You should sell your characters.
LolRMTboughtmyaccount
Yeah who wants to see 3+years of work be bought by RMT. Screw that. Hope you two have a great time on Wow!
Side comment: Why is dumping your character and quitting FFXI in the accomplishment thread? ;/ What a downer for us people that still like to play.
BTW - Proto-Omega down and got Proto-Ultima down to 5% with 14 people on our first try ^_^ that was a super fun chaotic fight lol
I've been tempted to liquidate my assets and sell them, but I'd never sell my character. I don't want my name slandered. I really despise RMT anyway so I have no strong desire to sell my stuff and be a hypocrite considering how much I've protested RMT.
I still like you guys so I just thought I'd update. I like reading and seeing what you guys are up to. The FFXI and ex-FFXI people are their own little subculture here. I'm still interested in FFXIs development and the development of my friends here that play it though I personally don't wish to make the effort any more.
It's good to see that many of you are still enjoying yourselves. ^^
For the sake of being even remotely on topic, after much shuffling around and having started nearly 15 characters on various servers (Oh god... I'm Tsukasa!) I've settled down for the most part and picked 2 servers (both PvP). I've got some very neglected alliance chars on one server that my wife and I joined. My wife's HS best friend and her husband play on that server. However, my primary characters are on another server (Darrowmere) where we play horde and love it.
I mostly love Druid and Tauren make for the best Druids so that's my main (Feral Druid) as well as an Undead Shadow Priest and a Blood Elf Protection Paladin.
EDIT: I might post some pics later for the sake of spicing things up if the powers that be aren't totally in objection.
Go for it.
Eternalshiva~ limbus, especially omega/ultima, is probably just about my favorite thing to do in ffxi. It's like dynamis...but fun. I died many many times my first Ultima, but it was well worth it. The win felt like more of an accomplishment than killing DL because there are fewer people, and it feels more personal/intimate. I wish they'd add to it as they did w/ dynamis and the cop dynamis zones. ToAU limbus maybe? >_>
I'm d/ling WoW right now, mainly at the behest of my brother-in-law. I know, for me at least, it will not eclipse FFXI, and I will never choose it over FFXI, but I think I would regret not experiencing it to some extent. So many ppl love it, there has to be -something- worthwhile about it. And I think it will also give me a better appreciation for ffxi. All of my friends that have played both say that they understand FFXI more for having played WoW. I think that, most of the time, it's the player's fault that ffxi becomes a chore for them. When I came back to ffxi after quitting for 6 months I completely changed the way I looked at the game. MMO's are such that you make of the game what you choose to make of it. FFXI becomes a chore because the players -make- it a chore. WoW is a chore for many people in exactly the same way as FFXI is a chore. The one and only thing that I think SE has just completely dropped the ball on, and which player attitude has no control over, is deleveling. It's the most retarded thing I've ever seen in a game, and I cannot understand why they will not fix it. At the very least there should be a quest that will lock 75, so that it cannot be deleveled. I think fixing that one small, miniscule thing would bring people back to ffxi and keep them there. Endgame would be so much more tolerable if 75 could be locked. There's not much time to level, and yet you have to stay leveled for the ls, but ls events dont allow you to level, and the events themselves drain xp(btw, DRK spell, {Absorb EXP} anyone?) so much that endgame does become a chore. Nevertheless I think that the work involved is more than adequately rewarded by the fun times spent with friends, even if you think the gear isn't worth the time(which I do think it's worth it^^). That being said, I do understand why you're leaving Year, and bestofluck in WoW, if you run across a Rogue named Chionos...don't forget to /wave...and watch your pockets.
I'm not sure what it is about FFXI if it's the playerbase or the game design, but there is something that seems to cause players to make more work out of it than most people do out of WoW. I'm absolutely guilty of this. There an extra push for efficiency and stuff.
Anyway, I decided to take pics of one of my characters. Here is my Undead Shadow Priest just shy of dinging 25. Shortly before I took this picture I was attacked by a Druid while walking toward Stonetalon Peak to do some quest stuff. It was a cheap shot as I was at half health and fighting a mob. Luckily he was just chilling at the inn once I'd gotten up and made my way there. I sneaked around some of the Night Elf guards and owned him badly. Revenge is a great (and fun) thing.

Perhaps I'll update again later with pics of my Paladin or Druid.
Careful chionos. You may find yourself addicted once you play Rogue for a while and realize how badass it is.
EDIT: Little update on my Priest. I got some nice new pretties from some instances I ran recently.
Got none of the drops I wanted in Blackfathom Deeps, but did get an awesome quest reward.

After some bad luck runs in Shadowfang Keep I managed to get both of the following in a single run.

Hopefully I'll be able to go back and get the belt as well and maybe Odo's Ley Staff unless I can get lucky and get Staff of the Friar or Rod of the Sleepwalker in BFD.

Chionos come to my server! And join my LS! Wow has that "you can dol 97% of everything soro and get uber gear" aspect to it OH and you get exp bonuses when you haven't logged in a while so you don;t have to waste much time leveling. Has alot of attractive aspects to it and it -is- super fun for like... 2 months. Most FFXI players that leave for Wow usually come back because the community aspect of the game is addictive. Plus COR gear is sexy on my character <3 I couldn't abandon Day looking all sultry and pouty with a gun <3 <3 <3 /innerlesbiangrin
My wife and I used to be very anti-WoW because we believed in the anti-WoW hype from a lot of people that tried it and came back. I think a lot of the "it's fun for 2 months then boring" aspect comes from FFXI style players trying to play it FFXI style. A well known endgame BLM on my server left to play WoW. He was gone for 3 months and when he came back he said WoW was awful. He got to 60 as a Mage and had full dungeon, tier and epic gears and quit in that time.Quote:
for like... 2 months.
At the time I thought, well there must just not be that much game play. Now I realize that if you have the 3-6+ hours a day to devote to a game (like he did to both games) and you play through WoW in an ultra goal oriented fashion, you will 'beat the game' quickly. That takes a lot of fun out of it though I would imagine.
WoW has a lot to do and there's a decent amount of grouping if you want there to be. I group about 50% of the time even when I'm not playing with my wife. If you wanted you could XP by doing nothing but instances in all reality. It would be very much like FFXI then.
FFXI: Valkurm->Qufim->Jungles
WoW: Ragefire Chasm -> Wailing Caverns -> Shadowfang Keep (Horde side)
So you could play it very much like FFXI, put up your flag and go run one of these instances while getting good XP, fat loot and fat money and then do the next one. WoW allows you this flexibility whereas FFXI really doesn't. It has a very rigid scheme developed by the players.
I'm gonna take it slow in WoW. I'm in no hurry to max out my toons and say "I WONZD!!!" Something going for me is the wife factor. I play my Druid exclusively with my wife. Unlike FFXI we get to interact much much more directly. Doing quests and instances together is fun. Try to slowly and strategically pull a 5 man instance with just the two of us is a fun and exciting challenge and we really connect a lot while playing.
Not really trying to turn people to WoW, but I do like to point out the inconsistencies I see from a strongly anti-WoW community (which I used to be part of) within FFXI.
As for updates. I got my Druid to 31. He's nearly 32. My Priest is 30 now. Was doing some quests with my wife on my Druid and got two incredible world drops (like drops that can drop from a large variety of mobs but with around a 0.01% drop-rate) that are both awesome for my Paladin. I'll update with pics later ^^
I'm not anti-wow ;/ I'm anti-people-that-preach-wow-is-better-then-ffxi =D /huggles and I like harrassing you ^_^ <3 <3
Attached picture: That Wyrm BCNM. Pwn'd it and got Wyrm Beard and Juggernaut!
The only area I would say WoW is straight up better than FFXI in is the fact that Blizzard seems to give a crap about their game and is directly in touch with the users and they fix problems quickly and keep the players informed. SE is lazy about how they run their game.
Pretty much everything else between the two games is a matter of taste whether it be the graphics, the story, the grouping or the pacing of the game. I have my opinions there, but it's the customer service and support that is something I doubt anyone can argue SE is superior about. I would've gotten less frustrated about the game (and indeed the game would've improved in certain areas more quickly) if the developers kept a lifeline between themselves and the players.
BTW grats. How much is Juggy selling for these days?
well we got about 300K a piece so 5 mil+ I think Anain sold it for. was a nice little pay out to see the Wyrm Beard go to a mnk in the LS drama free!
Meh, I stopped WoW after approx. 4 month. The last month of the second pre-paid I haven't been there. Was a fun game though. Never got over level 50 and never really used the bonuses from the BC, but it was fun. Let's see how long FFXI lasts.
I just got Dragoon to 30, which is nice because now I can use my subjob Thief's Sneak Attack.
Who's the biggest DD in the party? Me. :D lol
Thief on 14 now.*glee*
Well I got my Priest to 30 and my wife made me a new headpiece, though I'm gonna miss my goggles (I'll probably make a superior pair later when my Engineering gets higher).

I got my Paladin to 26 before taking a screenshot because my pants made me look like I wasn't wearing anything under my guild tabard. Now I have visble pants (I thought WoW would let me escape from the subligars of FFXI ^^).
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2.../Paladin26.jpg
I also got to put on two awesome new pieces of gear for my Paladin. They are extremely rare (Usually called a world drop. Most can drop from a great number of mobs [as many as all on a continent] but with only a 0.01% drop-rate.) My wife and I got 2 such pieces within about an hour.

Finally a picture of my Druid (who I consider my main). He'd recently hit 32. He also has his pet Mechanical Squirrel that my Priest made (from a world drop recipe that my wife was lucky enough to get so that now all o my toons have a pet squirrel ^^). Ignore the fact that I'm wearing a fishing rod... I'd just been fishing.
