Jacob had his name because he grabbed his elder brother's ankle as they both came out of their mother's womb. It has nothing to do with the (literral) fact he later on wrestled with an angel. After that, his name got changed to Yisra'el, or Israel, meaning something along the lines of 'being with God', as almost an equal, to be in the presence of God.
