I liked a few of his really popular songs, but I had never really listened to any of his actual albums until last year or so. Then I actually listened to some of them...first Smells Like Children and then Mechanical Animals. Then finally Antichrist Superstar. Then I listened to Holy Wood. Then I began watching recordings of his performances on YouTube...and I really am into his music now, though I haven't listened to his two latest albums.
The only thing I've heard by him so far that I really don't care for is the two or three songs off of The Golden Age of Grotesque. That "mOBSCENE" song was annoying as hell.
EDIT: OH, and his cover of "This Is Halloween"...eck.
Nah. I've never really sought out his work. Occasionally his songs are on the radio, but on stations to which I don't listen.
He is the epitome of androgyny, though.
Used to be a pretty big fan. Still listen to his stuff every now and then. Holy Wood has always been my favourite of his albums.
Smells Like Children is the weirdest compilation like ... ever. Especially smurf Frankie. That 'song' worries me o.o;
His stuff on GAoG is okay, but not really any where near the caliber of say, Antichrist Superstar. Eat Me, Drink Me is just awful.
I think his trilogy of concept albums (Antichrist Superstar, Mechanical Animals, and Holywood) have amazingly smart lyrics and ideas behind them. Mechanical Animals is mos defs my favorite era.
Wordfilters on smurf Frankie are lame as all hell.ty Chicken Gang Bang sounds like theme music for if/when you were ever captured by goblins in a 1970's drugged out cartoon. Rock and Roll Nigger was the only song on the album that really stood out for me, the other remixes and covers were mediocre. Portrait of an American Family and Mechanical Animals are the two in my opinion that don't have a track worth skipping, and Antichrist Superstar's got a few weak spots, but it makes up for it overall with The Reflecting God.
Also it's just neat as all hell when you put the CD inserts through the blue jewel case to read the decoded messages. I wish more artists included easter eggs like that.
Rock'n'Roll Nigger is a great cover of a great song. I really like Portrait, but I do think it is weaker overall than Antichrist Superstar. Wrapped in Plastic is the best song ever made, though.
The Reflecting God is one of my least favorite songs off of AS ... but I still love it because I love that album like nobody's business. Wormboy, Angel With the Scabbed Wings, Irresponsible Hate Anthem, Dried Up, Tied Up, and Dead to the World, and Tourniquet are all rock masterpieces, yo. Man That You Fear is godddddddly.
The video for Man That You Fear mesmerized me at the impressionable young age of 10.
Much of his earlier work is something that I found to be quite interesting, clever, and even now, I still enjoy it. However, his more recent works (Golden Age of Grotesque and Eat Me, Drink Me) are, musically speaking, terrible.
This saddens me in a manner, for found some meaning and revelry in the background behind much of the Golden Age of Grotesque's lyrics and motives. The music, however, was, simply put, a smurfing disappointment.
I just like how it sounds in my ears.
I don't even own a single one of his albums, know the name of any of this songs let alone the name of his albums xD
I like "If I was your vampire" for obvious reasons.
HAH!
Never really liked or disliked him.

I just recently got his greatest hits album. I really quite like a lot of it :jess: I left Eat Me, Drink Me in the background once and it was all just one continuous song of nonsense as far as I was concerned.
I like Rock Is Dead =) Since that song I've been praying to my TV!
