Is it unAmerican to say "Uni"?

It's as American as apple strudel.

I say Uni. Everyone in Australia says Uni. I thought it was just an Aussie thing. Guess not :p

Yeah, Australian's are always gonna say Uni. For example:

EDIT: Also, people who go purely by syllables are dumdumheads. I mean, it's not because Uni is faster to say than College. It's because it's easier, and also probably because it's more casual, and also because College is not short for University, and they are different things.

When I say it's easier to say, I mean that there is less tongue movement in 'Uni' than in 'College', and that does tend to be a strong influence in the development of shortened and/or slang words.

I went to a University and I still called it college. Saying uni is as unamerican as cricket and communism are.
