Yeah, Adel freaked me out. Laguna at one point mentions "she may have been a sorceress, but she was only human". I take it she somehow used her screwed up magic to mutate into a more monstrous, gigantic form.

If that's not actually the case, then you're just gonna have to suspend your disbelief, buster!

Well, being a sorceress (or at least an evil one) does tend to mutate one's body. Just look at Edea and Ultimecia, as well as Adel. Edea's got some weird veiny horns growing out of her face and Ultimecia has her hair doing weird things, her toes turning into razors, and big, black wings on her back.

I read somewhere that being a sorceress has corrupted her appearance and caused her to look masculine and monstrous.

I too believe it's possible that the same thing happened to Edea and Ultimecia.

Nah, actually she looks like Claudia Schiffer. It's just the scheme on the reflective wall that Futures Esthar described in Act 2 of his wiki that makes it her look different.
