My #1 pick for this would be Dyne. They should've had a sidequest where you find him still alive at the bottom of the cliff, impaled by a fallen branch or something.
It'd be cool to get one of the Sephiroth clones but I think they're all dead.
Bugenhagen, if he had immense magic power, would be a good replacement for aeris.
Or one of the turks?
It'd be pretty cool to get the Turks on your team. Dyne would be good as well.
Rufus would be pretty cool. I mean he'd have a Shotgun and maybe some weak magic.
Bugenhagen would be hilarious. So would Don Corneo. It'd be funny if you had him in your party against Jenova and he started flirting with her. Then She left with him and they made babies.
It'd be good if Jessie, Biggs and Wedge hadn't died and one of them joined you. Or all of them.

I'd also like just 'Reeve' instead of Cait Sith... and maybe the cat could only appear in Reeve's limit breaks? Just an idea.
Don't agree with the turks, although it would be cool to have them on your side, the turks should always remain baddies and not be split up IMO.

I've always backed Bugenhagen and he obviously could of killed Sephiroth in a heartbeat with super magic conjured from the earth's minerals or something like that! A sidequest that recruits the moogle from the Choco/Mog summon (Holy crap, that means Squaresoft made a Materia that sounds like a title for a veerrry smurfing wrong fanfic...) making it so that, in future, Choco/Mog only summons Fat-Chocobo as Mog is in the party.

At least with Young Cloud they wouldn't have to make a new picture. I'm sure they could easily implement time travel in this wicked story somehow. Watching the clouds communicate wouldn't be very exciting though.
