Keep in mind that the Golden Ball is decided on prior to the final. Or at least it was decided prior to the headbutt incident. I think he was one of the top players up to that point. *shrugs*

Just curious, when exactly will Zidane speak publically about the incident? I heard by Friday, but I was wondering if maybe he has already and I just missed it.
From what I gathered, what Materazzi said was akin to a white man using the "N" word to a black man, but that was from unconfirmed news sources.
It still doesn't justify the action but it might shed light onto why it happened.
Take care all.
There were a lot of snail mail ballots that were sent before the final, so by the time they all got accounted for, the incident had already taken place, and it's not like people could change their vote then.Quote:

Really? Because apparently he called Zidane a dirty terrorists. And Brazilian lip readers said that he called his sister a slut. Personally, I don't trust any of it, and people are making stupid excuses.
Its no excuse that Materazzi definitely said SOMETHING horrible to him.Quote:

sure, it is not made out of steel, but still his hite was so strong, it is good his chest wasn't broken, really.Quote:

Anyone who thinks that the headbutt to the chest could have killed Mazeratti is taking this too far. Seriously, no. Also, I see players go to the ground much further and faster in every football game.
And considering the Italian tradition of diving this World Cup, how fast or hard Materazzi fell is hardly indicative of the strength of the headbutt.
But it could seriously have not killed him or very seriously have injured him.
Did you see him afterwards? He looked just fine.
Zidane didn't hot him full force, it was just a "STFU GTFO MY FOOTBALL PITCH" headbutt, knock some sense into him, I heard it was "Algerian terrorist scum" that was said.
Lip readers have given very differing results, yes. Either way, it was something bad. Obviously. That's all we'll probably ever know.
unless Mazeretti confesses exactly what he said.
yes, but it could have hurt him. anyway Zedan's behavioure was really bad, I was shocked. star players like him should always think before they do anything similare.
Following this fairly average World Cup, new FIFA rankings have been released, with the USA now in a more accurate 16th, although rather bizzarely, they've overtaken Mexico.
Never mind, they'll reclaim their rightful place in the top 5 in no time at all, no doubt hammering Belize 5-0 and putting three past Bermuda along the way. ;)
1 Brazil
2 Italy
3 Argentina
4 France
5 England
6 Netherlands
7 Spain
8 Portugal
9 Germany
10 Czech Republic
11 Nigeria
12 Cameroon
13 Switzerland
14 Uruguay
15 Ukraine
16 USA
17 Denmark
18 Mexico
19 Paraguay
20 Côte d'Ivoire
Australia are 33rd, for those of you who care, behind footballing powerhouses like Colombia and Guinea.
Ah, insanity still prevails.
Don´t know why England deserves to be in the top 5:eep:
You just beat me to it.Quote:

Zidane said he told him to stop pulling his shirt, and that if he [Materazzi] really wanted it, he'd be happy to trade at the end of the game. After that, Materazzi said something involving Zidane's mother and/or sister, but Zidane didn't say the details of what was said exactly. He added that he had to listen to it once, twice, and that at the third time, he got sick of it, because he could only take so much verbal abuse. That's when he hit him.
About the headbutt, Zidane said he wanted to apologize to kids and mothers, and that it was unexcusable/unforgivable, and that it should be sanctioned. However, he added that what he did was a response to a provocation, and that the one who provoked it should be sanctioned aswell.
Typo or not? :DQuote:

Yeah, just read some news. I can't believe Zidane got pissed off a your mom joke. I guarantee my mom has been through worsethan his and I don't get pissed.
edit: w00t Klinsmann quit! Coach us now please!
Isn't Zidane's mom very ill? That might have set him off.
Slowly but surely, things are falling into place. Still a terribly stupid move, but it looks less like Zidane just went nuts on his own.
Also, I second Klinsmann for coach of the US.
Take care all.
By sanctioned, I mean punished. And yes, he did say he deserves to be punished for it.Quote:

For example Joachim Löw, the assistant coach, had a VERY big role in the German team, as did other people.
With this in mind, im confident the German team will continue and improve their new sporting philosophy, seeing as most of the people who worked with the in this world cup will be in 2010 (which, btw, might NOT afterall be held in South Africa due to technology problems. It MIGHT be assigned to another country).

Zih-dahn sounds much much better than Zih-dain.
Zih-dahn is how both the footballer and the FFIX character are SUPPOSED to be pronounced.
Eww...Quote:

Eww... back
Zi-dain sounds VERY americanised, at least some people TRY to adopt the original language's sounds l0l. Zi-daine sounds like youve got something stuck in your throat, or have turned into some sort of pig/crow, or man-bear-pig. Zi-dahn sounds classy. ^^ :D
Anyway. Oh yeah, I know this isnt World Cup news, but seeing as how Italy won the world cup, its interesting to know that the following Italian football clubs have been given verdicts:
CLUB PUNISHMENTS
Juventus:
Relegated to Serie B
30-point deduction for next season
Stripped of 2005 and 2006 titles
Out of 2006-07 Champions League
Five-year ban for ex-general manager Luciano Moggi
Five-year ban for ex-chief executive Antonio Giraudo
AC Milan:
Deducted 15 points next season
Out of 2006-07 Champions League
One-year ban for vice-president Adriano Galliani
Club official Leonardo Meani banned for three years and six months
Fiorentina:
Relegated to Serie B
12-point deduction next season
Out of 2006-07 Champions League
President Andrea Della Valle banned for three years and six months
Four-year ban for honorary president Diego Della Valle
Lazio:
Relegated to Serie B
Out of 2006-07 Uefa Cup
7-point deduction next season
Three-year ban for president Claudio Lotito

And who get the Serie A titles 04-05 and 05-06? Inter?
Zi-Dahn sounds so smurfing stupid. 'Dane' is not pronounced Dahn. Danish people are not called Dahn-ish. Dane = Dane, or Dain.
Anyway, Juve got screwed pretty bad. Fair enough on the league drop and removal from Europe but -30 points as well is shocking. Oh well, I suppose they get what they deserved.
Meaning he's safe from having a rubbish name.Quote:

EDIT: At the end of the season, three teams are promoted to Serie A and four go down to Serie C. The top two teams are automatically promoted, while the third- through sixth-place teams enter a playoff series (almost identical in format to that long used in England's Football League) to determine the final promotion spot.
No it doesn't, but whatever. I'm american so I'm going to pronounce it the american way. :pQuote:

I definitely agree to disagree here. Dain? Ugh.Quote:

Zi-dahn sounds softer and less forced than Zi-daine imo
Both FFIX Zidane and football Zidane are Zi-dahn, but obviously you can pronounce it however you want, just make sure there arent any french people about when you do it! :p
Also, the word Zidane comes from the word 'Gitane' (also pronounced Gi-tahn). Gitane apparently means gypsy. Zinedine Zidane is an Algerian gypsy, right?
And Zidane Tribal is also supposed to be a gypsy, his last name also verifies that meaning.
Since they both come from the same word, they should also be pronounced the same way IMO
If you want to pronounce it in proper french, it would be something like Zi-dah. (with a very very soft N) - Im pretty sure.
But anyway, i cant be arsed to have a lengthy discussion on how to pronounce Mr 'I wish I was a bull'
So any replies to this will go unanswered out of sheer laziness :p
Yeah I THINK Inter Milan will get it, but im not entirely sure myself. Check on some sporting websites.Quote:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Xl0MXJoI9E guys, I just almost peed myself laughing at that, enjoy watching the great Materazzi fall to the might of Zidane's head throughout the ages. I think the Itallians must be quite pissed indeed with these punishments, pissed at themselves for bringing it to themselves, but you gotta feel bad in some way for some of the teams.
On the subject of the Italian verdict, are the relegated teams demoted in place of the clubs who finished bottom of Serie A this season, or will they be replaced by the 4th-6th placed clubs from Serie B? Similarly, will Italy simply forefeit three of their Champions' League spots for the season, or will they simply be filled by other teams?
Either way, I suppose this makes European football more interesting next season, what with the flurry of transfer activity following Juve's demotion, and the consequences this will have for Serie A next year. I suppose this means we won't have a Juventus side in PES6, though. :(
Yeah it wouldn't be so easy for them to go back up when you consider there will probably be a mass exodus of the best players for clubs that can still play in Europe.
The three teams that would normally have been relegated (Two others that nobody cares about, and my favourites, Lecce :D) are staying in Serie A.Quote:

Actually, I'm right and UEFA are wrong. Although I suppose it hardly matters, since the competition has very little to do with being Champions of anything any more.Quote:

Tis probably has nothing to do with anything, but my Bro was recently up in Italy to play soccer in a tournament (San Marino Cup). And it Turns out, a scout was watching him play GK and thought he was really good. He has to go to a Training session next march and if hes on his game, he may get picked up by a Serie A or B team. then i can be him on FIFA 08. Its actually funny because he doesnt start on his college team, but he might go pro.
Another 4 teams in the Italian Serie A are going to get a verdict for match-fixing etc. Forgot their names now.
Sexahol addiction is no joke. :(Quote:
