You're forgetting 'Stevie g' has ceased to exit
Well, looks like Walter Smith is managing Everton again the way we're playing at the moment.
What a beautiful day.
I knew you guys would prove useful one day.
I love it when the forces of good triumph over the forces of evil. :)
I think we'll lose the first leg of the CL game 1-0, the league game 3-0, and either beat them 1-0 and go through on penalties or beat 'em 2-0 or 3-1 at Anfield. PUT MONEY ON IT.
I suppose I could get used to the idea of having you around.
This is a very fine result indeed. :)
Oh, Newcastle United. What has happened to you?!
THIS IS ANFIELD
Take care all.
Yes yes Liverpool won, but the most important thing tonight was that Michael Thomas was on TV. Did you see him, Cz? He's aged so well!
I don't want to play Arsenal ever again because my heart can't take it and oh smurf Chelsea why why why why why why. But yeah great game, I guess this is what happens when two very good and evenly matched teams collide.
In conclusion, I like Martin Skrtel.I don't know what the smurf I am talking about. :p
Game of the season imho
I found the first half of the game boring at times, but the second half was smurfing quality.
I actually cheered when that penalty was given. Arsenal aren't going to win anything for another season. Wonderful.
The amount of close-ups of Steven Gerrard makes me so happy.
Wow, what a game! The rest of Europe will bow to the Premier League after seeing that display on the grand stage.
A victory for Liverpool & the premiership tonight.
The problem with playing against a team of illiterates is that they don't know how to read a script. Theo's assist should have been it. But no, another failed season for us, and a hundred and eighty minutes of Chelsea - Liverpool as compensation. Woo. :(
Plus extra time and penalties. Of course.
With Torres in the fold, I think this one will be decided before extra time, one way or the other.
Take care all.
Well there goes the title! Chelsea were apparently pretty sluggish, too. 30-goal Torres (And 21-goal Stevie G!) might just increase their tallies.
...or they'll screw us with a false penalty again. :-/
Man they've got to move than Chelsea/Man Utd game forward
Nah, it's perfectly timed. We lost the title to Chelsea and our players had to give them the guard of honour (or whatever it is) because they won it on the day we played them. I think it's high time Chelsea lost at home in the league, and if we manage it, it will be their turn. A shame it's not at Old Trafford and with that in mind it wouldn't be too bad if we won it later on against West Ham (I think that's our only home game left)... but I'd still rather beat Chelsea.
Perfectly timed, really. The only downside I can think of aside from the whole not-at-home thing is that the players might get trashed and feel like the season is sorted just a couple of days before a semifinal second leg in the CL.
Still, it will probably end up being a draw at Stamford. Sadly, I can just see that happening...
You want to see your team conserve their strength for European issues, fair play.
But the rest of us would rather see the crucial make-or-break happen at that very game. I just think it's a letdown if such a mouth-watering tie should be a dead-rubber or something not far from it. In hindsight scheduling that fixture a month earlier would have done it more justice
Everton would've beaten Chelsea at home last season had it not been a dodgy offside decision. I forget whether Everton lost a goal or Chelsea gained a goal from it, but either way we should've won!
It's not a dead rubber, in fact it could well be a title-decider. If it wasn't for Chelsea choking against Wigan, it would be even more so a title decider. These things should happen at the deciding time of the season. It would be a terrible shame if all the big four games were played with over a month to spare, leaving the title to be decided by how well each team does against Derby and Wiga-- er, well, you know what I mean.
As a fan of one of the teams involved, I love it. I hated it when it was a dead rubber last time around, but this time I'm really looking forward to it. I don't think either manager will be conserving all their players for Europe. They have so many players to pick from that they can rotate and still have class players in all three games. I'm sure there may be one or two players that might be viewed as not the bees knees, but it won't be to the extent of Liverpool/Arsenal where they have to throw players in on debut. The squads that Chelsea and United have are able to manage in these kind of situations.
How depressing. We seem to have gone into self-destruct mode since the Fiorentina game which was - arguably - our performance of the season.
Fulham - Loss
West Ham - Draw (should've been a win but for a bad offside decision)
Liverpool - Loss
Derby - Win
Chelsea - Loss
I just hope we can hold on to fifth because we've had a great season by and large and I would absolutely hate us to miss out on Europe when we've played so well on the whole. We just need a bigger squad. Still, Arsenal are in free-fall too, so with a bit of luck we might beat them? But I'm really not holding me breath. It's imperative that we beat Villa and Newcastle.
I see Grant is joining Rafa in the sulky manager interview game.
As you can imagine, I'm the happiest girl in the world right now. :jess:!
Ugh! Yet again they snatch an undeserved draw. And people call scousers thieves! We should've put the game and tie to bed long before it happened though, so I guess we have only ourselves to blame for that. Hopefully United give them a physically intense game while we rest our main players, then in the second leg we just give them an "Up and at 'em!" approach and make it a fast-paced gruelling battle of attrition.
You also have yourselves to blame for scoring the equaliser. :greenie:
Shocking result for Liverpool! Clearly dominated Chelsea through the whole match then let one lose like that.. I'd be gutted.
Come on Barca.
Poor riise I bet he won't be travelling to any Liverpool pubs for a while. xD
I thought it was bloody hilarious myself. I don't want either team to win (someone on LiveJournal called the game the footballing equivalent of 'Hitler vs. Stalin'), but it wasn't quite as boring as it could've been. Still got the second leg though.
That competes with the FA Cup final last season as United's most boring game I've ever seen. Shockingly crap, United never showing any desire for goal outside of penalty-fetching by Ronaldo (although he should have got more than we got, we could have had three that I'd call fair). Not really happy with that game in any way whatsoever. Should have been more players running forward and we gave away possession far more often than Barcelona themselves took the ball from us. Something tells me SAF was saving the energy of the players for the two up-and-coming games, which is somewhat understandable given there are three massive games in six days... but still frustrating for the fans.
Pity Barca didn't finish United off. No way in hell I'd want to face Man Utd in the final, assuming we can get there.
Can't believe what's going on at City.
The Thai tit was always going to be a pain in the arse, I just didn't think it would be so soon before he started being dumb. Anyway sacking Sven would be a ridiculous move, especially only after one season. And if they are planning to get Phil Scolari in like I heard I really hope Thaksin falls down a well or something.
I can't understand this at all. City have stumbled a little since the new year began, but this is still a massive improvement on last season, and Sven's got one of the most exciting squads in the league with which to finish even higher this season. Unfortunately it seems that the trend with big foreign investors is to interfere in the team's affairs instead of letting the manager get on with his job. When coupled with the demand for instant success, that means Sven probably won't be the last manager to be dismissed in this fashion.
I have to say I find it amusing that the biggest uproar about a new owner was given to the Glazers, yet they've been the only ones to really stay out of anything outside of commercial activities. How many other clubs are there with sensible foreign owners?
In the Premiership? Randy Lerner at Villa's been alright from what I've seen. Done well by Martin O'Neill and is willing to back the team.
Yes, it would be frankly ridiculous to get rid of Sven. City have dipped a bit, but I think when Sven's had more time and assembled a squad that's entirely to his liking, they'll have a better challenge for the European places. Still, if Moyes goes from Everton (still not signed that contract), I wouldn't mind us having Sven :p
Good luck Barca.
And i agree, very rough on Sven.
:)
YESSSSS!!!!! MOSCOW HERE WE COME!!!
In that case I hope we go out tomorrow. There is no way in hell we can beat United and I'd rather lose now than lose to United in a final.
Come on United, I'd love to see a Liverpool vs Man United in the Champions League final would be epic.
No matter what happens now the result of the final's going to be awful, so the way I see it the game itself may as well be good. With this in mind I halfheartedly back Liverpool, though if you guys could win without being happy about it that'd be swell.
I reckon Chelsea will go through, and I hate it because if there is anyone likely to beat us, it'll be Chelsea. When they're at home, they win or draw. When we're at home, we win or draw. When we're at a neutral ground, you get the FA Cup and Community Shield. Ugh, ugh, ugh.
Would love to beat either team, but just think we have a better chance of a good game (let alone a win) if it were to be against Liverpool.
I don't really want to watch any more of the match. It's my birthday damnit and I don't want to see the smug gloating faces of Drogba, Terry et al! Keeping an eye on the internet text commentary all the same though.
Sorry for failing you, football world, but damnit, we can't keep rescuing you from Chelsea every damn year.
EDIT: Ryan Babel has just scored oh god it can't be possible can it
EDIT2: No it can't.
Heart pumping 3 times normal speed
EDIT: landed.
Disappointed with the loss today. Don't think either team played very well. I would've happily taken a 0-0 draw because it would've guaranteed us fifth place. We can't afford to lose to Newcastle because I'm not confident that West Ham can avoid defeat against Villa. I would be incredibly disappointed if we missed out on Europe considered how well we did in the UEFA Cup this season.
I'm looking forward to the transfer window because word is that Moyes has been stalling on signing his new contract in order to get more spending money in the summer. I don't think we were ready for 4th place this season but it could've conceivably been ours, but with a bit of luck next season it might. But I certainly wouldn't bet on it.
I hope that we put on a good show!
I think Keegan was completely right in what he said about how hard it would be to break the top four - I can't believe he had to have a meeting about it with Ashley! The media asked him what the aim for Newcastle was next season and he said "fifth", and as a Newcastle fan I don't even expect that. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to get that high in the league but... unless the squad improves massively over the summer even that isn't going to happen. A lot of my friends (not Newcastle fans!) think we will get 5th next season but I think it is a ridiculous thing to expect. Our squad isn't strong enough - and Mike Ashley and his 'crew' don't even seem to be trying much to keep the best players of our team and extend their contracts. How can we attract great players when we can't even keep our best, and when we're not challenging in Europe? Oh well, we'll see over the summer, eh? ;)
I'm excited for the last day of the season! :excited: but I'm also sad because England aren't in the Euro's. :(
I think Fernando Torres should have won player of the year and not Cristiano Ronaldo. This is partially because I am extremely biased, but I have logic too. Ronaldo's had a better season than Torres, yes, but this is his what, 4th or 5th year in England? This is Torres's first, and he has scored 32 goals. If you look at Ronaldo's first year, well, he was a big pile of wank who couldn't cross the ball for :skull::skull::skull::skull:, whereas Torres has been immense. Either way it is not that big of a deal. Hopefully Nando will be scoring an insane amount of goals in a few years time.
We trashed Sunderland 7-1 for you. The least you can do is give us a point so we can finish 5th.
I dreamt that we won 2-0  but I doubt that'll happen. I'm interested to see how Andy Carroll does as he is in the starting eleven - and I'm happy to see N'Zogbia in the line up although he'll probably leave for Arsenal in the summer. He is a quality creative player and we lack thatt, and it's sad that he's been played out of position most of the season when he has been played. I wonder if Owen will leave us for Man United in the summer...and where the crap is Oba today?
...The smoggies are beating Man City? ...and Benjani Mwaruwari has been subbed off? Oh Benjani! :(
Edit: Haha, yeah. 1-0 to Everton. Dream you lie!
Edit 2: Okay so Ronaldo is now tied with Shearer on most goals in a season. NOW I HOPE HE GETS INJURED SO HE DOESN'T BEAT IT (well, okay I don't but I still hope he doesn't score again!). Anybody, anybody but him. Plus, come on Wigan! I want the lesser of two evils to win the premiership. :(
Man, no streams or radio commentary. I'm stuck listening to Score. Still, results are going our way at the moment so I can't complain.
Yesssssssssssssss! 1-1. :jess:
....Beautiful? Have you SEEN that mans hair?!
Oh my lord. 5-0 to the smoggies? Hahahahahaha. xD
Six...SIX-NIL? I didn't think it was even possible to lose 6-0 to Boro.
6-0.
I'm sorry Dan xD
7-0. I'm not sorry Dan.
...8-1. How embarrassing. xDDD
3-1 full time for Everton. I don't really mind, we had nothing to play for anyway. I was hoping to see Andy the giant score a goal, though. I can't wait for MoTD. :jess:
I'd like to think that was Sven's parting gift to Shinawatra. Or maybe the players decided to suck in protest.
Anyway, bad news about Birmingham, but good news about Fulham. Bad (ish) news about United, but good (ish) news for Ryan Giggs. And a pleasing result for us on the last day of the season, but oh, unbearable unbearable torment that Havard Nordtveit was on the bench but didn't play.
Only the cup final left to care about now. Kanu to win the cup for Portsmouth please.
I bet Sven wishes he got the sack before todays match.
I'm happy Ronaldo didn't beat Shearer's record. I know somebody has to do it someday but as long as it's not him I'll be happy. Now, I hope Chelsea beat United in the Champions League.
Also, I can't help but find it hilarious that the likes of Darren Fletcher has two Premier League Champions medals.
Hey cool Andriy Voronin scored come on guys lets get excited about that.
It's such a momentous occasion it's hard not to be. Typical biased Evertonian-ness aside, I've always thought Voronin looked rather tame and prone to messing up attacks, ruining the flow of your attack and never understood why he was played ahead of Crouch. I've had a go at Crouch in the past, but I accept he scores goals, whereas Voronin doesn't seem to.
Well, he was good for the first month of the season where he scored something like four goals. Then he just...well...meh.
Everyone knows Andriy's only there to bring some style to the dressing room.
CHAMPIONS AGAIN!! ;D
I guess we should probably talk about cricket or something now. Personally I like Hampshire this year, how about you guys? :greenie:

I don't understand Criket.
I seen a wicket, but turned off the TV cos' I couldn't stick it.
So I appreciate a good fine leg, how about the rest of you?
the irony is cricket is an infinitely more beautiful game than football, in an aesthetical sense, or any other manner you care to mention for that matter. in fact the aesthetics of it are probably the most easy thing for nubs to pick up on.
either way, you're dumb and a woman so no one cares about your opinions so go and bake a cake
that reminds me of that advert for coke zero that had Wayne Rooney in it going on about "the beautiful game" that made me laugh every single time I saw it
