The Masamune is actually an obtainable item during disc two. It is obtained by wining a score over 30,000 on the shooter ride at the golden saucer. However, it remains just that. An item. It cannot be equiped or viewed.

How do you get the Tonberry summon and what does it do?
Getting Tonberry:
You have to find the "hug materia"! You get it when you talk to every dog in the game. the last dog you talk to will give you the materia. Then you have to fight Tonberry. You have to reduce his HP to exactly 1HP, then you must use the hug materia on him. Be sure you equipped Tifa with it. When she hugs Tonberry, it falls in Love with her and turn into Toberry summon materia. If you make the mistake to give hug Materia to Cloud or someone else, Tonberry will knife him down!
What does Tonberry do:
When summoning Tonberry it appears and at first it does nothing. Then after several seconds it first hugs Tifa, she appears out of nowhere if not in your party. After that it will go to the enemy and hug it. Tonberry will deal as much damage as was dealt to Tifa through the whole game! Attention, there is a minimal chance of 5:1 that Tonberry will hug every other partymember with the same effect. If Tifa is not in your Party = Game over.
That's Tonberry. Cool huh?
