Really you shouldn't be much worried about it. I also couldn't skip FMVs and as you can see I still had decent time left so if all you are going for is the Excalibur II, you are totally fine. Though it will be harder if you have PAL version and you will have to be quite strict on yourself. If you have NTSC, it's very easy.
I thoroughly enjoyed this thread. I'm sorry for not contributing more, but I was just sitting back and letting it all unravel. Posting now it's finished, though.
I love the sound of the Vivi Challenge, haha. Seems like a great little way to experiment with the game. What was your setup for Trance Kuja that allowed you to basically auto-win? xD

Yeah experimenting with Vivi was really fun :D For Trance Kuja I had Vivi equip Pumice Piece for absorbing Holy and then just everything that gave me the highest magic defense, and equipped Auto-Regen and Return Magic. At level 64 that was everything I needed for him to take himself out.
