I'm happy that we no longer do mass deletions because I've lost so many threads in the past.
Yeah, Psy's not a huge problem these days as far as I know.
There's something I think a lot of people are missing out on, and that's that the problem doesn't always lie in the quality of threads but the quality of replies. About a month ago I went through 100 threads and noticed that all the threads that would have been closed in previous times of EoFF were closed, and all the others had some valid topic. The problem didn't lie in the threads being made, but rather the manner in which people spammed up the valid threads.
My preferred solution: Warn on first offence, usernote ban on second offence, final warning on third offence. Obviously the ol' ban comes after that. I remember HOORJ and how s/he got warned numerous times, said s/he'd stop numerous times and then carried on numerous times. Got banned, right? Yeah. I don't see why we can't do that again if people are doing the same thing.
Spat is still complaining about HOORJ to this day because of all the "flack" he took for it, thing is, there will always be spam, I agree that too much is bad (really bad and annoying) and some of the spam is in poor taste and quality. The thing is, as a "spammer" I hardly have that many posts, and I've only spammed three of four times, yet I am classified as a spammer by many of the newer members and those I have gotten to know well in my short time here. Some proper spam should still be allowed (with limitations) but the useless short posts in bad taste or simply without substance that many people still post (like my post at the top of the page).
As Psy said, you should spam for the personal enjoyment (or boredom/lack of sleep) of it not to look cool etc. Although I find spamming to make me look like a total tool/idiot to be equally enjoyable :D however the current amount of spam that's arround is pretty annoying, the good threads quickly fall to the bottom while simple two or three word reply threads survive on.
But it's not the quality in GC that's the worst, nor is it feedback, that now has really improved since I was drunk tanked (not as a result but as a general observation) and you made the rules stricter. But the X-2 forum, I know I don't NEED to go there but it's a great way to release stress, either way the quality of some of the FF boards really is down and that brings more low quality replies.
It seems quite simple really, low quality threads and posts bring more low quality threads and posts, and while you can try to limit this the best solution would be to stop complaining about it and try to bring more high quality posts and threads into GC to promote this sort of posting. :twocents:
Also, the fact that there are no post counts should help the quality...
Muhaha you know it SPAM! :joey:Quote:

Now you're going to have to go into rehab. for about a hundred years, PiP. In celebration of your first ever non-spam post. How odd that it should be about spam! :grinpink:
I read this far in the thread and stopped...because this is all that needs to be said.Quote:

Let me put it this way:
If I spammed your thread, you were probably asking for it.
As for the same topic in both forums, I’m all for this. Hell, I might end up with fewer EoEO bans this way…
…maybe.
Spam is bad but in a good way :joey:

Don't spam up threads, ToD, you'll get a banning pretty fast with that kind of attitude.
Damn that is hot. Stop turning me on    :-[ ;) :DQuote:

Also, in these cases I think it is best to lead by example.
If "today's calibur of posters" are the problem, why not turn off new registrations and start banning them? Personally, I don't think it's the calibur, I think it's the age. I also think "today's calibur of posters" are the only ones stupid enough to even read the ads.
I read everyone's posts. Even if they are trolling, spam or just downright obnoxious. I didn't come here to get insightful intellectual conversations though. I came here to have fun.
There is definitely an age consideration. I think people who say the 'magic' is gone are people who have just gotten too old to enjoy message boards like they used to. I have no data to back this up, though.
That's actually a really interesting observation, Del, and at least for me, the only post really worth remembering from this thread.
I've always been of the same opinion, not so much with age but with how long they've been here. You'll find that people who grow bitter of this place are the same people who don't get to know new people and just watch their friends go away while not picking up new ones. They also probably see the repeated threads a lot more negatively. I've always tried to get to know new people - not every one of them, but always some of them - as they come in. There's also the celebrity factor. That's when you join, you can talk about your private life openly with everyone here, because it's nothing to do with them. However, as time goes by, the things you want to talk about are to do with the friends you've picked up from here, and you can't talk as openly about your private life as you once could. I'm a good example of this last bit. When I first joined, I could talk about my girl troubles because nobody in the forums knew the girls. Now I have girl problems with well known members of these forums, and it's not so easy to talk about it.Quote:
