I can only assume that it's because, if it doesn't have a hard drive, then games that require one would not be playable.
That's just an assumption, mind. :)
It looks like it could break more easily.
Is it worth buying?
It can play all games. The only difference is that the online adapter is built in instead of having to buy an attachment for the back.
All I know is that it gets a hell of a lot hotter than the original PS2.
No cooling fan, no HDD support for FFXI and Resident Evil Outbreak. Plus it looks like it'll break if you sneeze on it. =P

This is Sony we're talking about here. They don't care about the consumer.
It works fine though, I've left it on for two days (I hated Sigma's fortress, I didn't want to have through it again) and it doesn't overheat, it just gets hot.
But if they ARE overly money-hungry, then they should at least be so smart as to understand that ditching the cooling fan might be disastrous in the long run.Quote:

I'd say just get it, it's nice and slim and if you know how to take care of your possessions then it will not break and no, mine has never overheated. I doubt they would have released it without a cooling fan knowing it'd overheat and break easily.
Just get it if you want a PS2, the old ones are bulky and loud.
And durable and won't burn your hands off when you touch it.
It's really a matter of preference. If you're not going to use the hard drive, neither is really better than the other.
I don't know about you, but I keep my PS2 in a safe place and don't throw it around all the time, and I don't try to pick it up when it's running.Quote:

I have both. Kinda depends on what you want it for. I have my PS2 Slim in my car. But I like it better than my PS2, because it's a space saver, and the graphics don't look any different. I want mine in my room now =(

The only issue with it is that it can't play games that require the hard drive. I only know of one game that requires the hard drive, and that's FFXI. It does have a fan, but it is much more quiet than the fan used in the old PS2. It also has a network adapter built-in, making it simpler to play a few games online.
It's lasted a hell of a lot longer than my regular one, and it doesn't make noises like it's about to take off or explode. I also saved twenty quid on an ethernet adaptor.
My PS2 is chunky and ugly looking. However, it's never been too loud, and has never caused me problems.
ive got the small PS2, and as far as i know you can play the same types of games on it as you can on a regular PS2, and also ive never had a problem with over heating or anything.
I heard it over heats easily.

If you sit it on top of a hot TV and use it for hours at a time without turning off, you'll get performance issues.
I don't think it's a problem if you give it decent ventilation. Aside from the HD support missing, you're not getting hurt on too much.
