I need to run through Disgaea 2.
I only saw a couple screenshots earlier today, and I'm sure the gameplay will be as good or better than ever, but come on: when you're making PS2 games that barely look better than PS1 games, you can maybe get away with "It's about the gameplay, and the sprites are cute!"
But now a game on the PS3 looking nearly two generations out of date? The PS2 has such a huge market share, they should've just left it on that system and had an excuse for the subpar visuals. Or put it on a handheld.
Those graphics are pretty iconic of NIS games, but I can definitely see where you're coming from.
Personally, I'm fine with the graphics but hope they do full-on anime cutscenes for every story scene. That would be amazing.
Not that I would mind a graphical improvement, of course.
All I can say is :(. Well, we can all hope for a port of some kind...

Good news. When I get my Playstation 3 in a couple years I'll have a lot to catch up on.
I'll be getting mine in a couple of months.
I might be getting mine in a year.
First stops the Wii in 2 weeks.
Though back to This game, I wasn't really impressed with the others. They were fun and all, but didn't see why so many liked them that much.
Makai Kingdom however was marvolous. I'm looking more forward to Makai Wars on PS3.
I've always wanted to try this series, I just never did. I have a horrible habit of spilling cash for Strategy-RPGs only to be reminded that I hate the genre and it makes me commit murder. I do have Phantom Brave, but that was so awful my eyes fell out of my face and became hobos. If Disgaea is like that, then no thanks X_X
I found out yesterday I was pronouncing it wrong. I was saying it Dis-guy-uh. I guess it's Dis-gay-uh. But that's funny to me, so I allow it.
Actually if you listen to the Japanese pronunciation it's "Disgaia", as in the city of Dis and the earth goddess.
The style is more like Tactics. Phantom Brave isn't as good as Disgaea by a long shot, and the system's more experimental. I'm not crazy about it, personally. If you don't like those kinds of games, it's really not for you.

I liked the sprites from the first two games, but c'mon NIS, at least make the resolution of the sprites better, those really close ones in high defiminition look horrid.
Still totally psyched for this though.

Yeah, it really wouldn't be that hard to redraw the sprites at a respectable and much larger 720p or even 1080p resolution, and it would probably be even easier to slap down some better textures on the geometry. I think Street Fighter's upcoming HD Remix is really going to set the bar that every sprite-based game should aspire to live up to.Quote:

Ive never played a Disgaea game before, are they good?. I like 2d tactical RPGs up to a point. I mean ive played Tactics, Breath of Fire and Vandal Hearts.
But I dont know, im sure they could at least start trying to make them look better. Putting these games on a PS3 or Xbox360 is kind of weird. If the game doesnt warrant a blu-ray disc than they should of just put it on a handheld like the DS or PSP and not pay a full conosle price for them. *shrug* Or maybe it will be PSN game?
