Like the title says, what makes the average person on the street want to buy such a popular game?
...Because it's popular...?
Because it has everything an RPG should have, and more!
I bought it by accident because the cover looked cool. Got hooked ever since.
To help us escape the pain and isolation of our pitiful, meaningless existance.
Just go on to the Final Fantasy Retrospective thread and see the videos, and you'll see why. Now go! Vanish! Depart! Leave!
Because I said it was.
I first bought it because the name Final Fantasy sounded cool to me got hooked by the way.
My friend (Comet) lent me FF8 which I lost the last disc of. I'm a wonderful friend indeed.
Fortunately it was not my copy of the game, or else I would have given him a good ass whipping.
Because of FFVII. :(
Pretty much. This game got me into it, now the three NES titles (which I have to emulate because I'm european) are stopping me getting out of it.
Frankly though, the game's popularity in Japan can mainly be blamed on FF1 for having apparently been pretty ground-breaking at the time. The rest of the world? Stupid wapanese morons, that's all we are :)
Most likely because they're fun and have effective marketing.
i, and average joe on the street, first heard of it from word of mouth.
if a game gets good reviews and praise of course people are gonna want it...i like them cause the stories are so deep and the gameplay is always awesome:D
This might shed some light on the issue...;)

I heard about the series from a nagging friend who forced it down my throat... Still haven't thanked him.
