The finals presents quite an interesting challenge. On the one hand, Italy's defense has been unreal. The only goal they've given up was an own goal to the US. (Sidenote: Should Italy win, I'm not buying the argument that the US was one of the best teams at the WC because they tied Italy. It was a great result, but seriously blown out of context in the scheme of things here). Buffon has been nothing short of spectacular and the way they won the game against Germany was inspiring. You could tell the Germans were playing for PK's, where they're undefeated, while Italy pressed to win the game and wouldn't you know it, they did. Italy does flop a bit too much for my liking, but that's the nature of the beast and they play together very well as a unit. A win would also be a nice respite to the scandals that have rocked the Italian leagues.
On the other you have France, who continue to press on despite some very up and down play. Told they were too old, and that they couldn't mesh, they came out early and played very uninspired and barely qualified out of the group play. However, somehow, somewhere, Zidane has returned to look like the player that can single-handedly win a WC and he in my opinion is the wild card. If Zidane plays like he did against Brazil or even the first half against Portugal, before France began to play back and not attack, I think France has a shot, a legit shot. Zidane is that rare talent that controls the flow of the game and as was witnessed both in 98 and in this WC, he can will the French to victory.
I look for a close contest with plenty of fouls, which is one of the major storylines of this World Cup and in the end, somehow, someway, I see Zidane riding off into the sunset leading his team and his country to one final victory. Italy will be very tough, but if Henry, Ribary and the rest of the midfield can keep it together, I do think Zidane can lead them one more time. If Italy finds a way to bottle Zizou however, Italy will win this in a walk. Still, much like the Mavs had the superior team in the NBA Finals, the Heat with the single best player in Wade, won. So too, do I think will fall in this game, with Zidane. A great way to end a great career, I think.
In the third place game, I think Germany wins it IF Klose and Ballack can play. I've read both are hurt and might not be able to suit up, Klose especially, but if they do, I think Germany wins it.
Take care all.
So many Arsenal extremists, I'm afraid I'll be ripped apart if I cheer for Italy.
Oh yeah?

EDIT: Second one is the best imho. It's not a conventional dive though.

I mean, I admit that Ronaldo is a bit of a twat/wanker, but to say he ruined England's WC is nothing more than creating a scapegoat in him for the fact that England, quite frankly, sucked in comparison to certain other teams, and couldn't manage to defeat a single top-rated side in the tournament. 1-0 over Ecuador and a draw against Sweden are hardly world-beating side scorelines. I love Rooney to bits but he's not the be-all and end-all and I think Portugal would have won anyway.

I support Arsenal, but I like Italy and wouldn't mind them winning, as much as I like Henry etc.Quote:
