Mos Def - War
I'm quite impressed by the diversity of Mos Def's production and the depth of his lyrical content. Will definitely be returning to these albums quite often.

Mos Def - War
I'm quite impressed by the diversity of Mos Def's production and the depth of his lyrical content. Will definitely be returning to these albums quite often.
99 Luftballons - Nena
Dead Prez - Animal in Man
Superb hip-hop retelling of Animal Farm. After two listens to Lets Get Free I can tell I'm going to be returning to it quite often.
Blur - Fools Day
Boogie Down Productions - Part Time Suckers
Sparse but effective Golden Age hip-hop. This album is cited alongside It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back as one of the first truly socially conscious hip-hop albums and I can see why.
Bjornstad & Darling's The River VI from the 1997 album "The River".
This is an improvised album between two very talented individuals that is intimate, dark, emotionally intriguing, and refined in its ability to convey a deep sense of water and fluidity. The real beauty of the album lies in Darling's evocative use of his cello.
Public Enemy - Fight the Power
Fear of a Black Planet deserves every bit of its reputation; an immaculately produced hip-hop album with layers upon layers of sonic depth. The only sonically comparable album I'm aware of from the same period is Paul's Boutique; and needless to say, the lyrics are superb (although I could've done without the homophobia on "Meet the G That Killed Me" but hey, no album is 100% perfect). I don't know why it took me so long to comprehend this album fully.
The Alchemist ft Prodigy, Nina Sky & Illa Gee - Hold You Down
Mt Eden Dubstep - Sierra Leone
Mistle Thrush - Agus Amarach EP (1995)
Nas - It Ain't Hard to Tell - ILLmatic
one of my all time favorite tracks off one of the best CDs off all time
Daft Punk - Discovery
Natural Born Killer by Avenged Sevenfold.
Nightmare is an AMAZING album, every single song is fantastic imo.
Mos Def - Umi Says
Black on Both Sides has quickly become one of my favourite albums ever.
Geomatic's Sacrifice from their album 64 Light Years Away
Woomp a roomawoomp zrruuuna woomp womp go the Dutch
Änglagård - Jordrök
Prog at its finest. I wonder when these guys are going to release a new album.
Shyne - More Or Less
I love shyne. Yes he raps about the same old things but I love his voice and his :bou::bou::bou::bou::bou: you attitude. Also glad he's outta Jail now.
Edit: well he's out fo jail but.. "Shyne was deported back to Belize on Wednesday October 28, 2009 where he will continue to fight for residency in the United States."
Sorry for the double post but I had to post this song
Novel feat. Skillz - The Don't Flow
It's from a Rawkus records mixtap and is basically aout how rap isn't the same as it used to be but very catchy.
"Differently" - Q. Burn & Lisa Shaw
The sound that starts at :55 is enough to make me fall in love with this song.
Warning - Echoes
As is par for the course these days, I've vastly improved the mix with Clip Fix. :monster: Traditional doom metal at its finest.
Starstrukk - 3OH!3 (feat. Katy Perry)
I like radio trash. :D Plus it's catchy as hell.
Immortal Technique - Dance with the Devil
This song is like a kick in the gut. While Tech's stuff is often likely to be off-putting to those who don't agree with him due to his (to say the least) strong political stances, anyone not severely disturbed by this song probably doesn't have a soul. Masterful.
I can see why; alongside "You Never Know" it's probably the best thing he's ever recorded.
Immortal Technique - Hollywood Driveby (feat. Psycho Realm & Sick Symphonies)
Letter from a Thief- Chevelle
Dälek - Culture for Dollars
While I've admired Dälek's material since I first heard it, since I really started listening to hip-hop extensively again they've become one of my favourite artists. They work on every level for me, and create soundscapes that really sound completely unlike anything else I've heard in any other genre of music. One of the most unique artists in my library for certain.
YouTube - Tim Minchin: Rock n Roll Nerd
I'm growing some mad love for this guy. First song I heard was The Pope Song, which was just comical, though this one I prefer to it. It's hilarious, has a lot of heart, and the music is great.
This one and Ten foot cock and a Few Hundred Virgins are my favorite so far.
I do love 5 Poofs and Two Pianos as well.
Fragile by God is an Astronaut from All Is Violent, All Is Bright.
My friend and I were discussing music and how we should start a band. Unfortunately, I do not play guitar, harmonium, or piano anymore. :|
The Mars Volta - Day of the Baphomets
I've finished my Clip Fix trawl through their discography (although I still need to do a clip fix of the original version of Frances the Mute; I've only done my eighty-three minute abridgement of the complete six-song album). I appreciate all of what I've listened to more than I previously did, and finally feel Amputechture and The Bedlam in Goliath can stand alongside their previous two albums (I haven't listened to Octahedron or Scabdates yet but I'm sure I'll like those more than I previously did too). The original mixes were atrocious and made them almost unlistenable to me.
Sage Francis - The Best of Times
Really hits close home for me......
Semi Precious Weapons - Semi Precious Weapons
Dr. Dre - Forgot About Dre :spin:
The Delgados - The Great Eastern
SWANS - The Sound
This song is heaven: I could listen to it forever.
If I Had You - Adam Lambert
The song is kickass but the video makes me rofl in some parts xD
Yeah that's an amazing song.
Between the Buried and Me - All Bodies
recovered a bit of dynamic range with Clip Fix. Wish it had been more but it's still more listenable than the original mix, which lately pissed me off so much that I couldn't listen to this album at all despite loving the musical content.
Joell Ortiz - 125 grams part 4 (finale)
this song is amazing and addictive. I can't stop listening to it.
Immortal Technique - Creation & Destruction
went through his discography with Clip Fix now :monster: It's recovered a lot more dynamic range than btbam did; sounds awesome.
Casting Crowns' Until the Whole World Hears. I love this album.
The Dismemberment Plan - Emergency & I
DJ Shadow - Mutual Slump
Immortal Technique - You Never Know (feat. Jean Grae)
It doesn't matter what mood you're in; you'll be hugely depressed after listening to this song. Well, if you have a soul that is. Masterpiece.
To Zanarkand, now. I love piano music.
I don't think I've heard an Immortal Technique song that was happy :p
He doesn't generally do happy but "Positive Balance" from his first album comes pretty close :monster: And yeah, "Dance with the Devil" is probably his best song.
The Mars Volta - Askepios
Despite some inventive musical content I find the original version of this album to be almost unlistenable. Good thing clip fix exists.
Wtf are you doing to your music?
Slayer - Angel of Death
Thrash pretty much at its best.
Audacity has a feature called "Clip Fix" which is intended to be used to recover dynamic range from recordings that have suffered accidental clipping. However it also works on professionally recorded CDs, as it seems three quarters the recordings major labels :bou::bou::bou::bou: out these days are atrociously clipped (I am basing this solely on my having looked at the discographies of The Mars Volta, Muse, Moonsorrow, and Dream Theater). So I use Clip Fix to restore the dynamic range. It doesn't sound as good as it would if there hadn't been any clipping to begin with, but it sounds a lot better than what the labels apparently considered a releasable product.
Strangely, Clip Fix even recovers a bit of dynamic range from recordings compressed in other methods, though nowhere near as much, and on some recordings the difference it makes is inaudible. Also note that sometimes Clip Fix overcompensates when generating the new waveform so I sometimes have to compress the resultant signal somewhat in its restored dynamic range (usually by about a 2:1 ratio, but it varies depending on how much dynamic range it restores).
More on the loudness war here.
Muse - Stockholm Syndrome
First time actually listening to some of their Clip Fixed albums. The improvement is stunning. This is the CD of HAARP; I'll probably listen to the DVD (which is of a different, and longer, show) tomorrow.
No ticket- the menzingers
Still Alive. Some people are creeped out by it, but I find it funny.
"I'm not even angry
Even though you broke my heart
And killed me
And tore me to pieces
And threw every piece into
A fire"
This song is a triumph.
Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band - Hair Pie: Bake 1
goddamn I've been neglecting them for far too long
Richard Marx - Right Here Waiting For You
I am really into romantic songs! :kaoclove:
Della Reese - The Best Thing for You
Live version from the album "At Basin Street East" from 1964, which is quite possibly my all-time favorite album. The gal can sing anything and everything.
Staind-Believe and Right Here. OMGUBERROXXORZ.
Bizarre Love Triangle by New Order. I FREAKING LOVE THIS SONG.
Red Velvet or Nothing by Belong from their album October Language
Sweet, delicious, dreamy noise
Bush, Institute & anything Gavin Rossdale related the man is a genius
Alone And Unaware, The Landscape Was Transformed In Front Of Our Eyes by Red Sparowes from At The Soundless Dawn
I haven't listened to Red Sparowes in quite a long while so I figured it was about time to give them their due. Very calming.
Down For Whatever :: Ice Cube
I watched 'Office Space' for the billionth time and although the song always caught my attention I never thought to look it up until recently. I like it despite the fact that I got over my 'rap phase' about 9 years ago.
Nancy Wilson - Guess Who I Saw Today
The song have become one of her signature tunes, and it was originally introduced in the show "New Faces of '52", which marked the beginning of the legendary Eartha Kitt.
Shining - 21st Century Schizoid Man
utterly insane King Crimson cover, by far the most intense Crimson cover I've ever heard. Perfect ending to a superb, groundbreaking album.
this is the Norwegians btw, not the Swedes, although I like the Swedes as well.
Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin. This song is a canon song at the dances at camp and so listening to it makes me nostalgic and sad. This is also the song where I danced with the guy I really liked at camp. Those were good times...
Play That Funky Music. Need I say more?
dälek - Black Smoke Rises
Anyone who thinks all hip-hop sounds the same really owes it to themselves to listen to dälek. One of the most unique artists I've ever heard in any genre.
Meh. Not really into rap or hip-hop.
Never Gonna Be Alone by Nickelback. OMG Teh nickelback.
The Crablouse :: Lords of Acid
Basically the only standout thing from the new Zack Snyder film's trailer was this song imo. It's so smurfing catchy, and I cracked up when I listened to the lyrics properly.
dälek has as much in common with industrial and noise music as it does with most hip-hop.
dälek - Opiate the Masses
Delicate - Damien Rice
A simplistic yet beautiful song that always reminds me of the early days of LOST... when it was good.
Symphony No.5 in C minor, op.67 - 1-4 (Allegro con brio, Andante con moto, Allegro, Allegro) composed by Ludwig van Beethoven, as conducted by Carlos Klieber, played by the Wiener Philharmoniker.
One of, if not THE, best. This song is one of the most memorable things that I had the pleasure of playing in a true symphony.
Don't believe me? Skip to 6:00 and listen to that dynamic, thundering beauty!
Disco Ensemble - Black Euro.
Quickly becoming one of my favourite bands, all of their songs are strangely addictive but not in a sell-out mainstream way, infact they're one of Finland's best kept musical secrets. I absolutely adore them!
"In the world of dull mainstream-rock and self-repeating emo-bands, Disco Ensemble sounds fresh and inspiring."
:D
Agalloch - A Celebration for the Death of Man...
Probably Agalloch's best album. Beautiful stuff.
Lightning Bolt's Colossus from their album Earthly Delights.
Rocking noise at its finest.
Also, The Man, can you send me a link to Mantle: I only have their Ashes Against the Grain album.
yeah I'll upload it soon
Falls of Rauros - Contemplation of the Forgotten
Listening to this you'd swear it was from the Pacific Northwest but they're actually from Maine, a pretty unusual locale for folk/black metal bands. Anyway it's good stuff. I think I like their second album better though. Can't wait for the third release which is going to have A. from Panopticon on drums; he's an amazing drummer.
Golden Glove Humility :: Minute 36
These guys are a local band from my town, and they're awesome. I'm in love with some of this guy's lyrics, it's really 'Edgar Allen Poe-ish', except modern. The style of music might not be for everyone, but these guys definitely deserve to get a little recognition.
Coldplay - X&Y. I love this song, even though I don't really understand it. But Viva la Vida is my favorite by Coldplay.
Black Star - Thieves in the Night
This album is rightfully regarded as a hip-hop classic. With Mos Def and Talib Kweli each giving some of their best performances ever over some superb production, how could it not be?
Three Doors Down- Kryptonite. I. LOVE. THIS. SONG.
Failure's Undone from their Magnified album.
It's not "Fantastic Planet", but hell, what can actually match that moment in space-rock?
Gorguts - Faceless Ones
Simply one of the most bizarre and intense death metal albums ever recorded. I know of nothing else that sounds like Obscura.
My House On Mars by Ayreon
A Tolkien reference. And a screen name my ex used to go by.
I gave it a listen. . . I like the music, but I don't care for the vocal technique. Then again, I don't really enjoy the vocal techniques in any variation of metal.
As for me, I've gotten into Pinback, Straylight Run, and Taking Back Sunday only recently, admittedly rather late in the game. Ah well.
yeah extreme metal isn't known for pretty vocals. it's generally a statement against the overcommercialisation of the music industry. it took me awhile to get into the vocal style but now I can't really imagine most of these bands with clean vocals.
Drudkh - Коли Пломінь Перетворюється на Попіл [When the Flame Turns to Ashes]
Ripping my vinyl of this. Unfortunately my turntable has decided it wants to vary its speed for no apparent reason. My previous rip had a couple of skips because I had too many programs open. I'm probably going to have to do some savvy editing to get a rip of this that sounds good.
One of Ukraine's finest bands for sure; I've got four of their LPs now and the other three are on the way to me. I put off buying most of their albums for far too long given how much I've listened to them. (I had this album, Forgotten Legends and Microcosmos on CD before getting the LPs, but didn't get any of their other stuff until recently).
Cosmic Love - Florence and the Machine.
Fell in love with this song after hearing it during a love scene in the tv series V. :p
Weezer- (If you're wondering if I want you to) I want you to
Makes me nod my head in a way that only Weezer can make me.
Bill Hicks - Goodbye You Lizard Scum
One of my favourite comedians ever.
The Killers- Human. Why can't we be human AND dancers...? This song triggers nostalgia for me.
The Mars Volta - Cassandra Gemini
My screen name at a bunch of different places is a takeoff on this song's title. Which probably gives you a fair idea of the high regard in which I hold this song. Before I heard TMV (2004, I think) I had no idea people were still making prog like this. Of course, I've since heard a number of other bands that made me aware what I was missing.
"I Am" - Novel
Closer :: Nine Inch Nails
I don't like NIN much, but this song takes me back in a lot of ways, and it's very 'slick'.
Styx- Come Sail Away. SMURFING. :bou::bou::bou::bou:. YES. THAT IS ALL.
Synops :: Karnivool
Not the even close to being the best song on Themata...which really just speaks for how smurfing amazing that album is. Has one of the most awesome gradual build-ups throughout the whole song. It's really rather awesome.
Dungen - Ta Det Lugnt
Cannibal Ox - Raspberry Fields
Scott Pilgrim soundtrack!
Ice Cube - What They Hittin Foe?
Ice Cube and the Bomb Squad was an inspired pairing to say the least.
Jim Sturgess - Revolution
One of my favourite Beatles songs and the focus of a great scene in Across the Universe.
Black Sheep - Metric
Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five - Dreamin'
I'm pretty daft for not listening to this group sooner. I'm amazed at how versatile they are, especially considering hip-hop was still in its infancy at this point. Then again some songs on this album aren't even hip-hop, such as this one.
Staind- So Far Away. You can tell a lot about what a person likes to listen to by what they post here.
Moonsorrow - Jäästä syntynyt/Varjojen virta
This is pretty much one of my favourite albums ever.
Uyama Hiroto - Ribbon in the Sea
Have pretty much skipped this song ever since I got his stuff because I didn't really like the first few seconds, then the other day I had it on in the background while I was doing stuff and damn, I've been missing out. Really beautiful song.
The Bed Intruder Song.
Because I'm in need of a good 'lul'. :)
Remove the Inside by Belong from the album October Language.
Beautiful soundscapes abound.
Little Boots - "The Remedy"
&
First Aid Kit. I like their music in general, but I really love this Fleet Foxes covered.
Moulin Rouge Soundtrack - Elephant Love Medley
My best friend and I are singing this for my school's showcase, so I'm getting in some practise! Haha.
Cee Lo Green :: F*** You
Just found this song randomly, but it's pretty freaking awesome.
Krallice - Monolith of Possession
Black metal at its most technical and hypnotic. There really isn't another group that sounds like Krallice; the only similar group I can think of is Liturgy but they don't stretch their songs out for nearly as long, so the overall effect is substantially different.
Apparently they're dropping another album this year. Looking forward to it.
Rio En Medio's Kill the Messenger
Freak-folk. Lonely, otherworldly, simple and alluring.
Emperor - Cosmic Keys to My Creations & Times
sometimes I just have to go back to the classics
Feeling Good - Muse
Use the new thread instead. I'm taking this one out! :shoot:
Tip of the Day: this is the longest thread we currently have!
Bjork. Glorious, glorious Bjork.
Again - Bruno Mars
Drudkh - The Day Will Come
solid new album, probably going to order the vinyl
Test Match Special - England v Pakistan (4th test, 3rd day)
WHAT A GAME
A Forest of Stars - Earth and Matter
Listening to my vinyl rip. Lovely album and I'm glad I own it. I hope the new one gets a wax release at some point; it's one of the strongest of the year so far. This band's two albums are pretty unique in metal; I don't really know anything else that sounds like them.
With Teeth - Nine Inch Nails
My favortie band ever!
Slide - The Dresden Dolls
Muse - Citizen Erased [Hullabaloo Soundtrack]
It's a shame the sound quality of the live disc is a bit subpar because the performances themselves are smurfing awesome and almost always outstrip their studio counterparts. Granted, cleaning it up with Clip Fix helped a bit (and it's not like most of the studio versions don't suffer from clipping as well), but the vocals still sound unnaturally tinny.
Citizen Erased is a great song. I don't understand those that say Muse is unworthy of attention.
The Mutts, Handcuffs, from their We Float EP.
Drunk and in concert with blues smoke.
yeah I don't either. Although I must say I was kind of indifferent to Muse until I heard their live stuff.
Ash Borer - Tour Rehearsal Demo Track 1
jesus I love this group even more than I did before. Think "Godspeed You! Black Emperor playing black metal" if you need a reference point. I hope they reprint the Fell Voices split because they sold out of it before I even heard they had copies, and Fell Voices isn't getting back to me about whether they have any copies in stock right now (I emailed them a few days ago).
If You Don't Wanna Love Me - James Morrison
Runnin - Lil Wayne
Every once in awhile it feels like I'm running but life's the miles.
Killswitch Engage - The End of Heartache
Watched RE:A recently, had to listen to it.
Superscription of Data - Eiko Shimamiya
How Can You Mend A Broken Heart - Al Green
I just want to live again.
Stolen - Dashboard Confessional.
I re-discovered them recently. :)
The Lonesome Kicker :: Adam Sandler
I don't know much about what album or whatever the song's from, but it's hilarious.
Stone Sour's new record Audio Secrecy, its awesome
Tired Of Being Sorry - Enrique Iglesias
He's so shrieky. It amuses me. :p
Joanna Newsom - Peach, Plum, Pear
Weirdest voice ever, but strangely appealing.
Hot Chip - I Feel Better
I only want one night.
This is the longest night.
YouTube - Oingo Boingo Dead Man's Party
I've been listening to this all day, this song rules.
Cold Reader :: Stone Sour
Just got into Stone Sour (always hated slipknot), only heard the first album so far but it's got some really awesome parts, and I love the guitar tones.
Girls Just Wanna Have Fun - Greg Laswell
It's so somber and freaky. o.o
I'm in a romantic mood, so I just put on "Della by Starlight", by Della Reese.
Song: The Touch of Your Lips
Bruno Mars - Just the way you are
I am in love with this song ♥
Kiss with a Fist - Florence and the Machine
This song is hilarious. 'You smashed a plate over my head, and I set fire to our bed..'
Lots of Of Montreal, which is superior to life. :colbert:
And Janelle Monae, who is also absolutely smurfing amazing.
Stinkfist :: Tool (Skinny Puppy remix)
I Just Want To - Reggie Watts
Luv Sic Pt 3 - Nujabes
Last Night On Earth - Green Day :p
See You On The Other Side -- BT
Karnivool :: Roquefort Acoustic
Probably my favourite band at the moment... and Australian :jess:
Electric Feel - MGMT
Say ooo girl, shock me like an electric eel.
Good one !
Angus & Julia Stone - Draw Your Swords
Warpaint :: Elephant
The Flyest - Nas featuring AZ
Want - Rufus Wainwright
I don't want to see the light. I just want to see the flashlight.
YouTube - Cherry Poppin' Daddies - Zoot Suit Riot (Full Length mp3 + Lyrics)
You can't not be in a good mood listening to this.
Adrift And At Peace - Nine Inch Nails
My favorite band ever... good song to chill out to.
One by metallica
through the fire and flames by dragonforce
its easy mkay by Mr. macky
Spring - The Innocence Mission
Been listening to an assortment of their songs actually since I just discovered them today even though they've been around for awhile.
I also like it.
Stratovarius - Infinity
Been looking at various songs, and found this one.
I like it
Aqualung :: Good Time's Gonna Come
SP - "In the Now"
Hot song. Might be editing the video for it.
Soundgarden :: Burden in my Hand
I don't know what the deal is with double posting in this thread but I'm getting sick of not being able to post what I'm listening to.
Guns n' Roses :: Locomotive
Blind Guardian - And Then There Was Silence
Killer finale to a great album!
Phish - You Enjoy Myself
Between the Buried and Me - Fossil Genera: A Feed from Cloud Mountain
Iron Maiden - Blood On The World's Hands
A Swan Song (For Nina) :: Clint Mansell - Black Swan OST
Della Reese - Billy My Love
Such a funky tune, with an amazing vocal performance. :D
Tiesto - Elements of Life
They remixed one of my favorite songs from an animation. Wasn't sure how I would take to this. I usually go through phases of listening to one genre of music more than an another. I've shuffled through a lot of indie rock and house during the summer now I'm back to my roots...HIP HOP! Need some new stuff to listen to. Well, stuff that's new to me. Anyone know any good rappers aside from mainstream? I'm already familiar with a few underground people, but I'm definitely in the dark here.
Crystal Castles - Celestica
Such a pretty song.
Sanctuary - White Rabbit
Trapt - Only Through The Pain
Great record start to finish I've had it on almost constant repeat for the past 2 weeks
When you came over to me and said to tell me...
If you're alone tonight
Can I be by your side?
Hey Baby, if we're having fun tonight
Little Rocket in the Sky
Sittle Rocket in the Sky
Tell me...
Was a rocket in the sky,
I'm a Rocket in the Sky
Don't ask me why...
No Secrets - I'll Remember you
The Decemberists, The King is Dead
Heard 'Em Say - Kanye West
Carina Round :: Sit Tight
Lupe Fiasco - Gold Watch
Blindsided - Bon Iver
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LrIz0KCq1YA
Nightwish - Last of the Wilds
Good instrumental song. Really pretty, and sorta reminds me of a Xenogears song.
The Who - Eminence Front
Karnivool :: Umbra
Mentioned it to someone, and now it's stuck in my head.
From Ashes Rise-The Noise
Ayreon - The Sixth Extinction
"Everything I once had" ; The Honorary Title
Someone watching over me
traveling by hikaru utada
A Life Without Parole - Dhsu
