Meh, I actually just got a free upgrade from my ISP. 16Mb/s now. I watch streaming HD videos as long as they're compressed in DivX 6.
it will never be fast enough, even when it's instant, the fact that i at one point didn't have something will still irk me.
also, you have some blistering speeds up there...the fastest i DL from torrents or limewire is like 100kbps, and from ftp/direct downloads around 175.
I've had 700 with my 6ker line. You just need a good download manager that allows splitting. The fastest you can get in these parts is 50Mb/s. But I guess there are faster lines in other regions of the world, thus the 100+ option.Quote:

I think I'm around 2mb/s. I get around 240-260kb/s downloading from usenet, which usually maxes out your connection.
I've done a few tests, and I've gotten anywhere from 7 to 12 MBs.

Currently I have some stupid student broadband called MCW, it's supposed to be 1 meg but runs at about 250kb (dunno about the whole capitalisation of the 'b', but a quarter of 1 meg:) ). I'm moving in less than a week and will be getting the amazing Be broadband, so 24 meg :D :D :D

64k is the maximum for a single line dialup, not 52.
Also, my internet connection is technically about 16Mbps, but it's shared and throttled. QoS ensures :skull::skull::skull::skull: transfer rates if I do anything but browse the web.

I think that it is supposed to be 1 Megabit, while you're getting 250 kiloByte. Obviously, they've lied to you. With a Byte being 8 bits, you must have a 2 Megabit connection in order to get the 250kB/s.:pQuote:

I got 74kB :D, and you can take of the 20% bandwidth cap if you want, if your OS is windows
ADDED:
1.Log on as "Administrator".
2. Run - gpedit.msc
3. Expand the "Local Computer Policy" branch
4. Then expand the "Administrative Templates" branch
5. Expand the "Network" branch
6. Highlight the "QoS Packet Scheduler" in left pane.
7. In the right window pane double-click the "Limit Reservable Bandwidth" setting
8. On the settings tab check the "Enabled" item
9. Change "Bandwidth limit %" to read 0
10. Then go to your Network connections Start=>Connect to=>Show All Connections and
right-click on your connection. Then under the General or the Networking tab,
(where it lists your protocols) make sure QoS packet scheduler is enabled.
I think that site shows the current speeds coz my max speeds are 1024kbps/256kbps!!!
That site is a tester of your current speed, and your current speed CAN be decreased by downloading other files simultaneously. Also, choosing a server that isn't recommended may slightly decrease your speed.
Basically close down your illegal torrenting while you do it.

at home i have dialup, so really slow (i think i get something like 4kb/s download). at school i tested it a bit before i went home and i think it was something like 1667kb/s down? i forget exactly.

At home we have 1.5 mbps DSL, with a pretty :skull::skull::skull::skull:ty 30 kb/s upload speed. I'll be moving into an apartment pretty soon, and I think we're going to get either 5 or 10 mbps cable. I don't know what kind of real speed I'll get out of that, though, since it's probably not as good as they advertise and will be split between my housemates.
Analogue modems have a maximum connection rate of 56kbps, but if you have an ISDN phone line, which is fully digital, you can get 64k. Now this seems like a relatively small increase in speed, but you gotta keep in mind that analogue connections sometimes get connected at lower than 56k, for example 48k or 42k, depending on for example the quality of the phone lines. ISDN always give you 64k, and never slows down. It also allows you to bundle two ISDN connection and get 128k. The technology is also synchronous, unlike ADSL.Quote:
