I thought it had a good list of guest characters - Minwu, Gordon, Leila, Ricard, Josef. All of them archetypes for future FF characters.

I would've wanted Richard instead of Leon. The first time I played, I didn't train anyone in Spears.
I basically didn't level up Leon when I got him, so he was dead all the way thru the palace, I revived him for the emperor and he died on the first turn. That is why I hate him. That and the fact that Squall's name is based on his.
My favourite character is Mindu because he has the coolest personality. He's also the only one that believes in Firion from the start.
Did anyone like Hilda cos I did.
I thought Layla was cool too. Otherwise...well...I dunno. Maybe Richard or Gordon. Only finished FF2 once and it was hell.
On second thoughts, Hilda was pretty cool. She got kidnapped a couple of times, but I think that she was a good leader for Teh Rebel Armie. Maria was alright, but in the opening FMV for origins I found her to be very annoying and much too stereotypical helpless girl. It wouldn't have been so bad if the boys were helpless as well, but her brothers were expertly chucking knives and whacking people off with swords whilst she sat and squeaked like a duck. Minwu and Gordon were cool.
