So I guess the Germans are making up for not invading South America in WW2?
I've not seen a massacre this brutal since Sony took to the stage at E3.
THE RIDE NEVER ENDS
This is truly amazing. SO many tearing up fans. Mm. Nom nom nom nom nom. Tears.
Wow, I just checked the score and the match timeline.
What has actually happened.
Costa Rica is done-zo, babe. These are the semi-finals. There are only 4 teams left (well, effectively 3 at this point). Germany, Brazil (lol), Argentina, and Netherlands.
Of the four, I guess Netherlands would be considered the underdog, but you can't root for them and have a soul simultaneously.
>>> Psychotic curse x 5..:luca:
Let the Brazilian riots begin. :jess:
trout, they shouldn't even come out of the locker room at this point.
I've not seen a humiliation this bad in a World Cup match since Spain. Remember that? Lol. Lol.
Football is officially dead to me if Netherlands win tomorrow.
What's Brazil doing in the poll, by the way?
I think I picked the winning team
The level of beating Brazil is taking right now...no words.
In truth, Brazil never showed a solid team to win the tournament. I was expecting Colombia to knock them off on the quaterfinals, but that wasn't meant to be. I think this result is more on line with the reality of Brazil, but still didn't expect such a beating. Great game, great football from the German team.
I forget, why do we hate the Netherlands?
>>> What the hell Germany, getting soft now?..:luca:
>>> 6-0 Oh, well......:luca:
Let's make it 7.
Go germany! Make it 7!
WOO GO FOR 8!
>>> LOL...:luca:
ooole ooolee!
Let's go for double digits. I really want to see them cry.
hehe, and if 7-0 wasn't enough, Nuer's doing pretty well back in the goalie box.
Finally they score SOMETHING.
This team cries way too much. IN GERMANY, THEY DRINK TEARS.
Best massacre since the Super Bowl
I'm really glad Brazil came out on top in the end. It was a close match, but Brazil was just the better team.
I'm surprised Brazil didn't just rage quit.
This is one of the biggest moments in football history. I cannot overstate it. This is the utter destruction of the Brazilian attitude towards football.
It seems almost every time you make someone your sig, they lose. Nice going, Psychotic.
It was also the game that got me to stop what I was doing, and to actually watch a game,
But yeah. Brazil have long been known as a team that plays football well. Today cements that they are not the team they once were, Especially with Klose now holding the record for most goals scored.
Go for it. I'm willing to take the risk. So long as it's not Germany.
what if it's you eating a bratwurst while wearing lederhosen?
I can assume someone will photoshop a picture of me in this very outfit. I will make it my own signature first to show the Germany support
well after what's happened to the shrek franchise in recent years I wouldn't recommend it
Somewhere, Croyles is crying tears of joy, whispering "I told you EoFF"
Argentina didn't do too great against Switerland. So I don't expect them to do too well against Netherlands. I want to see Germany against Netherlands tbh.
Hahahahahahahahahahahhahaha
Soooooo yeah I'm 13 for 13 so far o_O
I have the Netherlands winning it all
xD That image pretty much sums it up.
Argentina will save the world from the scourge of tedious robot football.
I still can't stop smiling after the result tonight. The look on David Luiz's face...

Just saying but, the US only lost to Germany by one.
http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m6...7ouho1_250.jpg
Just saying, Brazil.
I did Nazi that coming.
I have a soul
Agreed on Arjen Robben being a sneaky diver but in previous tournaments I reckon the Portugese were worse and I think Suarez takes the cake in this tournament.
What would Luis Suarez want with a cake now that he's got the taste for human flesh?
:erm: Christ. I've been looking at football all my life and that is the strangest match I've ever seen. It must be down to the expectation of the country that they kept pushing people forward and were so desperate for a goal. The Germans literally walked the goals into the net. Brazil's heaviest defeat ever.
I have a monstrous 5e on Germany since the start of the WC but I actually felt sorry for Brazil in the end.
I don't feel sorry for any nation that has such a sense of entitlement to win as Brazil did. Yes, I know I'm English. And I want to say thank smurf it was brutally beaten out of this nation over three or four World Cups of abject failure. It's awesome now everyone realises how awful we actually are. Brazil will learn to appreciate it too in time.
More than that I've enjoyed the media eating trout though. Ooh, the ~*~Selecao~*~ (a word I'd never heard used to refer to Brazil in the UK before this World Cup and I've still yet to see a regular football fan call them that) we all want them to win it despite losing their hero Neymar, oh what a wonderful story it'll be!!! Piss off.
It reminds me of Ghana in 2010 and the ridiculous coverage that got, and how we were all supposed to want an African team to win the African World Cup because it help's the media's inane narrative. Enjoyed the handball from relatively unknown Luis Suarez in his pre-supervillain days, though maybe that was his being bitten (ho ho ho) by a radioactive werewolf moment. Absolutely loved seeing ITV's howls of rage and the indignant outrage of their pundit Desailly (the man who cares so much about his native Ghana he chose to play for France) just as much as I've enjoyed seeing their beloved Selecao brought low.
Incidentally, here is a post I made after the Uruguay v Ghana game. Four years on you can swap Argentina for Uruguay and it is no less true. :)
I don't even watch soccer but 7-1 will definitely goes pretty far in Brazilian soccer history.
I've heard all of those. What are England called out of curiosity? The Three Lions?
I thought it was Woy's Boys?
Wasn't it the Roses or something? I forget. I'd never heard of the Brazilian one before either, though.
I think Brazil are far from "awful", in all honesty. They're still one of the best teams in the world. It's not exactly a disaster. Well, that specific game was, sure, but against a Colombian side who have been from all accounts fantastic in this tournament, Brazil were awesome to watch. I think that Brazil will go through periods like that which England goes through, where they try to realise exactly how it is that they were not able to win the World Cup.
What everyone seems to forget is that only one team can win the World Cup and in a shocking twist, it's only every four years and there are a lot of teams that are very good. I wonder if the likes of Germany, France and Italy go home crying when they only make the quarter finals or something and then start this long period of soul searching and nitpicking of their team and all that? I mean, come on... Brazil made the semi finals. It's not a disaster for them. I can somewhat relate because of NZ and their history with Rugby World Cups, but at least there are only about five teams capable of winning that contest any given year! With the World Cup there are generally about ten that or more that could realistically win it and the other nine shouldn't start crying because the didn't happen to win it.
Germany do, yeah xD See: Euro 2000. After that debacle they put into place wide-sweeping reforms that they're reaping the benefits of now.
Not if Alain Rolland has anything to say about it.Quote:

In light of recent events, this video has a different meaning
The reason why Brazil is butthurt is because the last time they hosted the World Cup they lost at home and it became this huge national tragedy (no seriously) and they wanted to avenge that and instead they got even more destroyed.
Not saying they're in the right to make it a huge deal, but that's why they, well, are.
Scrub like Messi is lucky he gets to stand on the same pitch as a hero like Dirk Kuyt.
Fan costume of the tournament goes to random Netherlands fan dressed up as an orange Hulk Hogan, complete with orange beard.
"Dirk Kuyt must score or they're out" "OH NO DIRK I CURSED YOU WHAT HAVE I DONE" *nails it* "Well of course he did "
Maxi is a beast too though so I don't mind, and Mascherano was immense.
Utterly boring troutfest of a game. Argentina haven't been entertaining at all. I hope the final isn't like this.
OKAY IT'S ON
WHO WILL BE IN PAUL'S SIG
Your sig curse man.
Who will win the World Cup Final? Find out as soon as Paul updates his sig!
Uhhhhhh guys I think you're forgetting the VERY IMPORTANT matter of the third place playoff first. :greenie:
I feel like Brazil might be a touch demotivated after their absolute destruction last night...
Oh don't be too sure. They'll be desperate to claim they "restored pride" or what have you. Even if they squeak a win on penalties they'll still claim that.
I feel that both Brazil and Argentina have a sense of entitlement to win and quite frankly I enjoy when their fans get their hearts crushed, which is laughable anyway because your team already won 3+ times and it's just a smurfing game. I hope Germany wrecks them tomorrow. And yeah, this game was boring as smurf. Americans suck at soccer, but at least they can put on a show. This was terrible and so was yesterday's game.
Of course, they will spin it in their favour however they can.
It will be an interesting weekend, hopefully.
"Rain falling heavily from the darkened skies. I say rain, but it could be the tears of a heartbroken nation." - Ian Darke commenting during the Holland v Argentina game as it started raining.
Easily the best part of the game.
How poetic.
Football one step closer to being saved.
Come on Argentina! Let's win one for beautiful football!
The final will be one time that Paul's Sig will be irrelevant. Germany will win, I assure you. If they don't, feel free to change my Sig to anything for 4 years until the next tournament.
That's how sure I am.
I think I called Argentina as my final pick, so I'm sticking with that.
I hope Sweden wins
The World Cup desperately needed Zlatan. :(
As the man himself said before the Portugal v Sweden playoff, it needs Zlatan more than it needs Ronaldo.
I hope NL beat Brazil, but in reality I think the extra day of rest for Brazil along with the fact it was a 120 minute match for the NL guys will mean that the Brazilians have far more energy and will beat the tired-legged Dutch.
I really really hope Germany win the cup, though, because Argentina haven't exactly done much to show that they deserve it. Germany have.
:( 13 for 14. Perfect bracket over.
That said, I could still tie for first in my pool if Argentina and the Netherlands win their respective games.
I have decided to support Argentina in the World Cup final.
If Argentina win, then my flutter on them before the semi-finals pays off. If Germany win, my prediction at the start of the thread comes through. What is worth more to me, real life money or EoFF ego boosting? I think the answer is obvious. Deutschland über alles :excited:
If the German fans don't sing that Argentinian song about crying, then I will be severely disappointed.
I want Germany to win cause they are the team I always root for and I'm usually wrong in these guessing things!
Viva Argentina!!!
Half of you only voted after the semis :p
I voted before the semis tyvm
It was a bit after the start though can't lie :shobon:
I know for a fact that The Captain, Rocket Edge and myself definitely voted either extremely in the competition if not before it because I remember checking them out after I'd voted. I'm pretty sure we all voted beforehand. I honestly have no clue about the others, but I know there were a couple of other people saying Germany.
We should really close these polls once the competition starts, or at least after just the first few games. xD
EDIT: If Argentina and Brazil both win their remaining games, The Captain will have predicted 1st, 2nd and 3rd accurately. He's already correctly predicted the final, but he had Uruguay facing Brazil for third.
EDITRA: Freya and Mr. Shauna also declared their backing for Germany very early in. Unsure about DarkBahamut, EMS and Hux.
I know The Captain did. He's been pushing bloody hard for the fantasy football, I've only just managed to reign him in and overhaul him in the semi finals and now it's going down to the wire.
BRAZIL OR NETHERLANDS
SPEAK NOW AND ASSURE YOUR POST-MATCH EOFF SMUGFACE :smug: OR FOREVER HOLD YOUR PEACE
(I'm voting Netherlands)
I want NL to win, I think Brazil will win. NL played 120 minutes just a few nights ago. Brazil played 90 minutes and have had an extra day's rest, have home advantage and a massive point to prove after their heavy loss.
Agreed with the chocobo.
Yep totally credible huehues will win that is an utterly believable thing that is in no way divorced from plausibility or reality
Captain Hindsight you've done it again. Uncanny!
Better than Captain No Foresight :smug:
Also if I'd been in the thread between your posts and the reminder that Brazil is getting killed, I would have posted that well before kickoff!
>>> why Brazil, why..:luca:

more WC fun..
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y15...robben2014.jpg
I went with Netherlands cause I kinda figured that Brazil would feel SO MUCH PRESSURE TO AVENGE THEMSELVES that they'd crack again. It appears my hunch was correct.
(Then I again I'm far from an expert on Euroball so MAYBE I JUST GOT LUCKY WHO KNOWS)
Oh yeah I know, I just like giving it silly names! Example: Welfareball (because commie countries with ~healthcare~ play it)
(As for the States it's basically the most played sport by schoolkids but then the major leagues get overshadowed by the Big Three and hockey. But we seem to love the World Cup more and more every time it rolls around and some MLS games are actually starting to rack up huge viewership numbers)
I didn't catch this one. I heard they got booed after the game. Ouch Brazil. Ouch.
I had Argentina beating Germany at the start. Soooo
Thinking about it now, I am okay with whoever wins.
If Germany wins then the guys I voted for win.
If Argentina wins Brazil is going to get massively butthurt and it's going to be hilarious (schadenfreude is best freude)
Exciting!
I've made it clear I don't defend the bite - how can you defend that? xD It was the act of an utter idiot. It was funny and made me laugh, but in the same way a wacky comedian making a fool of himself might make you laugh. My point has always been that the hysteria surrounding it when far worse things happen on the pitch - including what happened to poor old Dirk actually - is hypocrisy and people that indulge in it deserve to be made fun of :p I don't have any respect for the football media or most pundits at all, they love to be overly negative and critical of foreign players because that's what gets attention, but then they suck up to English managers/players because they're likely to stay in England all their careers and they need to build a good relationship. Fans who blindly parrot their views don't really get the time of day from me either.
Jermain Defoe bit the lovely man in my avatar in 2006 in a Spurs v West Ham match. How many of you even knew that? Was there a media troutstorm? I know Suarez is a repeat offender but that still doesn't fly with me - if biting is so abhorrent then one incidence of it is still worthy of moral condemnation, surely? But then Jermain Defoe being an arsehole doesn't quite sell papers like Luis Suarez being an arsehole does.
FIFA's ban was also the most ridiculous thing I've seen for football discipline, not even being allowed to attend games or even train is just outright draconian and I think it's just posturing and grandstanding. I still feel that way, it's still so far removed from anything that makes sense. Just make him play in a muzzle. He wants to act the fool he can look like a fool!
Finally, no, it doesn't matter who he plays for. I like Liverpool players more but contrary to whatever Old Manus says, if you actually look back on my posts I think I'm pretty fair when it comes to Liverpool players. You may remember my calls for my all time hero Steven Gerrard to be dropped from the England team, or saying Sturridge dived to win a penalty at Old Trafford. But then you may not, because nobody really takes notice or gives a smurf when I do that, but when I do praise/defend a Liverpool player it's because I'm a crazy Liverpool fan. Can't win! :p
You make some good points (I think I have even being converted to a DIRK supporter). For instance, in a Korean Premier League match you won't see a nobody getting the attention or ban that Suarez got, but then again it was in the WC in front of a portion of the world's population. FIFA being the mafia they are were always gonna come down harsh. I think the decision was harsh though.
You are fair IMO, like pretty much everyone else here. You say derogatory things about United at times but it's just keeping the rivalry alive (I'm guilty of this too, you bastard :smug:). If I have anything to share about football in general I post in this forum because it makes me laugh & I know I won't get silly replies from people who are blinded by the media.
Finally, opinions about tonight's match? I think 1-0 to Germany or else a penalty shootout. You just know Argentina will have studied Germanys style of play. Argentina play counter attacking against a German team who although quite attacking are set up extremely well. I think it will be fascinating, but with few goals IMO.
I honestly don't think the decision was harsh because it was the third time. If a guy in the stands bit someone three times, with longer bans each time, they'd be banned from stadiums for life by now, surely. Hell, they might even be off to prison.
Manus made the point that if it happened on rugby pitch he'd probably be banned for life. Thats very true.
I dunno, I think in general football's discipline actions are so wayward that everyone keeps comparing them to other sanctions that other players got and it's an element why there is debate. 'Suarez should not get 4 months because X got only two months! Suarez should get more of a ban because X got 6 months!'
Germany for the win!! There are more hunks in the team! :kaoclove:
And I like the colour of their flag!
Some little girl drew a picture of Neymar and they turned it into a plushie and it's so friggin' cute
http://www.childsown.com/wp-content/...1.26.18-AM.png
They're all in different competitions though - it's his first time doing it under FIFA's jurisdiction. FIFA clearly stated the other incidents weren't taken into account when they made the judgment.
HERE WE GOOOO
Shame that was offside, great ball, neat finish.
>people still think Messi is good at povertyball
laffo
you know, seeing how the game's going, Argentina will most likely win this
Have to say I have a big soft spot for Romero, he was a club legend in my Nottingham Forest FM2010 game when he helped lead the club (seriously if I recall he may have been either captain or vice captain) to Premier League & Champions League glory. Amazed that irl he's gone to Serie B despite remaining in the Argentine national team.
You know, this has been nowhere near as bad as I thought it would be.
I missed the first 30 minutes after misinterpreting the start time of the game. :( Gutted. But has been entertaining and I'm glad I've not missed any goals.
> watching on ITV
> why are you so mad
> rio ferdinand's swag jacket
Andy Townsend's simplistic "for me clive"s and "in and around"s are more enjoyable than permanent Eeyore impersonator Mark Lawrenson. But I dunno, can't decide. Flicking between the two.Me and my work mates texting about this. One of them reckons he's in HM Navy. I suggested they wouldn't let a red tie (bolshie nonsense, pip pip) through.
Argentina has the edge for me, and I think they will just edge out a victory.
I really hope that it doesn't go to penalties though - that would be a shame.
Come on Germany! Get in there!
I think this might go to Extra Time and then I think Argentina will just steal it. I think Holland have been fabulous this tournament though. I'm not just saying that because I'm a huge Manchester United fan either.
Ps What's with Palacio's weird rat style tiny ponytail?!
Messi is trying to win this game all by himself. It's not going particularly well. Just pass it to a team mate once in a while, eh Lionel? Might have better luck.
Germany keeps getting possesion but they aren't getting very close. So get in there damnit. They keep holding back. I need my win!
Closer to the goal? They aren't getting close so getting in there would be the goal.
Did that really need explaining?
I dunno, I think Germany's chances have been better than Argentina's thus far.
I still don't get where "there" is so yes, I'm afraid so. Do you want them all to run into the goal? I mean, that'd be funny and I'd enjoy it and I'm sure it'd be a great team-bonding exercise but I don't think it'd help them in their greater aim of emerging from this sporting contest as the victors.
This opening 60 seconds of ET has been fantastic. That flying tackle to stop the Argentine counter was sexy as hell.
Oh that was close.
Argentina's defense has been tight so that would be the there. Where they are defending. Germany has held a lot of possession so they would need to get through that defense or the there to make more shots.
Or should there not exist? I think a gaping hole in the land between how far Germany is getting and the goal could be quite dangerous and probably would result in a lot of deaths. I mean I know this is FIFA but deaths and football aren't a good thing!
Well see if "there" is the physical space where the Argentine defenders are inhabiting and you are encouraging the German fellows to enter said space, that's going to lead to unfortunate splicing and you're going to have brutal amalgamations of the two - Argermantinians if you will - wandering around.
No I'm sorry Kaycee I cannot support you in your desire for Frankenstein's monster-esque footballer creations. I can see that you're trying to spice things up and I'm all for that, but I'm too much of a traditionalist to endorse playing with the rules of science on a football pitch.
I'm sorry you didn't understand my comment. Now you're getting silly.
Let's go back to enjoying the game silly person.
Apology accepted. :) I was only silly because you mentioned gaping holes though and thought that was how we were rolling.
Anyway, back on topic I've been saying all week this one is going to penalties. 15 minutes to prove me wrong boys!
Both Aguero and Mascherano should have been sent off. Argentina better lose, they've suddenly resorted to bullying in the last 15 and it's ridiculous what they're getting away with.
I've lost count of the head injuries in this game!
Ouch! That head butt collision
ARGENTINA HAVE ALLOWED THE BALL TO BE KICKED INTO THEIR NET EVEN THOUGH THEY WERE SPECIFICALLY TASKED WITH PREVENTING THIS FROM OCCURRING!
Yesssssssss!!!!!!
Chubby crying kids are what the World Cup is all about :')
I hoped your curse would pull through Psychotic, I really did.
My heart.... Be still.
Also seriously, are the Brazilian camera crew on one long perv? You can't go five minutes in this World Cup without them checking out some attractive women in the crowd. Who gives a smurf if I wanted to perv I'd use the god damn internet, I'M HERE FOR THE MEN IN SHORTS GOD DAMNIT :argh:
it's 2014 not 1974 bloody hell.
God Dammit Linda! Why didn't you trade me for Germany in the sweepstake!?
WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!
Also. Shrekkm8, Paul.
Woooooooooooo my team won. Picked them from the beginning. Woooooooo
I'm pleased for Germany. I think they deserved it.
On another note,

THANK YOU BASED GOTZE
Justice. Good result. Will hold my hands up, I have no objection to 3 seconds of shots of hot Argentinan ladies in the middle of my Men In Shorts Day.
Schweinsteiger my Man of the Match. Guy was brutalised to hell and just kept getting back up and putting his body on the line for the good of the team. Seemed to be freakin' everywhere.
>>> Over already, I wanted penalties. and did Messi play? :tumble: ..:luca:
The next one Russia right? Its gonna be cold there..
Everything I've ever loved is in ruins. All my hopes, all my dreams, all of them are in tatters.

My homeland of course. Proud English lions. Relied on a potato man and a captain who is literally 46.

Ah, Uruguay. My fallen idol. Transformed into a werewolf and his team were smurfed without him.

Chile played some sexy football and I loved their verve. Brazil promptly jammied them on penalties.
http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e3...ps77a9c311.jpg
Ah, America. I had USA as a team in my work's sweep, and victory would see the game becoming very popular over there. Part of me, though, part of me wanted them to fail after some of the gloating reactions to my beloved England. I was in two minds. Was there a curse? I didn't know. But it was not to be.
http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e3...psdd30d0c4.jpg
It was at this point I began to realise my powers and smurfed the Belgians hard just to spite Bubba. Even the afro in this signature was subsequently destroyed.
http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e3...ps49dbbc4d.jpg
The sheer hubris of this nation offended me. Did you know they created a victory song to celebrate their impending victory over Germany? It was never sung. I am glad they were silenced forever.
http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e3...ps6e3ec364.jpg
Everybody implored me to turn on the Dutch after Robben's diving. I couldn't bear to put him in there. Instead I turned to a man I love, and watched as he took an elbow to the back of the head and lost so much blood. For the greater good, I told myself.
http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e3...pse6f9ad69.jpg
At this point, well. The Argentines had indulged in their wacky Malvinas antics before the tournament. If Messi so much as scored a tap in off his arse the media would be screeching that he was the best player of all time. I couldn't let that happen. They had to be stopped... and I had the power.
What started as an innocent love of football and nations grew into something dark and sinister. I know now my signature has a dark power. The power to make a nation and the power to break a nation. I believe justice has been delivered, but such a power should be used responsibly. I reckon my work here is done. http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e3...ps319ed24a.gif So long, World Cup thread. *rides into the sunset*
>>> Hey Psychotic, are you happy with Germany being the champions??..:luca:
I would have liked England to win, even if they didnt have any chance..
I think you should go back to putting your beloved Premier League teams into your sig. By which I mean Liverpool and Manchester City, not Leicester City. I don't mind if Leicester City win the Premier League.
EDIT: Hell, throw in Chelsea while you're at it!
EDITRA: Oh and Arsenal.
MMMMF MMMMF I LVOE BELGIUM!
>>> The german players doesnt look very happy (SPOILER)robots..:luca:
This was a fun thread.
Welp, back to waiting around for decent horse races and curling matches I guess ᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗ
Messi totally undeserving of the Player of the Tournament based on the two games I saw him in. I hear he did well at the group stage? I dare say Rodriguez did better than he did based on what I heard in the papers. I can only recall Messi being mentioned in glowing terms in one of the games he played in.
You guys watched more games than I did. What do you think? :o
i think it's a dumb honor in a team sport anyway
anyway gg all
congrats to all the winners
Ah well. That was fun. :} Well done Germany, you played a good game.
See you all (in a football thread I'll actually post about) in two years for EURO 2016!
In other news: 2 girls,no cup.

Just a couple of things:
Germany deserved it IMO. I hope Higuain is safe going back to Argentina after that first half miss.
Best player of the tournament is Robben for me. Holland got third with a team of workhorses with one creative talent in him on the wing and could have easily won the thing. That's amazing.
Thank you BoB. I remember being the first (if memory serves me correctly) as being the first to vote for Germany. :D
Fantastic display of diving by Muller. And kudos to the Italian ref for missing a blatant penalty when the German keeper came out to challenge the ball.
