wholy crap that could actually be right, i hope so, cause its the 1000th post, that would be symbolic
Ah, too bad. This riddle is hard
Edit: thegirths signature is feckin hilarious lol
yeah i think its a Chris Rock quote
Haha, yeah, lots of bonus points for the creative answer. Neither AP nor experience is right though.
The riddle talks about feelings rather than actual items or spoils in the game.
Horror?
REPOST:
I am what you get from a Vysage fight
What the Geezard does from morning to night
me is what you'll find in an Elnoyle room
What the coward gets when facing his doom
Not horror. Not too far, however, from the meaning of the correct word in some of the lines.
Petrification?
Nope.
Wrong guesses thus far: death, Exeter, death in space, death in blue cheese, AP, STATUS EFFECTS, heavy breathing, screaming, crying, silence, sleep, stare, sigh, laughter, anything overly abstract, bite, crawl, eat dirt, the ground, teabagging, MAGIC, dirtnap, disappear, creep, slide, drag, bobbing and shaking, VERBS (except for the second line), sliver, dance, victory, ozostomia, dying, experience, a pee, horror, and petrification.
Is the answer a gerund or any other type of derivative or a synonym of any of the previous guesses? Also, does the answer involve verbal irony, i.e., homophony?
The answer could be said to be another form of one of the previously guessed words, yes. The different lines does result in the same word, spelled exactly the same.
Something to do with crawling on the floor almost dead?
The answer, and the answer to one of the lines, has something to do with a kind of crawling. Death has no particular relevance to the riddle.
Sleeping? xD
Nope. :p
Not quite sure how a form of crawling relates to all the lines.
Groveling?
Well, it's a word that has several possible meanings. Try some kind of synonym for crawl.
The word has pretty much been said already, but with the wrong ending (which is important enough to falsify it).
Creeps? With an S ending?
They're monsters in the game as well as a synonym for crawling and a feeling of foreboding.
Correct!
I am what you get from a Vysage fight -> If you'd encounter a vysage for real, the creeps is likely what you'd get.
What the Geezard does from morning to night -> The Geezard creeps.
me is what you'll find in an Elnoyle room -> Here, creeps is a descriptive word for the Elnoyles. Elnoyle room = A room full of Elnoyles = A room full of creeps.
What the coward gets when facing his doom -> Same meaning as the first line, a coward would get the creeps when his doom is coming.
And as you say, the game element referenced (and hence the answer) is the enemy Creeps.
The Elnoyle line was a bit vague. xD But well done BG-57
Exactly what did that have to do with the number 100?
100 in roman numerals is C, which is the first letter of the answer. It was a half joke hint in response to "I'd like to buy a wovel", but a valid one nonetheless.
I was thinking of Creeps a lot earlier but Creep was already guessed and wrong.
Pervasive but immaterial
Heard only but one time
A question of identity
Does he want an answer?
If creep was guessed as a lone guess I would probably have given it right, but it was one out of three guesses in the same post without any reasoning. I did say about that post, however, that "one of your guesses is so close I'm surprised you didn't see it". Sorry if I upset anyone.
Enough about that though. The immediate thought that strikes me is Bahamut and his questions before the fight. He doesn't show up physically before the fight, but his voice can be "heard". He questions your motives, and so your identity. The last line could be referring to that you have to choose the invisible option at the last question.
But Bahamut is too obvious, isn't he? :)
Griever?
Let's try something a bit less obvious then. The astronaut Rinoa passes when heading out to Adel's tomb? He says something like "Huh? Who is that?", which is a question of identity. The voice is "heard" (pervasive), although voices can't really be heard in a vacuum (immaterial) environment.
You only hear him speak once, I think, unless that's Laguna. I don't rightly remember. I guess it could be questioned if he really wants an answer, since he just keeps on going instead of trying to find out.
Tiamat?
I would guess Ultimecia, but the riddle says "he," so I'm guessing young Squall at the orphanage whenever he asks Edea who grown-up Squall is. It takes up when time is all screwy, so it makes sense.
It's not Tiamat or Squall.
Hint'He' is referring to Griever.
Shockwave Pulsar, then?
Nope.
Squall?
I'd guess Squall's ring but the whole immaterial thing wouldn't make much sense >.o
REPOST:
Pervasive but immaterial
Heard only but one time
A question of identity
Does he want an answer?
If "he" is Griever, then what is the riddle asking? Is the answer the question? My next guess would be Rinoa, because she asks Squall to name the ring.
So I did get Rantziens riddle right!
Damn you three guess answer. H8 U
Going for the obvious I know but Ultimecia?
Not Ultimecia.
Lion?
The Ring, Squall, Rinoa and Ultimecia are the only other ones I can think that relate to Griever
perhaps the final battle against griever?
The Ultimate GF? O.o
No.
HintIt's something you encounter at the same time as Griever.
When you use Lion heart or a move that kills Greiver in 1 hit then he only uses Shockwave Pulsar once before dying.
Helix
is it just the final battle in general
loll...'The legendary beast' which is the song playing while you fight griever. IM RIGHT!
It's a song, but a different one.
Repost:
Pervasive but immaterial
Heard only but one time
A question of identity
Does he want an answer?
The song that plays in the whole identity crisis thing of cloud?
That would be FFVII...this is FFVIII.
Maybe I'm A Lion
We have a winner! :D
Your go Comet.
Yay! Ok, I just made it up in like 5 minutes but still...get ready:
There is a limit
Maybe caused by a presence?
Your artistic skills
In religious places
Fisherman's Horizon
Odin.
No and no.
The battle with Adel when Rinoa is attached to her. The limit would be referring to the types of attacks you can use without killing Rinoa.
The Centra ruins where Odin dwells
There is a limit - the time limit
Maybe caused by a presence? - stays there while odin is in that room
Your artistic skills - switching the eyes on the statue
In religious places - Centra is an ancient place blah blah blah
No to both.
There is a limit
Maybe caused by a presence?
Your artistic skills
In religious places
Hint: (SPOILER)It is not a place and it is not an event
Final Heaven? Being a limit break, aka "limit". And, uh, heaven is a religious place. :shifty:
Good guess, but no. Getting closer though.
Armageddon Fist?
is it My Final Heaven (not that im gonna be right just getting technical about it, but just thought i would give it a try)
Rinoa's Angel Wing Limit Break
Sorry guys...all wrong!
Hint: (SPOILER)Not a limit break
I wanna something with the Shumi Tribe quest, no idea why.
Nothing to do with Shumi quest.
The Holy spell. You can only draw 100 of it per character.
Rinoa's Pinwheel?
Not the holy spell, and not Rinoas pinwheel
does the line about artistic skills refer to drawing?
Omega Weapon? O,o
Is it related to the artist in Dollet? The one that makes cards?
It's not Omega Weapon and it has nothing to do with cards or Dollet, but thegirth is right about the artistic line:
There is a limit
Maybe caused by a presence?
Your artistic skills - Drawing
In religious places
By drawing, I assume you mean the act of putting a marking utensil to paper and creating an image as opposed to sucking up magic?
no, im sure its a play on words
Yeah it's a pun.
Something to do with the draw points on island closest to heaven or hell
YES!
There is a limit
Maybe caused by a presence?
Your artistic skills - Drawing
In religious places - In Island Closest To Hell And Heaven
Is that the final answer or just a solved line?
Anybody for just moving on? It's been a long time.
Fine by me. Want a go?
Naw, I'm not inspired right now. eiko guy was the closest to the answer, so if he wants to, he should have a turn.
I'm sorry guys...my computer JUST came back from the repair shop...it was completely messed up. But I'm back now. Anyway:
That wasn't the final answer, just one line help.
It seems that the legacy of the riddles is slowly coming to an end...that is very sad indeed. As no one has started a new riddle, and Comet's is still unsolved, shall it be continued? At least one line has been solved. XD Knowing BG I thought he'd get it by now. XP
Sorry, I've been distracted with the Cid's Knight contest. :p
Hmm, it makes me think of the UFO subquest for some reason.
Is it Enc-None?
There is a limit
Maybe caused by a presence?
Your artistic skills - Drawing
In religious places - In Island Closest To Hell And Heaven
No it's none of the above.
Ultima?
Or Ultima weapon(you know, the one in the secret base)
the Aura spell?
Aura sounds likely.
YES CAVEROAMER IT IS AURA!
There is a limit - Aura allows you to use limit breaks
Maybe caused by a presence? - Another word for "Aura" is "Presence"
Your artistic skills - Drawing
In religious places - In Island Closest To Hell And Heaven
Your turn!
Someone else can give it a shot.
Can't think of anything atm
Caveroamer Are you sure???????????
Well if no one else is gonna step up............
A twist of penance,
high and below.
An adjustment you'll get,
if in the right room you go.
The spiral of life,
where time goes so slow.
Not haste nor stop,
are the right way to go.
:mog:
time compression?
sorry, its late and my brains not working properly
The clock tower in Ultemicia's castle?
The Deep Sea Deposit.
OMG I nearly forgot the answer LOL. I had to sit and work it out:rolleyes2.
Anyhoo I remember now. ReloadPsi, BG-57, The Last Oath. Wrong, sorry. It is a place though. :mog:
Clock Puzzle Room?
Either no-one has a guess or ya all gonna let this thread die. Either way, in the interests of keeping the best (by far) riddle thread going heres a clue::mog:
(SPOILER)Only one of your party wants to go there.
Sounds like the Deep Sea Research Center (DSRC), which Zell is strangely knowledgeable about.
Is it Deiling City in the dream world??
Is it the room underneath garden that squall has to climb up to himself and open the big circular "spiral" thing?
Nope, nope and nope. :mog:
The missile base?
Not the missile base. :mog:
I thought this would have been guessed quite quick because I give a lot away in the first line.
Repost:

I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess trabia garden. If I am right I doubt I will be around to post another riddle so someone else can go.
Not Trabia either.:mog:
Is it Lunatic Pandora?
Nope not Lunatic Pandora either.:mog:
Edit - (Rather than a double post) Another clue Rinoa is the only one who "wants" to go there. Also all of the playable characters (including L, K and W and Edea and Seifer) have been to this place and Ward could possibly be described as wanting to be there, if only for the money, Edea for the info. I've given it away now, I must have done.
Right. If no one is gonna guess I'll give the answer. but please.... for the love of god... someone... keep this thread going.
Its the desert prison. I think now you know the answer, most of the lines make sense but I'll explain anyway.
A twist of penance, (Twist = shape. Penance = the repentance of sins, which you would be doing in prison)
high and below. (The prison goes above and below ground)
An adjustment you'll get, (battle meter adjustment)
if in the right room you go. (only one room you can get the battle meter adjustment in)
The spiral of life, ( Life refers to Life in prison)
where time goes so slow. (Obviously if your in prison time would drag)
Not haste nor stop,
are the right way to go.(There is a magic field in the prison where you cant use magic so, haste and stop are useless):mog:
Someone else have a go then.
Use me, I dare you,
There be no penalty.
Use me, yellow lady,
If your magic is few.
Your wings hold me,
I never stop.
I can be better,
if only you use three.
Rinoa's Angel Wing limit break?
Selphies limit
Bwah! my threads dying, I'm gonna have to spice it up somehow...
Rantzien got it, Rinoa's limit. Your go.
[strike]If someone else wants to, they can go. Otherwise I'll post one soon.[/strike] New riddle posted below.
This is my reasoning:
Use me, I dare you,
There be no penalty. -> You don't lose spells by using it
Use me, yellow lady,
If your magic is few. -> If you only have a few spells it doesn't matter
Your wings hold me, -> "Angel wing"
I never stop. -> Stays until the end of the battle
I can be better,
if only you use three. -> If Rinoa only has three powerful spells, she will only use them and hence make the limit better.
Not sure about what "yellow lady" means.
Here's my riddle:
Left my robe and egressed, westbound
Gathered courage, then, and left ground
Now host of tricks of greatest power
Host of the outcast and half a flower
I said "Yellow lady" as a referance to limits, only being able to use them when low on health.
I'm going to guess the queen of cards?
It's not the Queen of Cards.
Edea.
Not Edea.
Garden? Lol I am really scrambling at a guess on this one
It's not Garden. I recommend trying to pick the riddle apart, thinking aloud.
Ragnarok?
the island closet to hell?
Wow, this thread is still going. Sweetness. ^_^
No one is right so far.
HintThe answer is a person.
Ellone?
Nope! :)
Rinoa Left my robe and egressed, westbound -these first 2 lines i have no clue Gathered courage, then, and left ground Now host of tricks of greatest power- Rinoa, inheirited sorcerressness Host of the outcast and half a flower- i seem to remember her turning a petal into a feather or something, and see above
It's not Rinoa. "half a flower" is the only really abstract part of the riddle.
Squall when he acquires the Brothers. My reasoning:
Left my robe and egressed, westbound << I think this happened not long after he became a SeeD, so he stopped wearing his uniform. Deling City is to the west.
Gathered courage, then, and left ground << You don't have to go further into the Tomb of the Unknown King than the student's ID#, but if you do, you can fight the Brothers. Using float ("left ground") helps, since they use spells like Quake.
Now host of tricks of greatest power << You win the Brothers GF.
Host of the outcast and half a flower << They were outcasts, and one of them was small.
Very nice reasoning, but the answer is incorrect.
The second stanza is more down to earth, it describes three things the answer is host of. The first stanza describes a series of events from the history of the answer, but "left ground" does not refer to going airborne.
Left my robe and egressed, westbound
Gathered courage, then, and left ground
Now host of tricks of greatest power
Host of the outcast and half a flower
Wrong guesses:
Queen of cards
Edea
Garden
Ragnarok
Island Closest to Heaven/Hell
Ellone
Rinoa
Squall acquiring Brothers
Hints:
The answer is a person
How about Edea?
Left my robe and egressed, westbound (Maternal robe perhaps and headed to Galbadia, west(ish), from Centra)
Gathered courage, then, and left ground (Planned for the future by setting up SeeD with Cid, knowing thier purpose would be to kill her, before she left)
Now host of tricks of greatest power (Now possessed by Ulty)
Host of the outcast and half a flower (Outcast = Squall and half a flower = SeeD):mog:
Nope, Edea has already been guessed.
a moomba?
Not a moomba.
white seeds?
Nope. Remember that the answer is one person.
I'm at a loss, so I'm going to guess Laguna, because the second line reminds me of the time he finally approached Julia.
ochu
Is it Doomtrain?
No, not Laguna, Ochu or Doomtrain. Again, the answer is a person. The person didn't leave ground metaphorically, either. :)
It's Adel!
It's not! :p
If "left ground" isn't a metaphor or referring to becoming airborn, then does it refer to turning to the left? Are we channelling Beyonce or playing a game of Mad Gab?
...OH! This person went onto the WATER!!
Is it Nida, the guy who steered the Garden?
President Deling
random guess
Random guess: Selphie?
Selphie?
I doupt Selphie actually fell in the water.
We saw the robot take a plundge...
Selphie was said already
Mayor Dobe?
Mayor Dobe used to be an Estharian (donning of a robe...) but he left Esthar to be the founder of Fisherman's Horizon.
Edit: half a flower = his wife Flo
hey, not bad at all.
Makes sense, the host of tricks of greatest power part means his cards, and host of the outcast... I don't remember that part, haven't played through 8 in forever.
FH's residents are all a bunch of "outcasts" from Esthar. If you did the Master Fisherman sidequest, he explains all about Mayor Dobe and FH's history.
Mayor Dobe is correct!
Left my robe and egressed, westbound
As an Estharian, he wore a robe, but presumably left it as he left Esthar. He went west over the transcontinental bridge.
Gathered courage, then, and left ground
Together with his comrades he founded FH, in the ocean.
Now host of tricks of greatest power
In his house, there is an Ultima draw point.
Host of the outcast and half a flower
Galbadia Garden's former headmaster, Martine, resides at Dobe's place after being shut out of GG. Dobe's wife is named Flo which is half the word 'flower'.
Your go, pyrefly maiden!
i like the reasoning behind the last line. v.nice
God I'm bad at this.
Prince on white stallion I am not
But should ever my power be sought
By ones who prove themselves worthy
I shall not hesitate to bring my hand
Down on any threats I deem necessary
Only to the fallen knight's blade I fall
>.> I think the answer's rather obvious.
Odin
Gilgamesh?
Has to be Odin. Fallen Knight is a reference to Seifer. And the lines accurately describe the way Odin appears at random.
Odin sounds right
Yes Odin. Hyperion4444 your turn :D
Damn.
I don't feel like writting riddles...
I'll give it away with an easy one.
Many refer to me as a Giant, even a God.
Metal is my Armor, Black is one of my nature.
I am lethal at close range.
The holder of the Hearth of a Lion.
Can renew dreams, like in the past of ten years.
My look may not reflect my capacities.
Half the name of the god is the clue to my identity
This one's pretty easy, enjoy.
Umm Diablos?
Tonberry.
iron giant?
nope nope and nope
Umm I thought someone would haved guessed it on the first try..
guess not. :)
More fun for us!
It can be difficult to figure out what it is...
I'll add more clues later.
But the next time I make a riddle, I'll keep it from 4 to 5 lines and add additional lines as hint and clues instead.
Catoblepas?
Griever?
Lionheart (the weapon)?
no no and no
hint:
Many refer to me as a Giant, even a God. (Myth)
Metal is my Armor, Black is one of my nature.
I am lethal at close range.
The holder of the Hearth of a Lion... (Connects with the next line)
Can renew dreams, like in the past of ten years. (Can be tought)
My look may not reflect my capacities.
Half the name of the god is the clue to my identity
Didn't realised it was so complicated.
:)
Bahamut?
ultimate weapon
No
No
Tell me if you want me to add a hint.
Minotaur brothers. Forgot the name.
Yeah, Minotaur and Sacred are their names, but I think it sounds more like Eden, or maybe Siren, but i don't know.
I dunno ... Ifrit?
no no and no
hint:
Many refer to me as a Giant, even a God. (Myth)
Metal is my Armor, Black is one of my nature.
I am lethal at close range.
The holder of the Hearth of a Lion...
Can renew dreams, like in the past of ten years.
My look may not reflect my capacities.
Half the name of the god is the clue to my identity
Behold my might in the palm of your hand. (New)
It's not: Tonberry, Diablo, Iron Giant, Catoblepas, Greiver, Bahamut, Ultimate Weapon, Sacred, Minotaur, nor Ifrit. I'll take your first guess and it's not Eden.
There's a new obvious line up there that should help.
Tiamat?
Ulysses? (haha shot in the wild)
Nope, sorry, no cigars.
The Magic Lamp with Diablo inside it but I am also thinking Solomon Ring.
A gunblade?
Wendigo.
Odin?
It's not Diablo with Magical Lamp nor Solomon ring.
It 's not Odin nor Wendigo.
.....
Many refer to me as a Giant, even a God. (Myth) - The lion on the gunblade
Metal is my Armor, Black is one of my nature. - Made of metal, squall is dressed in black.. punishment is also black
I am lethal at close range. - speaks for itself
The holder of the Hearth of a Lion - Can be remodled into Lion Heart
Can renew dreams, like in the past of ten years - When it comes flying out of the sky
My look may not reflect my capacities - Revolver looks poor but can be changed into powerful weapons
Half the name of the god is the clue to my identity - Lion
Behold my might in the palm of your hand. (New) - You can hold it
Lion Heart or a gunblade
Umm Hyperion?
Many refer to me as a Giant, even a God. (Myth) - Hyperion is a Titan which is sometimes referred to as a giant
Metal is my Armor, Black is one of my nature. - the lower part is black
I am lethal at close range. - speaks for itself
The holder of the Hearth of a Lion - Not sure, hearth is associated with a place that holds fire...the fire spells Seifer cast at Squall in the beginning?
Can renew dreams, like in the past of ten years - ? His dreams to become sorceress knight is fulfilled?
My look may not reflect my capacities - Looks plainer than Squall's gunblades
Half the name of the god is the clue to my identity - not sure about this
Behold my might in the palm of your hand. (New) - You can hold it
