It's on some consoles. Does that mean I just can buy it for a PS3 and that's it or is it like FF11 with that weird hard drive stuff.

Elder Scrolls is actually a series of single player RPGs that feature wide open worlds and somewhat free choice with how you play the game, aside from the main quest path.
You play only with yourself and the NPCs of the Elder Scroll world(s)
Also to date,isn't it exclusively microsoft ? (pc/xbox only)

The TES series has never had an MMORPG and I hope it never will. I like the option to play a game the size of an MMORPG without it being full of other players. After all, you get a lot of players in them whose only goal is to cause trouble and disturb your enjoyment of the game.
The most online you can get is through mods, even then it's only transferring information.
They've actually mentioned they are planning to make an MMORPG of the game.
