"Harvest" by Opeth
Stay with me awhile
Rise above the vile
Name my final rest
Poured into my chest
Into the orchard I walk peering way past the gate
Wilted scenes for us who couldn't wait
Drained by the coldest caress, stalking shadows ahead
Halo of death, all I see is departure
Mourner's lament but it's me who's the martyr
Pledge yourself to me
Never leave me be
Sweat breaks on my brow
Given time ends now
Into the orchard I walk peering way past the gate
Wilted scenes for us who couldn't wait
Drained by the coldest caress, stalking shadows ahead
Halo of death, all I see is departure
Mourner's lament but it's me who's the martyr
Spirit painted sin
Embers neath my skin
Veiled in pale embrace
Reached and touched my face
Into the orchard I walk peering way past the gate
Wilted scenes for us who couldn't wait
Drained by the coldest caress, stalking shadows ahead
(Release your grip, let me go, into the night)
Halo of death, All I see is departure
Mourner's lament but it's me who's the martyr

This thread would probably be a lot more interesting if people were required to post their reactions to what they were listening to. Maybe more active as well, since it'd make people more likely to discover things that they would be interested in.
Drudkh - Коли Пломінь Перетворюється на Попіл [When the Flame Turns to Ashes]
I used to play this album practically once a day. This album (Кров у Наших Криницях, or Blood in Our Wells) is a highly progressive and Ukrainian folk-influenced take on black metal, with songs mostly averaging about ten minutes in length and comprised of several separate sections. Lyrics are apparenetly taken from classical Ukrainian poetry, though as I don't speak Ukrainian I can't translate and they're probably close to unintelligible over the music anyway. Two years after discovering this album it still sounds fresh and inventive.
Beyond Electric Dreams - Bad Religion
This is one of my favorite songs by Bad Religion.
Goody too shoes - Adam Ant
Hear, hear! :DQuote:

Now playing: "Evil's Symphonic Poem (Death's Theme)" and "Clockwork" - Castlevania: Judgment Soundtrack
Despite reports that the game itself is terrible even beyond what is reasonable for a Wii title (never even seen the gameplay firsthand, mind), the soundtrack is quite an intriguing piece of work . . . We're working primarily with remixes of older Castlevania tracks, revamped with some truly kickass instrumentation. "Evil's Symphonic Poem" is just a wickedly prideful congregation of electric guitar riffs, stringwork, some intricate percussion effects (celesta-type bells a la Symphony of the Night Soundtrack), and, thankfully, usage of brass that is fairly imitative of the sound of stringed instruments, just with an entirely different auditory flavor. Love it.
"Clockwork", on the other hand, probably required the harpsichord player to be under heavy influence of some type of narcotic.
Other than that, the same basic instrumentation as "Evil's Symphonic Poem", and the majority of the entire soundtrack, really. Granted, precious little original composition is taking place here, but there is a great deal of rearrangement, which is difficult enough on its own. *_*
'Another Love Song' - Queens of the Stone Age
Moved to shiny new thread since old thread was dead dead dead.
I'm listening to "Help Me Hold On" by Travis Tritt because I am in a country mood. I love Travis' voice - it's at once plaintive and impassioned, no matter how cheesey the song; even without lyrical legitimacy he creates a mood, an emotion and he takes you there. Basically he can tell the worst stories in the best way.
Robert Schumann's Symphony No. 3 in E Flat, Op. 97 (Rhenish) - Scherzo (Sehr mässig) because I am working on someone's computer. That's the reason, but it doesn't reveal much in regards to a question of "Why?" much...
eep... more micro-type i have to magnify 150% in order to read... anyway i'm listening to "Marilyn Manson: The High End of Low" currently, i don't listen to singles but rather the entire album cause single hopping is lame in my opinion, artists rarely intend for you to single hop as an entire album is 1 cohesive work of art... anyway it's a great album with some good songs, i'm liking "Pretty as a Swastika" it has a great hook, "Four Rusted Horses" is a great track with that Space Cowboy feel to it, a 9 minute opus titled "I Want to Kill You Like They Do in the Movies", and a trash disco type track titled "WOW" and no it's not a referance to World of Warcraft it's wow as in disbelief... and that's where i'm at on the disc at this moment...
Right now I'm listening to Forest Maze from super Mario RPG :D
It makes me happy and brings back fond childhood memories!
Flashback - Riot Brothers
Very rare that I listen to Hardhouse dance music, but this one's a classic.
Pyramid Song - Radiohead
Hello Lonely - Theory of a Deadman.
:nibbles:
Repo! The Genetic Opera soundtrack but...
On a more serious note...
I DON'T KNOW IF I CAN HANDLE A NEW THREAD!
Now Playing: "Warcraft Suite" -- Video Games Live: Volume 1
Alright, this one is for NeoCracker -- a brief frigging post, as I am pretty much drained of any inclination towards effort just now.
As for the music: I like it, and I heard it performed live! :frust:
Bon Iver - Blood Bank
A new discovery, I really enjoy him. He's fascinating. It's almost entirely a guitar acoustic sort of sound, but he occasionally throws in auto-tone, which is lamely overabundant in most music, but it actually works with his songs, kind of like the effect in that Imogen Heep song, "Hide and Seek".
Dance Gavin Dance - Uneasy Hearts Weigh The Most.
It's really pretty... I really love the lyrics too.
So Much Pain - 2Pac
A young Tupac telling his story of sorrow, in only the way he can.
Ingrid Michaelson - Keep Breathing
Right now I am hitting myself in the head with various objects to hear what kind of vibrating echo it produces in my skull.
Bricks do not produce an echo when struck. Or maybe do they and just forget everytime I regain consciousness.
:kaolaugh: <---- At space pope.
Flyleaf's self titled debut album is whats spinning in the olde CD player at the moment. I normally wouldn't listen to Christian rock but their just such a good band!
Magic Medicine - Incubus
Isn't that hippo fat?
Anyone who doesn't like this song shall be abolished from my religion and cast into center of your planet where you will be forced to live with mutant prairie dogs that will feast of your soft, scaleless flesh, so sayeth the Space Pope.
Electric Wizard - Dopethrone
YouTube - Electric Wizard - Dopethrone
I Rather Be Wrong - MF Grimm
Such a sick track and definitely one of the best things I've stumbled across this summer. Grimm has had such an arduous, painstaking life and you can feel the raw emotion in his flow as he raps. Crazy powerful song.
Corpse Voyage ~ Be of good cheer!
It's a very updeat BGM and theme for an annoying boss with evil ghost fairies and circle patterns of death, but she is still such a fun battle. Orin is such a crazy cat. :choc:
In the Aeroplane Over the Sea - Neutral Milk Hotel
I'm listening to Winter Is Gone by Nick Drake. It's weird, up until two weeks or so ago I was convinced that three albums was all Nick Drake's discography encompassed, but then Spotify goes and releases this compilation of bootlegs and whatnot called Family Tree, which has almost as many songs as his main albums put together. And it's pretty great.
dusty springfield - son of a preacher man
The Hazards of Love - The Decemberists
This may be my favourite album of 2009 so far.
Chrono Trigger soundtrack:)
Forever! :magus:
Been alternating between two tracks, myself:
"Gathering Stars in the Night Sky" - Xenogears soundtrack
There are some major similarities in the opening of this piece to a piano track Mitsuda would eventually compose for Xenosaga I, called "Warmth". As a standalone composition, though, it really is (listening, Wolf Kanno? ;)) an example of how the gradual evolution of the technology affects the possibilities for sentimental tracks. Get a proper amount of tremor occuring on what was undoubtedly a top-notch woodwind synth at the time, and the experience is made much more "real".
Additionally:
"Standing the Storm" -- William Joseph
Personal favorite piece from the artist (something of an obscure protégé of David Foster, and an exceptional pianist), integrating the massive symphonic elements with the piano lead with unparalleled evocative power. *_* The absolute highlight of the piece is the viola section (perhaps violin) entry at 2:09. The track just produces such vivid imagery that one almost feels it should be saved for particularly special occasions. The most obvious image is one of a violent storm, cast in dark, textural layers of gray, wavering curtains of precipitation, and positively ferocious winds. A lot of wind seems to be involved in musical imagery when one wears a dark trenchcoat as outerwear, and lives for the moments when the full flow of the garment can be put into play. :plotting:
Will you be there - Michael Jackson
A very deep MJ song indeed.
Skinhead Symphony - The Specials
A brilliant medley of some classic songs popular in the 2tone era (The Pioneers' Longshot Kick the Bucket, Harry J & the All Stars' The Liquidator, and Syramip's Skinhead Moonstomp).
This live performance sums up the atmosphere of this song, really (though misses off the first two or so minutes of the studio recording), and makes me wish I was going to see them again in the last leg of their reunion tour towards the end of the year.
;-)
The Outfield - Your love, and before i managed to push "submit reply" To Live and Die in LA - Wang Chung
I am going to take the sizable risk of assuming that the "only one post per every ten" rule no longer applies now that it is not included in the thread title :erm:, in hopes that my actions will precipitate the desired change. Bearers of the banhammer, be gentle. <_< >_>
"Viva La Vida" -- Coldplay
Coldplay's one excellent track, in my estimation, followed distantly by the tolerable "Cemetaries of London". "There was a wicked and wild wind / Blew down the doors to let me in / Shattered windows and the sound of drums . . ." :magus:
What better musical backdrop against which to cook spaghetti (and its necessary sauce) for a solitary meal? :erm:
"Your Next Bold Move" by Ani DiFranco
YouTube - RJD2 - June
I am very picky when it comes to rap. This one here is pretty cool.
i am listening to a mix I made to make sure it works.
current track: LCD Soundsystem - All My Friends
next track: Wolf Parade - I'll Believe in Anything
Beautiful Morning With You by The Pillows
Quite possibly my favorite song by this band.
Been listening to a lot of Tom Lehrer lately.
Right now I'm listening to I hold Your Hand in Mine, which is a deeply, deeply disturbing song...
YouTube - Tom Lehrer- I Hold Your Hand in Mine
Took it a bit to register just what that song was about too. :p
I hope one day that song will apply to me.
Katethegreat19 aka Kate Covington. Her Final Fantasy covers are absolutely brilliant as are all her songs thus far.
Nox Arcana - Lullaby
"If Everyone Cared" - Nickelback
I have long since ceased to pay attention to any of the actual lyrical content of the song, as it is a severely limiting influence on the imagery the music summons, and I have basically envisioned every facet of several image sequences to go along with this song, perhaps the best of a extremely polarized discography. The band is godawful, in many ways, what with songs like "Animals" and various others :roll2, but there are six or so that I can abide.
I am not one for self-sacrifice (I have yet to locate more than one or two individuals for whom I would even consider laying down my life), but if I were to become someone's savior, it would ideally be in the company of dark skies, dark circumstances, and dark dignity. No punches pulled; the meat of the imagery here would involve my being physically ruined in exceedingly vicious fashion, followed by one sort of supernatural kamikaze or another. The person had better be damned well worth it.
Ha! was about to make one of these before I found this.
Killswitch Engage - Reckoning
iwrestledabearonce - Firelord Ulrich (remix by Dada Yakuza)
iwrestledabearonce - Danger in the Manger (Jimmy Urine mix)
