The Ugly Truth is a very well put together romcom (as in, what the audience wants to happen happens, and a rofl from time to time). The humor appeals to tastes of a variety meaning the standard non-romcom kind of male guy would be able to laugh at least twice. My only problem with the film is the same with just about all common romance/romcom films... NOTHING UNEXPECTED HAPPENS.
Films this week overall:
The Ugly Truth 3/5 (Above average for it's genre, a fun film to watch at least once or twice... if that's what you're hoping for)
Taking of Pelham 123 3.5/5 (Average drama saved by great casting, acting and choice of character roles)
Vampire Hunter D. Bloodlust:
IT
WAS
EPIC!
Seriously, I've never gotten into the manga nor the anime, Nikki suggested that I watch it and loaned me the movie. It was really well done, hehe I still have the movie and that was a few weeks ago. Hope her friend doesn't want it back ;D
LOTR: The Two Towers. Perfect.
Kiki's Delivery Service. Good from start to finish, but it had kind of an abrupt ending that made me want to watch it again. Maybe that was intentional. Loved it either way, though.
Oh wow Kiki's Delivery Service was like my favorite animated film as a kid and I would squeal with glee whenever Disney showed it.
Saw Reservoir Dogs after being inspired by Basterds.
Was an awesome awesome movie even if it is 17 years old.
I've wanted to see it ever since I've known of its existence (read: about 10 years) and I finally got my chance. Patience pays off, I suppose.
Though, I kind of wonder if I'd appreciate the film as much if I had watched it then instead of just now.
I wub Kiki! The first time I saw it was back in like '98 before Disney acquired Ghibli releases, so it was a completely different dub cast. The first time I saw the Disney dub version, I was disappointed with all the Gigi improvs Mr. Hartman added. But it's grown on me after all these years and I can't even imagine the movie with out them. I'd still like to find a copy of the old dub though. :(
I just watched Pineapple Express. It was okay. But I doubt I'll ever watch it again.
Blood: The Last Vampire (2009)
I thought it was gonna be bad so I may like it because my expectations were so low going in. Some of the action was campy and the stylized speed variations during weren't as organized as they could have been; if the intention was to give the movie a chaotic feel, it didn't work out. At some points I was reminded of old Kung Fu movies. I like the music, it has definite nods to the original film, but no tracks actually return.
They squished the high school plot in too fast, but I guess they needed space for all this new crap they wanted to put in.
I enjoyed the acting though, most of the characters hung on between insanity and normalcy. Whether that effect was achieved intentionally or because they weren't taking their roles seriously doesn't matter to me because it worked for me.

PS: I hate flying in martial arts movies. Stop it please.
MirrorMask.
This movie was pretty strange. It was like a kid's story, but the art style seemed like it would've terrified me as a kid. Hard to place.
I liked it, and kept thinking about it all night. I even dreamed about Helena, I think.
yeah mirrormask was like that
gaiman eats stories and plots for kids and poops out drug induced benders
The strange thing about MirrorMask is that it was intended to be a "sequel" of sorts to Labyrinth. Style-wise, not plot or character-wise.
Some of the humor is similar . . . but it bares little resemblance.
Watchmen:
it was even better the second time. Lot of things made more sense or made sense earlier.
The Cable Guy
I haven't seen this movie in years but I was pretty smurfed up the other day and decided to watch it. It had some genuinely funny parts but it came off kinda creepy and not in the intended humorous way. Both restaurant scenes were pretty hilarious but the rest was pretty bland.
