Do you think music affects animals' emotions?

We all know that we humans feel different kinds of emotions depending on the music we hear, but what do you think about animals?
Do they interpret melodies the same way, or do they think music is just a weird collection of random tunes? :cool:

My macaw loves music. He's partial to Stevie Nicks. I don't think they relate to it on the level that humans do, but I'm sure they like some music because of the pleasant sounds.

I've always wondered the sme thing.

I'm sure that some animals do. Certain birds almost definitely.

Maybe a couple of my dogs can hear it.
I don't think cats can tell a difference, and I don't think that cows care.

Music probably affect different animals different ways. I don't know how exactly it'll affect them though.

My cat gets very relaxed when I listen to Tchaikovsky. But put on Brahms and, wow, it can get very angry indeed... :(

My dog used to bark along to "Who Let The Dogs Out?"

Then she died.

Now I'm sad.

My cat is a reincarnation of Mozart, which reminds me that it's nearly time for me to dye his fur pink again.

He also appears to enjoy my singing, for what it's worth.

Now that I think about it, our cats actually seem to tell a difference between music and noise:
they run and hide if there's a terrible noise somewhere, but we could play The Beach Boys really loud, and still they went sleeping beside the loud-speakers. :D

My Lucy (dog) used to fall asleep whenever she layed on my lap and I hummed any sort of soft music to her. I miss her. :(

Yes, I think some animals do. I also think it depends on the individial; all dogs don't care equally much for music, for example.

Probably not, unless you're talking humongously lous death metal and sleeping monkeys. Probably makes them angry. =o

Kinda makes me want to blare some Children of Bodom while my cat is next to the speaker to see what happens.

animals have emotions?

I've seen animals with character, but never have I seen an animal display anything that would point directly to them housing emotions.

Animals most likely respond to music based primarily on its volume. However, I wouldn't put it past some animals to try to respond to music as their owners do.

Animals don't have emotion, nor do they have feelings. It is a common myth and excuse formed so that vegetarians can justify their fear of eating meat and not wanting to admit that they are inferior to their meat-eating relatives.

Termites eat faster when listening to rock music and chickens lay eggs faster when listening to, quite comically, 'pop' music.

I'm pretty sure they're only interested in if it poses a threat to them.

My ferrets go crazy for gangsta rap. They're all about pimpin' the hos.
