Unless you've been haxxoring that shouldn't be possible. Even if you did manage to get a BB/Master to Level 99 (I'm assuming this is DoS) then he still wouldn't have enough firepower behind him to reach anywhere near one-hit-kill Chaos. Furthermore fastidious applications of Haste and Temper still wouldn't do the trick, since the damage cap is set to 9999, whilst Chaos has substantially more HP than that. So either you're lying, you're hallucinating, you're playing a different version I've never heard of, or I'm hallucinating and I'm not really posting this right now.

The original version had 2000hp Chaos if I recall
Playstation has a 4000hp Chaos
I think DoS Chaos has 10,000 or so.
However, in DoS a black belt's damage and critical rate are nerfed from what they were in the original. From memory, a level 99 black belt in DoS equals about a level 35 black belt in the original, damage wise it seemed. A level 99 knight in DoS equals about a level 50 knight in the original, damage wise at least. I don't have access to my DoS version at the moment. I only got my Master up to level 83, but he was only doing about 700 damage at that level on the DoS. At 41, I believe the original master would be doing around 1200.
In origins, its a direct correlation in the easy version and normal version. A level 50 black belt in origins easy = a level 50 black belt in the original for the most part. So a level 99 black belt can easily get 8000damage on almost on any enemy, with no Haste/Fast or atk power increasing.
On the original a level 50 black belt with fast could "sometimes" one hit Chaos.
Critical rate is a big boost to the master in the original and the Playstation easy mode. It seems lessened in the DoS version.

Also, Origins Easy version doesn't have the 9999 limit.

i leveled up to 99 by fighting war mach's.
I've maxed the lvls of my NES Master at 50 in the past and it still wasn't a one hit kill. As Masters lvl up they gain more hits per turn rather than damage dealt per hit, so casting fast on them really isn't effective by that lvl.
? Casting fast on the playstation version changed his hits from 20 to 48....

It definitely isn't possible in the GBA version as Chaos has 20,000 HP and nothing breaks the damage limit in that.
As for the NES one, I imagine it's possible after casting a buncha buffs on one character... makes you wonder.

And I thought he gained 2 damage(attack), 2 more hits every 10~ levels, and a higher critical rate every level even in the NES version?

I went completely insane with about thirty or so turns having my Master use Giant's Gloves while my Red Mage kept casting Temper. Knight and White Wizard kept them alive during the process. I absolutely promise that I did not edit this image in any way.

As you can see, the damage cap was utterly shattered. With a bit more patience I believe this could cap 20,000, though the more you do it, the less your strength goes up: It could take well over an hour to buff his strength enough to do a one-hit kill. (I did quicksave a couple of times to look at the current damage potential)
Short version: Yes, it's possible, and I fully intend to someday do it, record a video of it and show it to you all. But first I'll need to free some space on my hard drive to record the damn thing...
I guess I need to make a RM, RM, Th, BB party, and play through until BB is 99 on origins.
But this shows what I was saying about DoS :)
DoS characters are supposed to be set against the 1-50 leveling scale, but with more HP and MP growth(or so I've been told). Their damage "should" align their 1-99 scale to the original 1-50 scale.
PS1 easy mode did not align to the 1-50 scale, and was a straight 1-99 scale, being 49 levels worth of growth, higher than any other version.
If you used 30 casts of giant's gloves, and tempering... I would reckon my 99 BB on origins would do around 80,000 just as a guess. I'll try to experiment next time I play a little on the origins version.
The other way to kill Chaos in 1 hit, on the NES version anyway, is with the BANE spell. It does actually work.

Seriously, I was playing the game in the car then I didn't want to turn it off and restart the battle so I took it in with me, I beat him while eating some chicken sticks and fried rice. :D
The damage in the DoS version is huge compared to the NES version. :eek: Well, Chaos has 2000 HP in the NES version, and 20,000 HP in the DoS version. The highest damage I've been able to do against Chaos is 3599 HP, done by a Knight in FF Origins, the Normal difficulty. I think the Knight was on level 45 or so. Chaos has 4000 HP in FF Origins, though, so that isn't enough to OHKO him. Other high damage hits: 3807 HP damage against Marilith (in Gurgu Volcano), 5368 HP damage against a Goblin. Both done by a Knight. The highest damage my White Wizard has ever done is 1255 HP damage against a Goblin.
If you were able to do 3599 HP damage to Chaos in Final Fantasy Origins (Where he has 4000 HP total), then it's entirely plausible for someone to do a one hit kill. That's only a difference of 401 HP.
