Vincent is not useless. Not that I have used him once this playthrough... He does good for long range fighting. The only useless thing aobut him is his Limit Breaks. And in the Temple there are a lot of places you dont actually get to go. There's even a staircase that leads to a wall that always pissed me off.

Vincent has the lowest statgrowths in the game, Yuffie and Barret make him obselete.

It's not the Supershot ST. But you're thinking along the right lines.
