I wonder what civil rights infringing legislation will be passed in the wake of this. Certainly ID cards will be introduced now, and who knows what else we will have introduced. Airport style security at the London Underground and all train stations? It's possible.

This, sickening as it is, works in some twisted way. It reminds the government that security is going to have to be stepped up for the Olympics lest there be more bombings with even more casualties.

how hard can it be?

When it does happen, it will play straight into the hands of the terrorists. Their goal with this bombing was not to kill as many people as they could, it was to spread panic and fear among the people of London. High security measures, rather than make the public feel safe, are only going to scare them even more. The best thing we can do in this situation is not to let their tactics demoralise us, to realise that we are in fact quite safe from terrorism and that attacks like today's are rare. Otherwise, the terrorists will have won.

It's not just the deaths, the value of the pound sank when it first happened.

Death toll so far is 40+, with the injuries numbering 360+.

While there is physically nothing I can do, since I live about as far from England as possible, I will keep this event and the people in my prayers until it is over.

Hopefully Blair or someone can actually see that terrorism attacked in a meaningful and effective way. Bush certainly hasn't managed to do it yet.

Well I'm glad I went to work almost 2 hours early, the Underground would had just been closed if I was on my normal schedule :p

Because they should expect us to hunt them down, and lock them away somewhere, like Guantanimo Bay where noone will ever know what we've done to them.

This makes three terrorist attacks on Western cities in the past 4 years. This is just terrible...
