Also 6 games? I don't know what you've been looking at but XBOX Live is about €59.99 a year and around £30 a year in the UK - so unless your buying 6 ancient used PS2 games for €6 each I sincerely doubt you're losing out on 6 games! Granted it's still like the price of one new game though.

The fact that a console can actually do the multi-tasking and provide some of the convenience I enjoy from my PC is something I actually see as a good thing. Being able to have a docked Skype video conference window so I can see how my friends react to something is already something we do on PC as it is when we've played stuff like L4D together.

As for the whole Smart TV thing - in Ireland these are still relatively new and very expensive. A console that can provide that functionality makes it accessible to people at a lower price point for their existing TV. Sure for people who just care about games it's all superfluous - but the trends in consumer electronics these days show that consumers want things that provide connectivity with all their devices. Sure it's a bit of a flip on the head where consumerism for the past 60 odd years has been constantly advertising at us that we must own this and that and the other and now to suddenly have all that functionality in one place - it's a break of the norm.

As for the hardware specifications debate, the PS3 had better hardware too - but in the long run it's not like that made a huge amount of difference when most publishers develop titles to be published on 360, PS3 and PC which means they need something that works across all of them.

And really the whole TV and ESPN thing, I doubt they would've even bothered going down that road if people weren't doing that already on the 360s current TV offerings.http://i.imgur.com/ajOedJg.jpg

At the end of the day the games will decide, and we'll see more from both Sony and Microsoft at E3.

Actually, they're still up 6-7% at the time I'm making this post, so I'm not sure how "most has already dropped off" - 3% isn't most. MS is still higher, certainly, but a 6-7% increase is a substantial change. To whoever said it's because of things aside from the conference, I'd love to know what those things were that happened at the exact same time as the conference.

I don't buy Xbox Live on a yearly basis, Danielle and I never know if we're going to be interested so we paid it month-by-month. £9 each per month at GAME. You're right that I could get it for less, apologies for any confusion, I was going by what I would pay for a month and then simply multiplying it. With two people having to pay in order for us to both go online on the one console (which is stupid, by the way), it kind of sucks balls that we have to pay for something which is 100% free on the PS3. Anyone who thinks that Xbox Live is still leaps and bounds ahead of PSN hasn't been keeping up with PSN's improvements over the years.

For the Smart TV thing, I'm not even talking about Smart TV, I'm talking about on demand services available from Virgin, Sky and others. I'm not really sure how this thing compares, but it's not something I care about in my console because I don't use my console to watch TV. I use Sky.

As for Skype, I can only really say what appeals to me, and I have no interest in video calling people while I game. If other people do, I'm sure this is a great thing for them, but I seem to recall something similar being punted out on the PS4 (and I didn't care for it on the PS4, either).

You're right - it'll be the games that make the difference, but the developers will make the games for the consoles that sell big. Do I want to have to buy two consoles? No. I'm honestly hoping one or the other crashes and burns, and based on what I've seen, I'm kind of hoping it's the Xbox One because the PS4 so far seems a lot more interesting to me. If they both succeed, I'll probably buy both but I don't expect to be playing online on the Xbox One if I have to pay to do so. That's just such an archaic model to me when PC gaming online has always been a free thing, as with PS4 online gaming, and for me they all deliver an even experience. If the PS4 starts charging for it's network, too, I'm gonna be gutted. :( But yeah, we'll just have to wait for E3. The good thing for MS is they don't have to do as much to improve on what they've already shown, while Sony got a positive reaction from gamers and it'll be interesting to see how they can top that. Easier to improve when you're low than when you're high, after all.

Yeah this was mostly meant toward Vivi. But the idea behind ONE which I think a lot of people are misunderstanding is it's not a separate TV service. It uses your existing one. So if you have Sky your Sky box (or probably even just the cable itself) can connect to your XBOX One and then you can watch it using the XBOX One rather than having to use the remote to switch between HDMI1 and HDMI2 on your TV. It's rather superfluous for most people I agree but it's still pretty handy.

You seem to have one of those friends lists that are in Netflix alot more than they really game, lol. If that is from yours. However I agree with you entirely. We will indeed see what is really what come E3.

I already stated we are overdue for a few Rare titles. Like Conquer, Banjo Kazooie and Perfect Dark. Also On the bright side Microsoft was able to keep a lid on everything right up to the reveal. Which I happy pat them on their back for. Also a fun fact since I work with game design as a job, I've had the pleasure of talking and working with the Xbox Team back in 2007 and they are all pretty nice and very intelligent folks. I also thought that Xbox One was going to be the 360's name when they did the E3 reveal back in 2005. This was cause of how they kept heavily hinting the 360 as the "one" piece that does it all, the media device for you and your family and so on. (If I find a clip I will post it and you might see why I thought so like I said)

Anyway the X1 definitely has got me wanting it, it looks very sexy ... and for me it also has integrated Skype. Which is something I've always wanted as a Skype user. This will make calls easier to manage and I wont miss them, additionally everyone on my Live Friends list will now be able to play things like D&D 3.5 cause of the Kinect being apart of the Xbox One experience. Which has me feeling pretty ecstatic.

I own all three major consoles from the prior/current generation, the Wii, Xbox 360, and PS3. I do like the Xbox 360, but that's mainly because of Japanese franchises like Resident Evil, Street Fighter, and Final Fantasy. That being said, Microsoft, and Sony for that matter, are going more and more down the road of only being a gaming vehicle for first person shooters like Call of Duty and Halo. I'm really not interested in these games. I'm becoming more of a Nintendo man more and more lately, because at least they still have fun franchises like Mario and Zelda. I'm afraid that we're going to get to the point where Japanese gaming is completely shut out from the West, apart from on a few consoles e.g. Wii U, 3DS. The other day I read reviews of Metal Gear Solid 4, where people were complaining that the game was "too Japanese" lol. MGS4 is the most Western influenced MGS game I've played in my life. I find it laughable that people would say its "too Japanese." Imagine if someone said a game was too Japanese in the 90s or early 2000s. People would laugh at them. Its just a sad state of affairs really. I really do miss the classic gaming era of the late 80s/90s/and early 2000s.

Backwards compatibility is less of a big deal than I think people assume. Yeah it was great to have in a few consoles but it's technically unfeasible to have at a realistic cost point. Generally speaking it was a pretty short-lived trend - the only "truly" BC consoles were the PS2 and Wii. The 360 and PS3 had something of an emulation layer that was really poorly supported and even was removed from later PS3 models. Honestly, considering how damning the overall presentation was for the One, I think the lack of BC is a silly one to get up in arms about.

As for the rest, it's a joke for gamers but I still think they're gonna move hella units on the living room features. I see it as being this gen's Wii in terms of mass appeal and use for either casual gaming or no gaming whatsoever (remember, the Wii was and may still be the #1 most used device for streaming Netflix). I have absolutely no interest in this box. Most likely I'll do what I have been doing - a Sony console and a PC, and I'm even on the fence about the Sony console depending on the exclusives. With my PC set up in the living room with a wireless KB+M and a 360 controller, I don't even feel like I really need a console. I'd just be really sad to miss out on the amazing exclusives. Uncharted, MGS4 and Little Big Planet were what made the PS3 absolutely worth the cash for me.

Meanwhile, there have been exactly 0 exclusives on any MS system that have been worth buying the system for. I know a lot of people prefer it for the online and the general service they provide, and those people will still probably buy the One. But I also believe enough people have been alienated by MS's move to casual-ify the console that this won't see the same explosive adoption that the 360 did, at least not by serious gamers.

Oh, yeah. Xbox Live. It used to be worth the money, because the quality of online gaming was so much higher on the 360 than the PS3. That changed a few years back, though, so now it's just the company :bou::bou::bou::bou:ily refusing people to use what they've already paid for unless they keep paying more. It's particularly smurfing annoying because most people who are interested in games consoles don't want to pay for Netflix, Skype, Sky, CBeebies etc just to play their games fully.

The main issue with the "one shoe to fit all" (oh, so that's where they got that stupid name!), is that it's not true and everybody already owns all the other shoes they need or want. If they don't own them, they don't want them. Nobody is going to look at the 3 and think "Oh, smurf me, I've always wanted to watch TV. I think I'll fork over a veritable smurfload of money and hassle."

Though seriously, it is too early to judge. I mean E3 is around the corner and they have yet to announce a release date. So there is still time to change some things or to reconsider some features.

I think people are over reacting about the TV content, since most consoles do that anyways now. I rather think about it as a secondary bonus. Though, to be honest I think that trying to sell it as that before a gaming console is rather foolish. They should emphasis more on their gaming line, which they will likely do at E3.

Yeah, I'm expecting a very strong E3 from MS, as much as I hope it sucks. xD
