Actually, there is a use for it. It increases your stats. So, theoretically, you can max out every character's stats. This could take months, but every FF player is looking for a challenge, right?

Took me long enough to max out everyone's stats in FFVII, muchless do i have time to do it in more games. I've only done it in FFX and FFVII, the rest are too much work. :D
Essentially all random monsters can be devoured, but only a few actually raise your stats (the results depend on the monster devoured). These are the ones that are worth devouring:
Ruby Dragon: +10 HP
T-Rexaur: +1 Strength
Behometh: +1 Magic
Malboro: +1 Spirit
Adamantoise: +1 Defense
The best method for adding +1 to speed is mugging 100 cactus thorns from cataurs and refining them into a hundred Needles.
No no, I mean they took Rinoa in because she's a Sorceress. This is before Adel fight.
Make sure not to save inside the Lunatic Pandora unless you're ready to end that disc. You can't escape.
Hello, whats going on here then?
*stands up, hand in air, waving, jumping around*
I gotta question, I gotta question, me me me ME!
*gets picked*
Thank you.
I read somewhere that the monsters are growing along with me, so that when I get stronger, the monsters get stronger too. They actually level up.
Is this true? And to what extent? World map monsters as well as in-dungeon? And bosses too, I presume? And will any one of those be put on a hold at some point?
Doesn't this mean that leveling up on the world map would have no use??
I'm halfway through this game, and I'm still finding out new stuff about it. Hell, I still barely know anything about FF4's system. =)
Aaaah... Ain't I cute?
The monsters do level up as Squall levels up. The only exception is in Ultimecia's Castle, where they range in levels from 1-100.
I think more specifically, the monster's levels are a reflection of the average level of your party. Naturally the party gaining levels will make the monsters gain levels, so although you get tougher, they do too. There are a few benefits to leveling up your party:
1) Monsters carry better spells at higher levels.
2) The more experience your GF's get, the more useful abilities they learn.
Of course, with Diablos' Enc-None, you can avoid random battles entirely, but some monsters carry some nifty items in addition to their spells.
Some people try to avoid leveling up until they get Jumbo Catuar as a GF (who gives excellent stat bonuses).
Thanks, that clears up a big question mark I had floating over my head.
I always level up a bit everytime I get the chance, in between missions, when the world map is available... Final Fantasy always gives lots of oppurtunity to explore and take a break from the storyline.. Which I always appreciate... =)
One more thing:
Please tell me I'm going to get a better means of transportation than (SPOILER)the floating Garden..
Yes. You will eventually (SPOILER)go into space and find an airship called the Ragnarok. Don't read that if you don't want to know.
Thank God. And nope, I won't read that.... I was just enormously annoyed by my current transportation...
Yeah, using the Garden sucks serious ass-wipe.
I can sorta agree with that. I manged to beat the game with a party consisting of Squall (23), Zell (100), and Rinoa (100). The monsters on the world map, weren't that hard either. The highest I encountered on the map was around level 30. But keeping Squall in a constant state of Zombie or KO does wonders.Quote:

Any real strategy to devouring monsters? I've tried putting them to sleep, reducing their HP to very low levels, even using the Lvl-Down ability, but they still take forever to devour. Thanks.Quote:
