanation when you send me your picture. This is not necessary, but if you draw something symbolic you think the judges may not understand, it would be wise to give an explanation.
Good luck, and be sure to ask questions if you have any.
Here are my choices, ranked so if someone bumps me:
- Lust
- Gluttony
- Anger
- Envy
- Pride
- Greed
- Sloth
Okay, lust.
But I will do this tastefully. Since I am a prude.
Shades...
Hmmmm...I think that greed intruiges me. :P
This means that lust and greed are now taken. There's still anger, envy, pride, sloth, and gluttony left.
I'll go with anger
damn i wanted greed, lol. ill take gluttony.
btw im going away today and will be back on saturday so sry if there is any inconveniance!
I'll take pride.
The list so far:
1. 41-inches-wide- lust
2. ValkyrieWing- greed
3. Phil- anger
4. Mum- pride
5. Nominus Experse- gluttony
6. Zeromus_X- envy
7. Clone#01- sloth
P.S. You may start on your piece, if you'd like. I have decided that the deadline will be September 29th, and I have decided to take off the time because it just screws up everything.
I guess I'll pick Envy.
Good luck, everybody!
*steals all the good luck*
I'm gonna need it.
VW WILL WIN, BECAUSE GREED > YOU GUYS SIN!
No really she will. JUST YOU WATCH. Have fun guys. If there was any contest I would have wanted to take it would have been this one. 'Cept I would have had greed. ^^;
Good luck (Yeah and Like, the only reason Pride is semi-okay is 'cause Pride thinks they don't need anything to be better which is incorrect~~)
*backs out slowly*
T_T
I wish you had stayed, Avarice...
Even though there's now new news today, I updated the top-artist Deviant Art with the second challenge's pictures.
http://top-artist.deviantart.com
I'll post the third challenge's pictures on there soon :D
just lettin you's no im back from my trip.and i take it i was forced to take sloth becoz f the order of rank.i dont fully uderstand sloth though but ill try.
Sloth - think really smurfing lazy.
It's when people completely and utterly opt not to do any mental, physical, and/or work.
oh right,ok,thanks nominus
Hey, Clone - to do this challenge absolutely perfectly, just don't do anything at all. At worst, submit a blank piece of paper, depicting that you're too lethargic to do any more than that!
I finally finished the first challenge's video. I hope you guys like it!
http://s103.photobucket.com/albums/m...rtistvideo.flv
The music is a bit cheezy and doesn't really fit in in some places, so be warned xD
I like this challenge - it's allowing me to be obsene.
ANGER - I won’t submit a painting and you can’t make me!
PRIDE - I’m so good I don’t have to submit an entry – I’d win anyway.
GLUTTONY - Are you kidding? I’m too full to pick up a paintbrush
ENVY - I’m not submitting a painting because mine wouldn’t be as good as the others and I can’t stand it.
SLOTH - I can’t even be bothered submitting a painting
GREED - I want all of the paintings, not just one!
LUST - I’m too busy to stop and paint…
I believe Mum is justifying a means to simply not turn anything in just in case something goes wrong or she simply doesn't wish to do one...
Clever, Mum
i had already thought of this and was going to make my none-picture a surprise, but it seems that it may be wasteful now.I am actualy quite busy now anyway and also not willing to do this round right now so it wud have been a perfect picture for me,but i doubt it wil take on any points now. :(
no im not quitting.its just im sick and kind of busy so just taking some what of a break wud have been easier.but nevermind about that anymore,i shud have my picture in by the deadline.
Wow, no one has turned in their entries yet. I usually get them a couple days after the challenge is posted. I hope this one wasn't too difficult...
I'm just experiencing the horror of artist's block. :P
I'll have it done soon. :)
For those of you who are new and who didn't get a customized EoFF's Top Artist sig (such as ValkyrieWing's), just tell me if you want one so I can ask Genji to make one :D
Commencing inking of GREED> :P
Don't worry Tan, this wasn't too hard - its just that we had a fortnight to do it and the pressure was off. I had my pic mapped out as to what to do the very next day. Then I got exceptionally busy and went away last weekend (when I get time to do any painting) and now I only have 2 nights left to do my painting! (Its still in base-coat form!) I had wanted it to be well executed, but now I'm just going to have to rush it in order to get it done and *sigh* oh well, I guess Nom will just say that I haven't done as much detail as was needed again... (Ouch) But it was a great idea for the 7 of us to do the 7 deadly sins and I am still enthused. Really looking forward to seeing all the entries, especially as there has been time to do really good drawings.
I have just found out that my inital drawing of greed dosen't fit the criteria, so I am drawing another one. I did something that wasn't a person, so I'll try something else.
EDIT: Aw, smurf it. I'm just gonna submit the one I did, and hope it flies. :) Besides, I'm stuck beyond measure.
I still haven't come up with anything on lust and I'm getting scared because I don't know why I can't think of anyyytthinggg...
Sorry tan I just logged on today I still can't figure out the winamp file extension situation and I still have the challenge 4 AVP, but there's a problem. if I upload the movie with a .dat extension, photobucket accepts it, but won't show anything except the title part. I can't make it .mpg or .wma because my software doesn't feature that kind of movie export. So sorry.
I'm proud to say that my fine pic on Pride is now coming along since I buckled down and got on with it (the diligent, wonderful person that I am) and I'm proud to say that it is a very fine pic indeed - INDEED I say!
Seriously, I will be able to finish it off tonight and will humbly submit it to you tomorrow Tan. I pray it doesn't come before a fall...
Hey 41" I agree - lust would seem to be the easy one with lots of lovely babes to draw, but in reality its actually quite hard to depict the actual sin. Good luck! Hint: Concentrate on the look in the eyes...and people aren't the only sexy things about we lust over - lust borders on greed really - wanting...
Both ValkyrieWing and Mum have turned in their entries, and I noticed one thing: both didn't have the embodiment of their sin as a person. I have decided that this will not be a judging point, and is no longer required. If any of you are working on a picture of the sin as a human, that's still fine, but if you want to embody it in any other way, it's fine.
I may have to explain mine when it is posted...? What do you think, Tan?
Sure, that's fine Mum.
Thank you so much for the inspiration, Mum! :3
Anyway, I'm not turning in Anime inspired that's for sure. I got criticized by a friend when I turned in a drawing in anime and he said it was hentai and not at all what is Lust.
*is releved*
COOL. :)
Looking forward to the entries!
Anime is just a Japanese loan word for animation, but outside of Japan it usually refers to the style of Japanese animation.
Hentai...uh...well, I'll let someone else handle that...:/
That's about right.
I got borderline pr0n. :3
o_O Now I'm curious. XP
I hope the five of you who are not complete finish! The deadline is in about 10 hours.
EDIT: I forgot to say, Nominus Experse has had surgery (I believe...) and he is a bit woozy and incapacitated. Therefore, he needs an extension. I have decided to give all of you who need it a two-day extension. I would like them in ASAP, however.
WOW...I hope Nominus' OK. :O
I'm just going to post the first two entries because I want as much judging done step by step.
1. Mum
Sin: Pride
http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...st-Resized.jpg
2. ValkyrieWing
Sin: Greed
http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...5/avarace2.jpg
3. Zeromus-X
Sin: Envy
http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i1...mus_X/scan.jpg
I only have 3 out of 7 of the entries... I know Nominus is 1/3 of the way done and 41-inches-wide mentioned earlier that she was on the verge of getting done. I do not want this extension to be another opportunity for you to sort of slack off... Please take full advantage of it. If you're stuck, I am here to advise you. Just please get it done quickly.
P.S. The fact of life is that most of us have lives outside of the Internet. I realize that. Therefore, I'm going to ask any of you who need to quit for whatever reason to do so now. You don't have to give a reason, because in all truth, it does not matter. Notify me if you're quitting so I'm not sending you a billion PMs as to where your entry is, also =P
I guess I'll add this to my work:
Quote:
Well, this definitely isn't my best work, but I hope it conveys Envy well enough. Green is obviously for 'green with envy' (and an excuse to use my favorite color), and I put a bunch of things to 'envy' down below him. I put clouds over the faces of the people below to symbolize how envy can start to cloud the way you view people, all caught up in envy and what-not (but I do like putting random things in pictures besides).
Explanation time!
Also, great work so far! Best of luck to everyone!Quote:
To represent greed, I chose the image of a red dragon and his hoard. I chose this for the simple fact that dragons are quite possibly the most beautiful, deadly...and GREEDY creatures in literature or games. There has rarely been a dragon that was not wallowing in treasure. Smaug, the Nidhogg Serpent...greed drove them to evil, and to their ultimate demise.
The dragons' face holds an expression of threat and disdain. He's sneering, clutching a human skull, offering death to any who dares to claim HIS treasure. To me, this is the ultimate representation of greed.
sorry everyone,i havnt got a chance to draw anything matching the quality of these pics!i just dont have time anymore!i hate dropping out of things but my schedule is just too busy!ive been really run down lately!if u want me to i can do a stick man because thats how lazy a sloth wud be to draw something but anything i draw now i probably wouldnt make it to the next round anyway!
Again, sorry for dropping out,i hate to do it!!!
There will be no elimination for this challenge, since Clone#01 dropped out. It is not necessary if you turn in your entry by tomorrow, unless you want the chance to win (because you can't win if you don't submit anything.) If you do not turn anything in by tomorrow you will simply be passed on technicality.
It's getting to the point that whoever dosen't drop out wins. :)
Noest time, we need rules stating commitment, no matter what
I'm sorry but i don't i'll be able to pass my piece on lust on time. And even if i would ask for an extention i still don't think i'll be able to complete it. I cant offer any excuses as to why i can't finish the piece but i am deeply sorry that up until now the unfinished sketch is still in my sketchpad. Thank you and i'm sorry tan.
41-inches-wide, you have immunity from last challenge. You don't need to turn in a piece. Besides, clone#01 is already erased for dropping out, so it's not necessary that you have to turn one in.
EDIT: I guess that's all the entries I'll be getting for this challenge. One judge has not completed their reviews yet, so those of you who have not finished (Phil and Nominus Experse), you can still turn yours in, if you wish. And, by the way Phil, I'd like to talk to you. Please PM me ASAP...
The reviews are in from 3 of the 4 judges. Before I post them, let me introduce them:
Carny, a very skilled artist who often hangs out in #eoff.
Agent Proto, a former contestant.
Lackshmana, who is the only judge who hasn't turned their reviews in.
And the guest judge was... me! I decided to be it this week because I would be the only judge among the other three familiar with your styles, therefore having more insight in your pictures.
1. Mum
Sin: Pride
Carny- "The use of a blind fold over the Eagles eyes is a good indication as to how America is actually blind to the true reasons of the war in Iraq. It seems to be saying that they are using the pride of the nation to be fighting an unjust war and getting rewarded for it. I could rant on for hous about this, but I won't."
Agent Proto- "This is a very beautiful piece of art. I really enjoy the details that you included from the smoke of fire down to the feathers of the blindfolded bald eagle. However, I must say that this art doesn't suit the sin of pride. If I'm wrong, I do believe that the sin of pride is defined as "Arrogant or disdainful conduct or treatment; haughtiness." I feel that this art features none of that, and that is going to lower your score a bit. I do not believe pride for your country equals to haughty pride for one's self. Nonetheless, this is a very great artwork."
Mine- First off, Mum, I'd like to tell you that I am extremely amazed at how you always turn your entries in early, yet they look so good and sort of seem as though you did them for months on end. I'm not accusing you , however, I'm just commending you on the kind of work you do in this sort of time frame =P
I think the picture is very well-drawn (as your style always is) and I really like the colors you used and how you paid attention to detail. This is ultimately your stlye, and it is very mature. You've been sort of lacking in these last challenges dealing with more of the modern young sort of drawing (I mean no offense saying that, by the way), but in this challenge, you nailed it.
The symbolism is genius. When I thought of pride, I never thought of America, but you conveyed the sin very well. However, it seemed a bit too subtle to me. If the flag had not been there, I would've understood what you were going for in your picture perfectly and would've scored you higher. You put a lot of thought into this challenge that it amazes me. It's extremely good.
2. ValkyrieWing
Sin: Greed
Carny- "Not sure what they are trying to represent with this piece of work. Are they implying that the dragon is greedy or that the person who is going to slay the dragon is greedy as they are after it's wealth in gold. It's a nice peice for any folklore fan, the proportions are a little out but other than that it is reletivly good. If only it would have depicted exactly who was the greedy party in the picture I would have given it a higher mark."
Agent Proto- "Very nice. I like the usage of color in this. The red dragon representing greed is a greaqt idea. This artwork clearly represents that and shows it off with a greedy dragon protecting his wealth of gold. The detail is very good Sadly, I don't have much to say for your work, but I will say it did represent the sin of greed well."
Mine- I remember telling you about this whole dragon thing- it's not something I believe really fits in with greed. It really did not make sense to me. I see dragons all the time and don't suddenly envision them as being greedy. Your thought process in this was well-thought, but, overall, it seemed not to be very cohesive in the end. I mean, yes, I get the whole gold thing, but you could put any sort of monster on top of gold and say it was greedy. There's just not much thought into it.
I do believe, however, that your saving factor in this is that you did it very well. It may not have been the right idea to convey, yes, but you drew it really well. I like the variety of color and the meticulousness of your work. The scales on the dragon look like it took you forever, which is something that I think looks good. I don't like the shiny kind of color, though, because it just stands out too much. Yes, it's gold, but it might've been better just to keep it sort of toned down by not adding that.
Overall, I find your piece strong in the execution area, but lacking in symbolicism.
EDIT: I read your description of your piece and I sort of understand what you were going for. I did not notice the skull, which is a very nice touch to it. I finally see what you were going for- not as symbolic and thought-provoking as Mum's, but still, very good.
3. Zeromus-X
Sin: Envy
Carny- I'm probably not the best to review this picture as I am colour blind with red and green. So I am very happy to have gotten a brief description from the artist. I like the fact they used green in the picture, because like the artist says, it is immediately thuought of to be envy. The one thing I didn't like was the people below. Even though the artist said that they are covered with clouds as to depict a clouded point of veiw, it doesn't really come across as such. Could be to do with the detail in them caused by the time frame given, but either way it just doesn't fit for me.
Agent Proto- "It's a nice piece of art. However, it would help if you included more color, or had more details with what's going on down on the bottom of the drawing. From your explanations, I do believe that is an envious crowd, jealous of the magician in the center. Maybe I'm wrong, but it's very hard to interpret, even with the explanations. From what I believe, the sin of envy is defined as "Jealousy and dislike felt toward another because they have a position, possession or quality one desires." However, I fail to see any sort of jealousy in this work, and because of that, it will lower your score a bit."
Mine- Your style is very light, very soft in colors and drawing. This is something I wished you would've strayed from in this picture, because I believe envy is a very strong emotion. There is a lot of blank space in this picture (unless there's something wrong with my browser) on the top. Maybe something could've been done about this? It looks rushed, in some aspects.
The cape and clothes are very well done, and I like the sort of way that you made this out to be a real person.
Basically, I believe your thought was in this piece looked like it was getting there, but it seemed to need more time. As for your drawing: it looks like your style, and I think your style does sort of look like a "cleanly rush." (if that makes sense) I do like your style, and I do like the colors you use, but this piece looks unfinished. You could've done so much more with two days.
EDIT: I liked your description of how you used green, but it was not a theme prevalent throughout your entry, and I would've rather to seen more green. The clouds were a good idea, and I liked your thought behind them.
And so... onto the scores.
However... I will not be posting the scores. Not now, at least. I am going to give you 24 artists for a rebuttle to what the judges said. Why? So you can tell us what you were really aiming for, and possibly change your score. Be sure your description makes sense though; they may even lower your score if your response to their reviews doesn't make sense. If you do not want to give a rebuttle, simply post saying that you do not want to.
I'll post the other reviews and scores tomorrow. Remember, for those of you who have not turned them in, you still have one day!
Paintings like this are supposed to be challenging and thought provoking, and for the viewer to make up their own minds on what its all supposed to mean. The 3 judges have all gleaned something from it, so thats good.
However, my explanation is that I wasn't actually aiming it towards having a dig at the war, beacuse thats not a pride issue I feel. Nor was it a slur on being proud of your country.
In a nutshell:
Its that blind patriotism is a form of pride.
I have entitled the painting "At what cost?" and it depicts winning being ultimate, despite what it may cost.
Pride is the opposite of humility, where you are encouraged to always put others ahead of and above ones self. The symbolism of the eagle is not humble.
I'm glad you thought it was well executed - thank you. VW's was also very well executed, and good on you ZX with your watercolour(?) - it was especially clever that you showed the figure pointing to something 'off screen' that he wanted.
Hmmm... no rebuttles or any more entries then? I'll announce the winner then.
Mum, your piece was deep and profound. On top of that, you drew it really well.
ValkyrieWing, you drew this very well, and where you were headed with it was really good.
Zeromus_X, the judges like your style, and you did put thought into this.
The winner is... (SPOILER) Mum. Congratulations. You have immunity for next challenge.
ValkyrieWing and Zeromus_X, you two are accepted and move onto the next challenge as well. Congratulations.
Average Scores and Ranks-
1. Mum- 8, winner
2. ValkyrieWing- 7.3
3. Zeromus-X- 5.2
4. Phil- passed by technicality
4. Nominus Experse- passed by technicality
4. 41-inches-wide- passed by technicality
7. clone#01- dropped out, erased
The next challenge will be posted in a bit. I'll give you a hint as to what it's about: (SPOILER) imagination.
See you in a bit.
Yeah, I kinda do that with my pictures. xD
But anyway, the dude in the picture is Envy, not the people down below. Sorry if I confused anyone.
Ok, I can accept that. I would have posted a rebuttal, but I had to work. :)
The competition is down to the best 6. We started with 12, and now there are only half of you. We still have 4 originals (ValkyrieWing, Mum, Nominus Experse, and Zeromus-X) while the rest of you are substitutes (41-inches-wide and Phil). Anyway, I just wanted to recount because it sounds interesting. Here are the rules of this challenge!
Challenge 6: RSL's House of Imaginary Friends
This challenge, you will have to draw an imaginary friend. However, it won't be that simple (it never is, is it? xD).
You will have to draw what you think one of your fellow contestants' (*shock*) imaginary friends would look like if they had one. There will only be one artist's imaginary friend per artist, meaning that only one person may draw Nominus Experse's imaginary friend, only one person may draw Mum's imaginary friend, etc. You do not need to choose the person who choose you (i.e. if Zeromus-X chose ValkyrieWing, she doesn't need to choose him).
There will be no order for choosing this challenge, it's basically first come first serve. You may not do your own imaginary friend.
In the case that someone drops out, it will not affect the competition, there will just be one less drawing. So, for example, if ValkyrieWing dropped out, this does not mean the person who decided to draw hers will quit.
You may help the person who you decided to choose, but do not spoon-feed them what you want it to look like (it is a competition, after all). This is not a partner challenge, so do not help them along the way.
Judging points for this challenge: originality, color, and how well the imaginary friend goes with the person you chose. You may give an explanation as to why you think the imaginary friend you drew fits the person you chose, but it is not necessary.
The deadline will be Friday, October 13th.
So, have fun with this challenge, and be creative!
P.S. There is no real reason why the title has RSL's name... I just wanted to put a respected member's name in the title. He will be the guest judge for this challenge, however.
I want to do ValkryieWing's friend, if she has no qualms with such a thing.
Okay then, this leaves Phil, 41-inches-wide, Nominus Experse, Zeromus-X, and Mum to choose from.
I would want to do Zeromus_X's if you please.
I want to do Nominus. :) I respect him as an artist, and he's an awesome person.
EDIT: AWESOME! Nominus and I chose each other. :D
That leaves Phil, 41-inches-wide, and Mum.
Nominus Experse- ValkyrieWing
41-inches-wide- Zeromus-X
ValkyrieWing- Nominus Experse
This ought to be interesting due to the fact that this challenge basically shows what other people think of eachother's psyche and other various characteristics.
*is already doodling*
:D
Where are Phil, Mum, and Zeromus-X, and why haven't they checked this thread!? o_O
They're all in my closet tied to various machines of... joy.
is it too late to join in?
Not unless someone else drops out and gives you their position.
Ok, ok - I'm here!
I'll choose 41 please.
As I am not on-line a lot, the person who chooses to do my friend has my permission to ask Daniel (Loony_BoB) what I'm like... (Oh boy, THAT should be interesting!)
Alternatively, they can email me at work on judith.de'ath@apn.co.nz
OR
..just use their imagination!
They talked about the competition in the EoFF Post :D
http://eoffpost.akusui.net/readartic...?article_id=65
Anyway, here's the list of who's drawing who's imaginary friend so far:
Nominus Experse- ValkyrieWing
41-inches-wide- Zeromus-X
ValkyrieWing- Nominus Experse
Mum- 41-inches-wide
This means that Zeromus-X must do Phil and Phil must do Mum because Phil can't draw the one for himself (it's against the rules). However, these two people will be erased if they do not notify me in about two days' time that they are aware of this competition. I am doing this because if they aren't aware of it for a longer time, they'll have a shorter time to do it, therefore they'll most likely just drop out because they won't have enough time to finish it.
So, good luck, and I hope you're all working hard :D
EDIT: I have decided to give anyone who wants to compete a chance to. If you're not already competing in the competition (and haven't yet) then you may try out for it by sending me an entry of this challenge. However, you will be drawing your own imaginary friend. The deadline for anyone who does this is by next Wednesday.
Here's how things will work:
Either A- someone will drop out and then we will decide who gets that spot out of whoever turns in an entry
or
B- no one drops out, and then the scores from the people who want to join's entries will be mixed in with the original contestants', so only the top 5 will be accepted. This sounds confusing, I know, so here's an example of how it will work:
Say 5 people turn in entries to join in. The judges then review them and rate them. The scores are then averaged.
Person A- 7.5
Person B- 7
Person C- 6.5
Person D- 6
Person E- 5.5
Then, let's say the contestants now got these scores (this is just an example!):
ValkyrieWing- 9
Nominus Experse- 5
Mum- 9.5
41-inches-wide- 8.5
Zeromus-X- 7
Phil- 8
The people who tried out's scores will be mixed in with the contestant's scores.
1. Mum- 9.5
2. ValkyrieWing- 9
3. 41-inches-wide- 8.5
4. Phil- 8
5. Person A- 7.5
Thus after this point, anyone who got a lower score is eliminated, or in the case of the would-be contestants, not accepted
7. Person B- 7
7. Zeromus-X- 7
9. Person C- 6.5
10. Person D- 6
11. Person E- 5.5
12. Nominus Experse- 5
Again, this is just an example!
This raises the stakes for you contestants, because it means that if you do not do well, you may be replaced, even after going this far. So, anyone who would like to join, be sure to draw your own imaginary friend and send it into me by next Wednesday (the deadline is shorter because your assignment is easier than the other contestants).
A NOTE TO THOSE WHO WISH TO JOIN:
1. Be sure you have about a month's time to do this competition, it will most likely last that long if you stay in it to the end
2. Be sure you're not too busy with anything else, or you may just drop out, which would cause many problems
That's basically it! So, good luck everyone, and be sure to draw the judges something good :D
Sorry I haven't checked it yet. :p Those machines are pretty tricky! xD
Anyway, I suppose I'll attempt Mum's imaginary friend. But I do have a question. Do we solely have to portray the person's imaginary friend only, or can we draw both people?
Edit: Nevermind. :p I'll have to Phil's then, it seems.
xD I like how you gave Nominus the lowest score. I know it's just an example! But I couldn't help noticing.
:D
I got a 5 because I suck
Woo hoo!
tan, you better not have fortune telling powers or anything...
And WHAT ARE YOU DOING OUT OF THE CLOSET? BACK TO THE MACHINES!
Wine is good....
I decided to start an elimination chart because I had nothing better to do (xD). It shows who won, who got the highest scores, who had the lowest scores, who was erased, and who dropped out. It also says what the challenge was about and who judged it. It's still missing three rows because there are still 3 challenges left (which I will be filling in as we go along). If anything is inaccurate in the chart, please just inform me.
P.S. I have noticed a lot of interesting events around here that I've taken interest in, and I want some of you to take note in them because I think you'd be interested in them too.
FFX Character Costume Design Competition- This is a really interesting competition that is sort of like the 4th challenge we did, except with clothes for FFX. Please vote in this competition because I don't want people who worked really hard on their pieces to not be recognized for it just because people didn't vote. If they were still accepting contestants, I'd advertise you to join (if you had free time and liked drawing FFX characters and whatnot) but they're not :(
To The Moon!- I think many of you have seen this in the Artist's Forum, and I really want it to succeed. There's just one big problem: it needs 120 people to join in! Therefore, I know many of you have really good art, so why not put an imprint of your art by turning it into a block and submitting it? :D
*done with shameless advertising for other events =P*
P.S. I have decided to retire Phil since he has not been paying attention to this thread and did not turn in anything (or even notify me) last challenge. This means that the people who would like to join will be fighting for that open spot.
EDIT: One last thing: I finished the second challenge's video :D
http://s103.photobucket.com/albums/m...enge2_0002.flv
I hope you guys like it!
EDIT (again =P): I have the first entry for a person who wants to be a contestant! :D
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ompetition.jpg
(EDIT: They wanted to replace their old entry, because they did not like it. I hope none of you are angry that I'm letting him do this, but I've done it before with others of you in private, so I see no reason why he can't do it either. Plus, tomorrow is the due date, so he's not technically breaking any rules.)
I've decided that because Phil dropped out, it will now be up to the contestants to choose who they want to be filling in for this extra spot. It would've gone the long-winded way (where we judge all of them, and who ever is ranked below 5 is eliminated, etc.) but because a spot is open, we'll just do it like this. After the contestants choose who they want to take this spot, this person's entry will be judged with the rest of the contestants' entries for this challenge, and we will decide who's accepted and who's erased from there. This does have its flaws, however, because even if the person who gets chosen by the contestants gets the spot, they may end up getting eliminated anyway. So, meh. I believe the artists will choose who rightfully deserves the spot, rather than the weaker one, but one never knows o_O
Anyway, as I said before, the entries for those who wish to join are due Wednesday, and the entries must be a drawing of your own imaginary friend. So far, we only have one, so unless anyone else enters an entry for it, this person will be the new contestant.
I will have Nominus' done soon. :)
no Phil...Sob...that means I don't get an imaginary friend! BOO HOO HOO HOO HOO HOO HOO!
I updated the Top Artist DeviantArt to the most recent challenge.
http://top-artist.deviantart.com/
Ok - I have submitted my entry, an I'm sure that 41_inches_wide will love her imaginary friend!
Good luck everyone.
Yes, mum is right I will love my imaginary friend! (even if I have no idea what it is)
and Zeromus's little friend will be done uhhhhhhh ..... soon
So...who would I draw for now that Phil is gone? :cat:
Well, I guess you could do Mum, Zeromus-X, unless you've gotten really far in your entry of Phil's already. It's up to you.
EDIT: Because no one else turned in an entry to join, Omecle is our newest contestant. Congratulations. His piece will be judged with the rest of yours and whoever has the lowest score will be erased.
You all have two more days to finish this challenge, so I hope you finish it soon :D
EDIT (again): I finished the third challenge's video. The music doesn't fit very well, but meh.
http://s103.photobucket.com/albums/m...enge3_0001.flv
Due FRIDAY, right?
Yes, the thirteenth.
EDIT: This is the last day and I'm expecting all entries in! There's about 10 more hours until it's 12 AM here, so that's how much time you have to turn them in!
I finished the fourth challenge's video, and I really like this one. I hope you like it!
http://s103.photobucket.com/albums/m...enge4Video.flv
Submit! :3
Glad to see this thing going strong..
Entry submitted. :P
This only leaves Nominus Experse to turn in his! Let's all stare at him until he submits his xD
Anyway, thank you guys for turning the entries in. I was worried that this would flop considering I had only 3 before I got the other 2 from ValkyrieWing and Zeromus_X.
1. Omecle- imaginary friend for self (he was a replacement)
http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...ompetition.jpg
2. Mum- 41-inches-wide's imaginary friend

5. Zeromus_X- Mum's imaginary friend

I'll get the reviews and scores to you once they've been sent in!
I just want to note that my scanner...'took off' some sections of my piece, so that's why there are awkward blank areas on the image. Sorry.
DOGGIE! :3 <3 <3 <3
Eeeee~!
NOMINUS! WHERE ARE YOU??????????? T_T
I regret to inform all of you that Nominus Experse has pulled out of this contest due to various reasons. This means that there will be no elimination this challenge.
:(
I am sad.
I am sorry to all of you - it was an enjoyable trip.
I have pulled out, regretably on the very day that this challenge is due, for various reasons, most notably of which is life and the lack of time life sometimes creates.
I work two jobs now, which means that I work at least 14 hours a day now. To juggle that and life, and the precious time I have with my girlfriend, I just can't create a competition worthy piece of artwork - it's too much.
I hope to appear as a judge at some point, seeing as I have taken classes in Art History, Critique, etc. Either that, or I will simply poke my head in hear and give my comments and/or critiques of the various entries.
Best of luck to all of you, and I again regret having to leave this competition.
Nominus Experse
You have good reasons, so I understand.
Best of luck to you, Nom. :)
Okay, I've got 3/4 of the reviews, and the last one should be submitted to me in a bit.
I'm a bit undecided on what next challenge should be, but I think I've got a general idea of what it'll be. The next challenge will involve (SPOILER)fear.
One contestant down, too sad for words...
All life's luck to you Nominus. :3
I just noticed my artwork is blurry, but the piece in my desktop isn't. Is it just me or what?
It's sort of blurry to me, but it looks exactly like the one you sent me o_o
EDIT: I've got the scores! I'll post the reviews then post who wins after I average the scores.
Before I post them, I'd like to introduce the judges:
I judged because I knew what I was looking for in the entries, and judging them would be fun :)
Psychotic, the very honorable CK
Rocket Edge, who has judged several times before
And lastly, our honorable guest judge, RSL, a very creative and respected man here at EoFF
1. Omecle
Mine- This piece is definitely better than the other piece you sent in. In all honesty, I really like this one. It has energy and it's very fresh. The colors and the style of drawing you used for this piece definitely made it stand out.
The creativity in this piece is not overwhelming, because it seems like you took your own self-image and turned it into an imaginary friend. However, this itself is sort of creative because as kids we sort of imagine ourselves up into interesting creatures and this is sort of your manifestation.
I really like how you gave this imaginary friend emotion and made him "the cool guy," because that gives insight to kind of how you are as a person and what your personality is. This whole piece has personality, which is definitely good.
Red is a primary color in this piece, and this definitely made it stand out. Execution is a big part in this challenge as well, and I believe you pulled this piece off very well. It's not a very professional sort of look, but that might've made it look too serious, so the style you used for it is perfect.
It's very human, just in this sort of creature-like state, and the tail it has sort of adds to the illusion of it being a creature, because if it didn't have that tail I'd probably just think it was a human with red fur or something.
The more I look at it, the more I like it, because it looks like nothing I've seen before and the overall style of it looks great.
As I said earlier, this piece is basically very fresh, the colors and how you did this piece was interesting, and it was my favorite from this challenge.
Psychotic- "Omecle- imaginary friend for self
There is a lot of creativity here. Omecle's imaginary friend appears to be comprised of a human, a lion, and possibly a fox (the tails remind me of the Pokemon Vulpix's)
From what I could tell, the friend's hands are to show different sides of Omecle's personality. The hand clenched in a fist to show that he can be strong, and the hand in the pocket to highlight his more casual side.
The colours and the outlines on this piece are bold, striking and eye-catching. What I'm not too sure about is the key-chain of the lion. I can't really tell what it signifies, and also the position it is in. It is flying out to the side, as if in motion, whereas the imaginary friend appears to be stationary. The plain white background is a bit too bright, and a paler colour would look better."
Rocket Edge- "Entry #1 - Omecle
The Bad: The linework could be cleaner, as it looks a bit scratchy..
The Good: The Pose, & the expression on the character's face is great. There's also originality about it that i like, which is the idea of it having no top on, and it sort of looks like a character that's made up out of the head.
Personal Comment: I like the idea of the chain on his trousers. Good work."
RSL- "It's a furry. That's kind of scary."
2. Mum
Mine-I'm sorry, Mum, but I'm going to be rather harsh in this review because a big part of this challenge was creativity.
Where do I begin? Well, first off, a dog is not creative. I think you somehow mixed up the conception of best friend and imaginary friend. This piece is bland. A dog is not an imaginary friend, and if 41-inches-wide wanted a dog, she wouldn't imagine it, she'd just go out and buy one.
Secondly, a dog doesn't tell much about a person's personality as much as an imaginary friend does, and each imaginary friend has their own personality to them that reflects on who imagined the imaginary friend. But a dog doesn't show anything about someone's personality. Anyone could have a dog and it wouldn't reflect on their personality.
Thirdly, this piece is honestly bland. It's like, I've seen a dog drawn millions of times, and this here is nothing original. As I said before, creativity was a big part in this challenge and you failed that part. I'm honestly underwhelmed with this piece.
However, the execution in this piece is excellent, and it was your only saving factor. If someone else drew just a dog and did it poorly, I would've given them a 1, honestly. We know you have a very professional style, but next challenge, try and break out of that style and do something creative and fun. Each week your piece is very serious and it would've been interesting if you had pulled off something that was a bit wacky because that is what we were looking for.
If you had mixed creativity with your level of skill as an artist, this piece would've been great, and I know your style is very classical, but we're looking for range in this competition, and you're sort of playing it really safe with this piece.
(I do not mean to hurt your feelings in this review, so please do not be upset.)
Psychotic- "Mum- 41-inches-wide's imaginary friend
An imaginary friend could be an extremely exotic and fantastic creature, although this one is just a scruffy little dog, which compared to the others is slightly lacking in creativity.
This image, to me, shows loyalty and friendliness. I imagine the dog to be looking up at its owner and with that one look is saying "I'll always be there." I can't claim to know 41-inches-wide extremely well, but I looked over some of her posts and she does seem to be a loyal person, so her personality is reflected well.
As for the presentation, the dog looks absolutely fantastic and I especially like its nose. The background is mellow, and does not draw attention away from the main focus of the piece."
Rocket Edge- "Entry #2 - Mum
The Bad: Nothing really..
The Good: It's obvious that it's an impressive drawing. The expression of innocence on the dog's face is great, and is really well captured. What is the best thing about this however is how you used the chalk in this piece.
Personal Comment: Brilliant use of white's, and i love the area around the eye in particular. Great piece."
RSL- "Very well done. That is such an adorable dog."
3. 41-inches-wide
Mine- Your entry is somewhat unfocused. It's nice to see the imaginary friend with Zeromus_X, but it's not really the main focus when it should be.
The imaginary friend you drew is very creative, and I liked the sort of cat theme you used for it, because (as we all know) Zeromus_X is a huge cat person (he does post cats in just about all of his posts).
Its hair is very nice and has this shine to it, and I like the color you gave to it.
My only (main) critique is that you didn't show enough of this imaginary friend, so it's hard to really judge it, and it would've been nice if it was shown a bit more.
Psychotic- "41-inches-wide- Zeromus_X's imaginary friend
I'm going to work on the assumption that the guy in this piece is Zeromus_X, and the creature resting on his head is the imaginary friend. What's interesting is that this one shows how Zeromus_X would interact with his imaginary friend, and it seems he carries it around like a pet, which goes well with the cat-like nature.
From what I know of Zeromus_X, he really likes cats, and the cat-like White Mage costumes of Krile in FFV, and this friend certainly does just that. The picture seems to have a calm and playful feel to it, and I think that reflects Zeromus_X well.
I can assume that the idea behind this was to create a cat-like creature in an anime-style, and 41-inches-wide has certainly achieved her aim. However, the task was to draw an imaginary friend, and the imaginary friend is not the main focus of the piece, and only takes up roughly a sixteenth of the picture. Also, I'm not entirely sure what the pouch that the friend is holding is supposed to represent."
Rocket Edge- "Entry #3 - 41-inches-wide
The Bad: The jumper and shoulder area could use more work. There also seems to be something missing from this piece, like a lack of action or activity (maybe because it's only a head shot)..
The Good: The simple approach, the idea of the kitten on top, and the eyes were drawn very nicely.
Personal comment: The simple approach is good stuff, and it work's well."
RSL-"I like this picture."
4. ValkyrieWing
Mine- This is one of your best pieces so far, ValkyrieWing. There's a great amount of detail in cloth she's sitting on, and her outfit is very well detailed, and just about everything is detailed, much more than normally (which is a good thing :D).
When I see this imaginary friend, I believe it would fit well with Nominus's personality because he told me he treasures women, and a woman is sort of perfect for this. It's sexy, it's mysterious, and it looks like something that would come from such a mind as Nominus's.
Her outfit is something I like more and more when I look at it because the sort of pattern on it looks great.
Again, you chose the right colors and everything works in this piece, and you put a lot of thought into it, so you really exceeded this challenge.
As always, there is bad that goes with good, and I think the only really bad thing here is the leg that is below the top leg looks sort of like it's growing out of that part, which is a bit odd, so that leg's kneecap should've been drawn a bit behind the other leg so as to show where it's coming from, but that might've made it look a bit unnatural, so it's not that bad.
Psychotic- "ValkyrieWing- Nominus Experse's imaginary friend
I think the winged devil in chains theme is something of a cliché these days and I don't think this piece adds anything new or different to that.
This imaginary friend is dark, brooding and gothic, and that's exactly how Nominus Experse comes across to me. What really sets the mood is the background. The grey wall and the crimson fabric make me imagine that this is set in an exquisite gothic castle.
The execution of this idea is very good. I particularly like how her outfit matches her wings, like it too is a part of it. The colour scheme of crimson and black is used to great effect, especially because it makes her blue eyes stand out, giving her a piercing stare. The only thing I can fault is her right leg underneath the knee and above the boot, because it looks swollen."
Rocket Edge- "Entry #4 - ValkyrieWing
The Bad: The legs seem a little off..
The Good: Alot of things about this piece work, the brilliant burst of colour, the expression of stillness & beauty of the figure, and the eyes that glare at you. But what really makes this drawing great is that you obviously researched Nominus Experse's character to produce the drawing you did.
Personal Comment: Cool work, and you have a great imagination."
RSL- "This is a very interesting picture. I like the colors"
5. Zeromus_X
Mine- Your style is doing watercolor, and I understand that, but really light colors don't really suit this imaginary friend and maybe if you had used darker colors it would've looked better.
I do like your idea in this piece, but since none of us particularly know Mum that well, it's hard to judge whether this would really be her imaginary friend. I think warrior imaginary friends are for sort of damsels in distress, and I guess Mum can be qualified as that.
There are some anatomy problems in this piece and one part I find particulary troubling is the sort of skirt he's wearing, because the he looks 3-dimensional, but that skirt looks very flat and unbelieving.
More colors would've been definitely nice, and I think that you were heading in that right place with this one, but in some ways, the execution sort of falls short.
The background is also a distraction, and those colors don't really add to the piece, so if you would've left it blank, it might've looked dry in a sense, so I guess those colors are a good idea because they sort of fit in with this piece, but they really shouldn't be there. Maybe a realy background would've worked better.
Psychotic- "Zeromus_X- Mum's imaginary friend
I think this image is creative. The imaginary friend seems to be a knight, who would not look out of place in a medieval setting, or indeed in some of the Final Fantasy games. He does remind me a lot of Cyan from FFVI.
The knight automatically invokes a feeling of strength, especially because his eyes are focused on his spear. However, there is also a carefree element to him, as seen by both his ponytail and the ribbon on his spear blowing in the wind. Another thing I noticed is that the colour of his armour is relatively light, whereas you might expect a knight in combat to have darker and angrier colours, which suggests that he is good. From what I've seen of her, Mum does indeed seem to be a strong, carefree and good person, so Zeromus_X has captured her well.
I like the background of this piece. It really invokes a feeling of fantasy, and the knight could be walking right out of Mum's imagination. However, I'm not too sure about the angle of his spear holding arm. Spears are obviously heavy, and I don't know if you've tried to carry something heavy with your arm out like that, but it is not easy. Also, I'm not entirely sure that his torso should be facing in that direction, as it is away from where his head, legs and arms are facing."
Rocket Edge- "Entry #5 - Zeromus_X
The Bad: Anatomy problems. Lack of depth to the piece, the colours could have been stronger & sharper in places to bring it more to life. The colours in alot of places look out of place.
The Good: The idea is a good one, it shows you used your imagination, and the idea of using watercolours is differant and nice to see.
Personal Comment: I like the idea of using watercolours as your chosen media, and there's something about his expression that i like.."
RSL- "This is a neat picture. A little too much red maybe."
I'll be back with the scores and announce who the winner is soon!
EDIT: ANNOUNCEMENT
I have decided that because next challenge is rather boring and should be skipped, I'm going to eliminate one more person this challenge, meaning that there will be a double elimination. I know I said earlier that there would be no elimination, but because some of you have become so confident in simply passing to the next challenge because someone drops out, this will shake you up a bit. The next challenge will be the second-to-last challenge in which 4 of you will vie for the top 3 spots, and the final challenge involves 3 of you and requires you to draw 6 pieces to represent your overall style, but I'll talk more about that when we get there.
So, when I announce the scores, one of you will be the winner, and one of you will erased.
It's a shame Nominus Experse had to leave, he's extremely good! =(
As you know in the artistic world, one day you're accepted, and the next day, you're erased (that never gets any less cheesy, does it? xD).
Omecle, you did a very good job and your piece was very imaginative and fresh.
Mum, even though I personally thought your piece was not creative enough, you still did a very good job in executing it, as always.
41-inches-wide, your piece was definitely imaginative, but the judges wanted to see more of it. Your imaginary friend should've been the centerpiece of your entry; not Zeromus_X.
ValkryieWing, your piece was very well-executed and the colors you chose were great.
Zeromus_X, your entry had thought, but execution-wise, it fell a bit short.
(SPOILER)Omecle, you're accepted. Congratulations on making it to the final four.
And now for the winner of this challenge.
(SPOILER)ValkrieWing, congratulations, you're the winner of this challenge. You did a good job in both the thought process of your piece and the execution of it. Congratulations for making it to the final four. Unfortuately, you will not be given immunity, because that would automatically make you a part of the final three, and the next challenge is big, so immunity will not be given. Your piece will however be featured in the Top Artist Deviant Art profile.
(SPOILER) Mum, 41-inches-wide, and Zeromus_X, one of you will be erased.
...
*dramatic music*
(SPOILER)Mum, you're accepted. However, the judges want to see more creativity out of you, no matter how well you execute a piece. Remember that for the next challenge. Congratulations on making it to the final four.
...
41-inches-wide, (SPOILER)as said earlier, you did not show the judges enough of your imaginary friend. It was a very nice idea, but not making it the main focus of your piece was your downfall.
Zeromus_X, (SPOILER)your piece was heading in the right track, but execution-wise, it was not on par with the rest of the contestants' pieces.
...
(SPOILER)Zeromus_X, you're erased. Congratulations on making it this far.
This means that (SPOILER)41-inches-wide, you're accepted. Congratulations on making it to the final four.
(SPOILER)Ratings
1. ValkyrieWing- 8.25
2. Mum- 8
3. Omecle- 7.875
4. 41-inches-wide- 7.25
5. Zeromus_X- 6.25
There are now only 4 of you left. Next challenge will decide which 3 of you will be vying for the winning position of Top Artist. I'll post the rules and guidelines for the next challenge soon.
8O
Oh....thank you very much!!
This one's for you, Nominus! XD
Well that's cool, I feel a bit bad that I just jumped in at the last minute there. But it'll be fun to see the next challenge!
Yay for all of us! :3
I'm surprised I even made it that far. xD
Good luck to the rest of you. :) :cat:
I know I said I'd post this tomorrow, but I'm so excited for this challenge I'm posting it now.
Challenge 7: Cater to the public
This penultimate challenge will have the 4 of you pairing off into teams, and each team will be taking requests from people who want pictures to be drawn for them. These people will be wanting a specific drawing of what they’ve asked for. You will have to do 6 (3 each) of these requests. If there are too many requests, then you make pick and choose which ones you want to do. If there are not enough, I’ll just ask you random ones. The requirements for each of the requests must be added in the request itself.
For those of you wishing to request pictures:
If you wish to add a request yourself, please follow these guidelines:
-Your request must be specific (so no “draw me a thing” or “draw me a Naruto character”)
-Your request cannot be too hard for the team doing the picture. If you think that your request may be too difficult, PM me and I’ll decide on whether you may submit it. If I decide your request is too hard, I will tell the artists that they do not have to do your desired picture if they feel they will not have enough time to finish it.
-You must tell who you want drawing the picture. You may not direct a request to more than one team
-If there are already 3 requests, you may still ask for a picture to be drawn because it may still be picked
-Do not request for a picture that has already been done by an artist
-1 request per person, please
-The request must be simple, so this means you may not ask for anything too hard
-Anyone may submit requests except the permanent judges and the current contesants. Any former contestants are encouraged to request.
-Specify guidelines for your request and things you will be guest judging on
-No crude or obscene requests will be accepted
-If you do a request, you must guest judge (only the picture you asked for, though) for this challenge.
As to who will be on each team: ValkryieWing, last challenge's winner, will choose who she wants her teammate to be. Whoever is left will be paired up.
Some notes for being a team:
-Be sure to communicate so the 6 requests you do together look coherent. Get your partner's e-mail address or IM address so you two can talk about the challenge
-Your teammate is there to help you, so ask them for help if you're stuck
-Be sure one person is not doing more work than the other (even though each of you must do each, one person in the partnership may be telling the other what to do for each picture exactly the way they want it, which is how it shouldn't be).
The winning team in this challenge will have both teammates moving on to the final 3, and the losing team will have one person erased. The losing team will be interviewed to see which person should be erased.
I will be giving you 25 days for this challenge, but to be sure none of you procrastinate until the very last day, I will be asking for one entry each week or so, meaning that there'll be 25 days to do these 3, but each one will have a different due date.
There is no official deadline right now, but once the requests are taken, I will set it.
So, to start this off, we will have ValkryieWing choosing who she wants as a partner, then we will be taking requests.
EDIT: Oh, yes, I forgot. For each team, when they take the 6 requests, each partner can choose whichever 3 requests they want to do, so long as their partner agrees to the 3 requests they want to do.
EDIT (again): I also forgot that after the teams are chosen, each team must make up a name so when the people request, they will say the team name they want to do the request.
O_O
Oh, this is gonna be HARD....
I would like to work with 41-inches-wide, if at all possible. :)
Thank you so much Valkyriewing. Hope I can adjust to the 16-hour difference between your timezone and mine. :3
Wow, that's a lot of requests, all the more reason to ditch my crappy sketchpad! *buys a new one*
Goodluck to all of us.
Oh wow! What a challenge!
Firstly, I would like to thank ZX for the knight in shining armour that he sent to my emotional rescue - big strong arms, dark hair, dark eyes - mmm - sigh. It has been a pleasure working alongside you.
Secondly, yes, I admit that I have little imagination and my creativity is somewhat limited to good execution of a piece. However, I knew that 41 would love her imaginary friend!
Also remember that I have never played any computer games, especially FF or the like (I was quite good at space invaders when I was younger...?) so my pieces are not in the fantasy realm.
Lastly, I thought VW's was excellent - well executed (as always), very imaginative and extremely apt for Nom, so a triple whammy to clinch the deal! Congratulations and well done!
I now look forward to receiving special requests and working alongside Omecle. I love not knowing what I'm going to be drawing!
Well, I'll lead the way, and give the first request.
Mum's team: Draw me! :D There's a picture attached, and I want to be drawn with some kind of suit. I would like my whole body to be in the picture, looking straight ahead (with my body also facing straight ahead).
ValkyrieWing and 41-inches-wide: 0 requests
Mum and Omecle: 1 request (tan)
I will update this as we go along.
A Cat on a piano! for Omecle and Mum's team X3 gogogogo!
OK then.
ValkryieWing and 41-inches-wide: 0 requests
Mum and Omecle: 2 requests (tan, Lionx)
Tan, your pic is just not clear enough - got any more with a bit more light on the subject? I mean, you do want a good pic, don't you?
What...no requests for us yet...? We are unloved. :(
VW - Please draw Daniel (Loony-Bob) rowing a dinghy (rowboat) labourously round the globe back to NZ, with S/Kitten looking forlorn on the shores of the UK and all his friends waving him goodbye!
BTW - our team's name is Dionysus
