To be quite honest, Avril's songs have always annoyed me. She's not a particularly good vocalist and whether she writes her songs are not, the lyrics aren't anything special either.

Like many others, it's her attitude that gets to me. Sure, she lies a lot. Contradicts herself quite often. What really gets me, though, is her super-inflated ego. She thinks she's some kind of musical superstar. Her main fan-base is pre-teen girls. Her music is pop whether she'll admit it or not. She's no better than Mrs. Spears. She is a Mrs. now, right? I could have sworn I heard something about her getting married.

Either way, overall she's just an annoying person with no real redeeming qualities that give me any reason to respect or even remotely like her or her music.

Besides, spelling Sk8ter Boi like a ten-year-old AOLer is hardly punk. In fact, it's degrading. She should be ashamed of herself.

Maybe in years to come she'll realize what she is and then actually develope some real style and become a half decent musician. That, however, is highly unlikely.

This thread has grown to be very amusing.

I don't like labeling at all, in general, whether it be Avril or Sid or your mom, so I don't really have anything else to say. I just don't like fakes.

I label Shlup as being correct.

My basic point was that in a way, she was like Sid Vicious because she is where she is because of how she acted and what she did, not because she had talent, which you picked up on. Whatever the specifics of what Sid did are irrelevant there though, because it comes down to the same thing even if she respects authority or whatever. So hearing Avril touted as a great artist/songwriter is equally annoying because she has everything "co-written", and has said in two different interviews that a) she wrote all the songs on Let Go herself at a young age, and b) said they were co-written in another one. Though I'd be bloody astounded if anyone who actually got paid to help her wrote the verse lyrics for Don't Tell Me on the second album, for instance.

So my beef is with the poser thing, and passing yourself off to clueless individuals as something you blatantly aren't (though I doubt Sid himself made any claims about musical greatness, he's not that great an example because it's more others who hyped him than himself), not with punk in general, if that's how the Sid Vicious comment came off.

Agreed, and well said. I certainly share that same annoyance.

If Avril Lavigne wishes to smurf up her career with that stuff she calls music, that's her business--sooner or later people will get fed up with her and stop liking her.

However, her insistence on butchering other peoples' good songs (like Chop Suey!) gives me a strong desire to inflict grevious bodily harm.

Hehe, he was talking about Britney Spears. He just wasn't sure if she was married or not.

Anyways, I agree with anyone that has negative things to say about her. =)
