Yes. Or in less common instances, "LMAO" when I find something really amusing. Otherwise I just say something like "haha", or “Heh” to acknowledge that it was a joke.

I use it to bridge gaps in topics or sentences...
I also use it when there is nothing else to say and im bored...if im actually laughing im more likely to put LMAO or ROFL.

I say lol even when I'm not laughing. It's a social thing in order to make others feel good about themselves. If I chuckle, it's some form of EL OH EL, rofl, roflblastar, roflcoptor, winnared, get pwned much, ARE OH EFF EL, or lmao. I use xD (not that blasphemous XD) to denote when I am joking, or using someone as the butt of a joke.
If I'm actually laughing, I won't be typing at all. Which is never.

"lol" is for making fun of someone or being silly. Lawl is bemusement. I am rarely actually laughing out loud in either situation. That calls for an exDee.

Anyway, yes, sometimes, I do. I give a little chuckle to myself.
I never use "lol" anymore, but I do use "xD" I'm not laughing, but it does show (i think) that I'm being more playful then laughing. If I'm laughing, I usually just type "hahahaha ..." and if it's even more funny I'll add more "ha's."

What MILF said, though I don't laugh much period. However, that does not mean that I do not find things amusing or enjoyable, I simply don't display them outwardly via a grand smile or laugh.

Replace lol with xD, and then the answer is yes. Every single time. There's no point in xDing if you're not laughing.
Chances are, if I ever actually typed LOL, I'd be too busy wanting to kill myself for using net lingo to bother laughing.

I use it every now and then, but when I'm really laughing I use "LMAO." I use "ROFL" when I find something slightly funnier than in "LMAO" status... And finally I use "ROFLMAO" when I see something that can potentially kill me from laughter.
