My family celebrates the New Year (Korean customs, not Chinese ones) on January 1st, even though a lot of people in the Korean community wait around for the Lunar New Year to start.
People get dressed up in traditional Korean outfits, eat the traditional rice cake soup, do the blessings, get gift money, and then we all sit around and play the traditional New Years games. New Years is probably the biggest Holiday for my family. It trumps Christmas and Thanksgiving and any birthdays. It's the one time everyone in the family gets together. Plus, it's when I get fistfuls of cash. I love it. :p
