As the title of this thread says, how long do you think you must be at this forum to be considered an oldbie? How long is the newbie phase? Regular phase? Etc.

More than three years. Newbie, one year. Regular, in between.
This is assuming that the member acts somewhat normal (read: isn't a retard), and is active most of the time.
You're a newbie for the first three months, and then a regular for like... I don't even know. I don't know when most people would consider themselves an oldbie, but no matter how long you've been here, if you didn't register in EoFF's first year then the real oldbies will throw spitwads at you. They're mean.
The first year is the newbie stage IMHO.
The Oldbie status is now unattainable, in order to be an oldbie, you must already be one.
you're a newbie for the first 6 months imo because it takes about that long for most people to recognize your name..unless you post A LOT. You gotta be here for a loonnng time to be a oldbie.
You have to have joined in either 1999 or 2000. If not, you're never going to be an oldbie, so thank whatever deity you believe in.
since you asked this question ill make sure that you stay a newbie forever!!!!!
He joined in 1972. 1972 is not 1999 or 2000. DUH, SHLUPQUACK.
I can't go to bed at night without reassuring myself that Raistlin is watching over us all.
I'm not sure, but I think it's
1 year: newb
2-4 years: average
5+ years: oldbie
Longer than I have been.
2006-2007 Newbie
2003-2005 Regular
1999-2002 Oldbie
It doesn't really matter. Oldbies don't really serve a purpose anymore within the framework of the community. Most have moved on and those who remain (like Raistlin) are merely shells of their former selves.
Those of us who joined soon after the first vB era are momentarily at the height of power within the community, but our time is soon coming and as it's been evidenced in recent months with the transfer of ownership, some of us are starting to fade away and come irrelevant.
What comes after is no doubt a system shaped by the likes of the latter vB and second vB populace (late '02 - early '04). I'd rather not be around to for that.
I'm just an average! I've been here for two years, and I'm looking forward to more.
In about 2 years I'll probably chance my name to something more sophisticated like "dagger" or "trepe", so people can say "Oh, there's that oldbie dagger!" :p
This is my 3rd year. *is proud*
Well, to me:
Newbie: First 6-12 months depending on their personality and what have you.
Regular: Been an active member for 1.5-3 years
Oldbie (or Veteran maybe?) Been an active member for 4 years or more.
I've been here about 4.5 years, closer to 5 years. I never want to be an oldbie, because then Raistlin will want me to kiss him. ;_;
9 years.
I've been here about...3 years, I think. I guess I'm considered a regular. Though I don't post much. ^_^;
Everyone who joined before me is an oldbie, everyone who joined after is a newbie. I am the only regular.
Does that make things any clearer?
I actually agree with that statement.
The last of the true oldbies are going extinct, and no one could truly replace their places in the EoFF community. I guess though, once you've been around here a good 5 or so years, you'd be considered a Veteran, but oldbie? I dunno.
For me, a Newb is anyone who's account isn't older than one year, a Regular is anyone in between Newbie and Veteran status, a Veteran is anyone who's been here for like, 5 years (and posts consistently).
longer than me.
Christ, it'll have been 4 years for me tomorrow.
Where does time go?
I will forever be a newbie :greenie:
I've been here since '04 according to my join date, so I've nearly reached three years.
I just don't post all the time. Or come all the time.
There is no such thing as an oldbie.
A oldbie is a digruntled ex employee of Vb who was punished by being sealed into one of his own creations for least 5 years before being released and realising that he likes it there as he is a god among men!
Truly cool people go for extr33m postcounts.
I joined back in '03, but that doesn't really mean squat if you come and go like I do. XD
I'm still a newbie here. Been here for almost a year.:D
Too bad they're all extinct.
Anyways I'm a Recognized Member and most people don't recognize me. Though I still consider myself an "oldbie" simply based on the fact that I'vewastedenjoyed 7 glorious years in thisHell Holelovely community.
My point?
Everyone knew who Devil Man was before he was banned and he wasn't even around for a year. Recognition means nothing - time is all there is... well there's also Shlup.
I tend to think (no offense to those with the title) that RM title doesn't mean much. If I were to look at the list of members I would only recognise some of them, and that recognition has nothing to do with tenure as an active member.
I've pretty much continuously been an active member in this forum for six years now (with some periods of inactivity due to RL issues), but that doesn't mean anything because the membership and population changes quite dynamically.
PS: where's Dr Unne
78!
Oldbies are a myth like Bigfoot or Canada. They want you to think you can attain such a status so you stick around. It's all one huge manipulation.
Whilst on the forum index, I saw this threads title cut short to:"How long do you think one has..."an I thought the rest of it would be "to live" for some reason. An then on seeing that this topic is about oldbies, because when I think of oldbies I imagine them as being decrepit, an therefore not far from death, it's amusing me.
i always considered someone a newbie if they didnt have a custom title. or if half there posts had to be edited by a CK because they didnt read the rules.
a regular if none of the above, and you post somewhat often.
oldbie if you have a Recognized member title or you're always talking about the old days and you're still not too sure what this whole internet thing is about. technology sacres you. NES graphics amaze you.
I am currently loving Bert.
Oldbie is 1999.
If you need to ask, you can never be one.
I doubt I'll ever be a regular or an oldbie at this forum. I can't be nothered to make long posts.
I don't think time is the correct way to measure oldbieness. I think smell is the way to go.
Newbie: smells like fried chicken
Regular: smells like wood
Oldbie: smells like a wet dog that just dropped a poo with beige maggots in it.
That can't be true, that would make me an 'Oldbie' and I'm nowhere near cool enough to be an 'Oldbie'. It's like an exclusive club where you have to be this cool to enter and I'm only this cool. Your logic is flawed.
That said, people who care about officaly being an 'Oldbie' are invariably insufferable idiots, on par with Image Macro users and people who try far too hard to be wacky.
im a two year member and im know threwout the #eoff world as that chick that can draw and cant spell and likes to call the forums #eoof!
<3
It's times like this I knew my original join date, which I'm pretty sure was late 2000. regardless. you can't just BECOME an oldbie once you hit a certain anniversary of your registration. it's more of a character thing. either you are (RSL) or you aren't (demondude55). there's probably a certain length of time after december 5, 1999 that constitutes guaranteed oldbie status, too.
I hearby anoint myself 'Grand Lordmaster General of the People', a title that is equaly as valid as this 'Oldbie'. The requirements to being a 'Grand Lordmaster General of the People' are simple, you must be me.
As a 'Grand Lordmaster General of the People', I am super cool and get to join the 'Grand Lordmaster General of the People' club, the most exclusive club EVER. I'll probably start my own spinoff forum, call it something witty, then shut it down due to inactivity because it's just that goddamn exclusive.
If I understand the logic of these other groups correctly, this makes me the coolest guy in the world ever.
I think to be a regular oldbie your join date shouldn't be the real one!
I know I'm a newbie, but I'm here as a lurker from 2001 so I must be oldbie lurker!
gtfo eyes on nobody likes youOK SHINNY JUST SHUT UP OK YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT YOUR TALKING ABOUT YOU DONT UNDERSTAND EOFF BECAUSE YOUR JUST A N00B SO JUST SHUT UP OK NOBODY FROM 2002 IS AN OLDBIE YOU DONT UNDERSTNAD MY INTERNET FORUM SO JUST SHUT UP OKAY
