Who bought Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings?

I bought it today! I also have a strategy guide for it plus a new white Nintendo DS Lite also. I was busy before work so I couldn't pick it up, then I was working and picked it up during my break. I'm done with work and just doing some random errands and will play it in like half an hour.

I've only seen the opening logos, opening movie, and the title screen. They are great!!!

I like the story in this game! After beating mission 1-4, one foe chases after the party and declares that he will attack them. He accidentally trips and falls down the stairs and gets knocked unconscious! :)

Is it worth it? I mean, is the story more touching and character developement deeper than in FF XII?

I downloaded it, but, unfortunately, I'm not motivated to play it after Chapter 1. I feel like I've been spoiled by FFXII.

I don't have it yet, but I think my husband is going to buy it for me. I'll definitely get it somehow.

Also, Zelda is pretty awesome. :P (You might also like Phoenix Wright, since you seem to be a big story person.)

FF XII: RW is great! Yea it's worth the money to buy it. I;m about 2 hours into it and just about to start Mission 2-4 I think. The only signifigant issue so far is that when you have a group of units do an action(move, attack, harvest, forage), they are deselected! That means you have to press X or Y with your thumb or stylus to continue your actions. Why are they deselected, what's the advantage of this? I love the game! :)

It's due out next year so I'll see about buying it then. I've got far too many books to read at the moment, but I'm definitely looking forward to it. Glad you're enjoying it, Dragonsoul.

Skyblade, about Christmas gifts, today my Aunt and Uncle asked me if there is a video game I should buy them for Christmas. I mentioned Alundra 1 to them, but later I also mentioned The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, maybe I'll get one of those from them?! Alundra 1 is definetely my next game to play after FF XII: RW, but I don't know what I am going to play after that exactly yet. :)

I'm 5:03 into the game! I just finished Mission 2-4 and Tomaj's hunts 46 & 47(yea, the first 45 are the FF XII clan hunts) and Melee Battles 2-4. So far the story is "mission based" kinda I guess. You go from mission to mission but there's story in between and movies and you can buy stuff and talk to people and other stuff. So far the sidequests I know of are: Tomaj's hunts(like the clan hunts in FF XII), Melee Battles(basically you go into a level you beat and beat it again for exp/items/equipment and to complete that Melee Battle), and Midlight's Deep dungeon, plus getting bonus items and equipment and espers.

I think this game is going to take a long time!! Maybe 40 hours?! I'm going to complete it 100%. Is there anybody here who completed the Japanese version of the game? How long did it take you and how much sidequests did you do? I really love the choice of music for the save/load game screen! It's the song that plays in FF XII when you warp to the Sochen Cave Palace orange save crystal. That song is not the Sochen Cave Palace song of the Old Archades song but a different song. I just researched to find the name of the song. It's "Time For A Rest" from Final Fantasy XII cd 3 track 16.

I really like the use so far of the Phon Coast song from Final Fantasy XII! I'm really impressed with this game. I'm happy that on the poll on the front page of Rpgamer.com, FF XII: RW beat out Mass Effect, FF XI: Wings of the Goddess, and Phantasy Star Universe: Ambition of the Illuminus in the "Thanksgiving rpg releases" poll! :)

I've heard the RTS element of Revenant Wings isn't really implemented too well, mostly due to its portable nature, and that simply rushing you enemy with a lot of units is the most effective way to win most of the time. Still, it sounds pretty fun and looks good, so I'm definitely adding it to the list and hope to play it soon.

So I went to the mall and decided to pick it up. I'm still in the tutorial part of the game so I'm not going to give a definite opinion on it yet, but it seems a little awkward so far. I have to press a button to select all of my units at once to be effective, but I'm right handed like the rest of civilized society. :P I'll probably get used to it.

It's not a bigtime real time strategy game, but super basic stuff only, and no building. This is a new genre, real time strategy rpg, so there are kinks to work out but this is a high quality game. I enjoy the battle system a lot! :)

After playing it some more I can see why people say it's easier to control your entire team as one giant mass. :P I'm getting used to it and I'm enjoying it more. I'm also happy to see that everyone's profile comes with a little extra blurb. The extras that gave so much depth to the FF XII world are back, and that's a nice bonus.

I doubt it's going to be 40 hours, though. Maybe if you read really slow. :P

I'm doing all the hunts and the melee hours. I think it's almost at 7 hours and the percentage completed it shows is almost 20%, but there may be a few hours for midlight's deep dungeon and some other extra stuff. No way I can be done by 20 hours with this game since I'm doing the extra stuff.

You can control the team at once but more damage can be taken. You have to set up the team properly with the right elements(fire, etc) and melee or ranged or flying. Then you can see a group of enemies and choose to attack with ranged fire units(Salamander) and move that group of units to the front and have them move to them to attack. Once they have a head start on the group have the entire group move in.

The enemy will attack your ranged fire units(Salamander) but they are weak against them and don't do as much damage to them, in the mean time the main group(4 other teams) move in and damage the enemy. It's a good difference.

I'm excited! :)

All I know is I've played it for, like, 6 hours and I'm a quarter of the way through the game. :P (That includes reading the extra stuff and doing the side quests)

I'm enjoying it so far. It's a nice mixture of the RTS games I'm used with a very FFT feel. I can't think of any other game that combines quite the same elements as this one.

I have to say that the graphics look a tad sloppy at times and while I'd be tempted to write it off as system limitations, I didn't see the same problem in FF III DS, which seemed to be a much larger game and more graphically intensive. You can also see some laziness in sprites that were obviously stolen directly from FFTA (though made to look much more grainy and awful). Music is also a direct rip from FFXII, though much worse in quality.

That doesn't matter so much though. I'm no graphics whore. It's expanding on the FFXII story (which was weak to begin with) in a good way (unlike the way FF X-2 did so). Overall, I think it will be a wholly enjoyable experience.

I think we often set out expectations too high and judge games only as they compare to other games or (worse) to our favorite games. While that is a reasonable way to look at games, you have to look at the other end too. There are far worse games coming out right now than FFXII:RW. I think this one is definitely worth owning.

The graphics are definitely a letdown. Well, the sprites, anyway. They're tiny but the game insists on zooming in on them constantly. The environments are very nice.

Roto13 have you done all the hunts and the melee battles that are available to you so far? The strategy guide lists all the melee battles and the hunts also. What's your exact time and the mission you just completed?

Yeargdribble this rpg subgenre is new, check out Heroes of Mana, it may be very similar. Also, the graphics may have to be small since there are many units on the screen. For the music they selected the best songs from FF XII and also added some new songs. Depending on what's happening, you'll hear different sections of each song. Also, this is written and directed by Motomu Toriyama. I notice a huge difference since the team is different. The story has positive influences and Vaan has a lot of story and Penelo also. Yea FF XII: RW is great. I don't know if there are people so far that really don't like it. Some people aren't picking it up but many people like this game a lot. The reviews are high for this game. They could get higher points if they get used to the battle system maybe? I'll have to read the reviews and find out what flaws the critics showed. Yea the FF XII world is expanded, this is great! I think I'm beating this game too fast. My next game to beat is Alundra 1 but my relatives might buy it for me for Xmas.

Yea the sprite graphics I've been told should be higher resolution but is that possible or will the game slow down? I think the sprites are good but not super great. I'm not worried, I like the monster/character designs. I'll post more info soon about this.

Each battle has me with my ranged Rank I healing esper White Hare, four of them, with Penelo. I've upgraded them to Carbuncles though. Kytes Blizzaga is powerful. I really like this game! It could end up being about as good as FF XII. One thing is that the story in FF XII: RW is much better so far than in FF XII I think. FF XII: RW's story is written by Motomu Toriyama(director FF X, FF X-2, FF XIII). FF XII's story is written by Yasumi Matsuno and Daisuke Watanabe and Miwa Shoda.

I thought Melee Battles were just what you find when you go to an area without a mission. Can't you do them as many times as you want?

Melee Battle is this...

You beat a level/mission and sometimes(not all the time) a "Melee Battle" is unlocked. This means that you go back to that area and complete a battle there, which doesn't have a story. You get experience, items, equipment, materials, auricite, and gold. You can do these Melee Battle's as many times as you want once that specific one is unlocked. Not all areas/missions will unlock a "Melee Battle" there. Also, sometimes there is more than one version of a Melee Battle in that area. You need to complete the Melee Battle atleast once if you are going for a 100% completion of the game. So far almost all the melee battles are in an area where you just completed a mission there that's part of the story and after that the melee battle(s) there are unlocked. I think there has been two places where there are melee battles and there wasn't any story for that area I think.

Melee Battles are done along with Tomaj's hunts. As you beat a mission/area, sometimes a hunt from Tomaj is unlocked. You go to an area and there is a story for this "hunt" there and you complete it, and it adds to the story. That hunt can be only done once but if there is a melee battle in that area you can go there as often as you want. There are like 40 hunts or something.

The game is great! I've spent some time recently on it and I've taken the DS to work to play with it during my breaks. All three people I've shown the game to(Uncle, coworker 1, coworker 2) all said that the game had very impressive graphics. I only showed them the opening movie 1, title screen, and opening movie 2 though. I'm pretty happy about FF XII: RW as you can tell. I think it could be better than FF XII possibly. The main reason for that so far is that I really like the story in FF XII: RW so far and I think it's better than FF XII probably.

The more I play this game, the less I like it. It's like I spend half of my time arguing with my characters to get them to do what I want. Penelo refuses to use Curaga even though it's set to a gambit, Vaan likes to run off ahead and get himself killed faster than I can revive him, and what's-her-face (the new girl) is... pretty much useless. She breaks like glass at the slightest bit of impact.

Speaking of gambits, why is it that in a game where you control 30 characters at the same time, I only get one incredibly basic gambit for each leader? Why do I have to manually cast all but one spell for my black mage? If I don't give him the specific command to use another spell while his gambit spell is recharging, he just sits there shooting pathetic little fire balls.

On top of that, it's repetitive. It's like trance music in video game form. There are lots of different objectives, but they basically all boil down to "Wander through the level swarming everything with your giant mass of ugly-ass monsters." The little variety that IS there usually means you have to protect some npc that's too stupid to know what's good for it. I actually went through a mission earlier today where I had to keep two aegyl warriors alive, but one of them would just fly off ahead of the rest of my party (where the only one with any chance of following him is Llyud, the only flying character I use if I can help it) to take on, like, five monsters by himself. Of course that never works.

Since I don't care about the story, the only reason I can think of to continue is the fact that I spent $40 on this game.

While I won't disagree with the flaws cited by Roto, I'm still enjoying the game quite a bit. I'm less concerned about length as I notice the % gauge filling up at a much slower pace as I go. I feel like I'm starting to get into the meat of things. I understand the system better and the battles no longer allow me to simply zerg rush all the time. I actually have to be a bit active and much more concerned with strategy including picking a good troupe of espers that are appropriate.

Another criticism I have as it goes on is the story. It seems to attempt to one-up the childishness of FFTA. The characters speak to one another as if they were 5. Often it feels like filler text with a rough outline of some type of moral you'd expect to pick up from some young children's programming. "As long as we're together it will all be okay! I hope things never change!" ... please gag me. The story seems to have some potential when I manage to look beyond that.

Yea the game has some flaws but I believe at it's core it's extremely enjoyable for me and the flaws it does have don't bother me too much. The rpgamer review came out and it's a pretty extensive review.

I'm 20 hours into FF XII: RW and it says I completed 50% of the missions/hunts/melee battles. I'm spending too much time on this game I'm playing it 2.5 hours a day right now! I'll be done after 40-45 hours(yea it's a long DS rpg!).

So far for FF XII: RW I give it 10/10 scores each for Graphics, Sound, Story, and Characters. For Controls and Battle System I give them each 8/10. If you want to add more points to the review then I have more. For "Polish" I could give it 9/10 and for "Length/Sidequests" I give it 10/10 so far. I've given you a basic idea of the high quality of FF XII: RW! :)

I've had the japanese version for a while. FMVs are great, gameplay is just too kiddie like for me

I've been thinking about it, and I think that FF XII: RW is nearly as good as Final Fantasy XII was. That's an incredible accomplishment!! Remember that Final Fantasy XII is as bigtime as rpg's get, was on a console, was over 200 hours long, had a five year developmental cycle, and had the Yasumi Matsuno team developing it. FF XII: RW is a Nintendo DS rpg which was developed partly by Square Enix and partly by Think & Feel Inc, a company with less experience developing ultimate rpg's. I just finished Chapter 7(of 10) of FF XII: RW and it's an amazing experience! I suggest everybody drop what you are doing and get this game right now, you won't regret it! :)

Even if you still like the game, you have to admit, the controls suck balls :P

I have to say that the controls are slightly too cumbersome for an RTS. You just can't possibly get around the controls fast enough and much of each character's potential is lost because they are sitting around doing stupid things (hi2u Kytes).

You either need to be able to control the special moves of your leaders more quickly, or more gambit options should have been added.

This doesn't really destroy the game for me and it's still fun. It's just frustrating at times when I know I could've won a battle if I'd just had better control options.

Yea the controls/battle system need a little improvement but for me it's not huge. I'm extremely happy with the story and characters, which is very important.

Here's a quick tip. You have gambits set up for each character. Right now I have these gambits enabled during an attack...

Vaan - Dual Attack(Big single enemy attack)
Penelo - Curaga(Heals allies in range, yea it's supposed to be Curaja!)
Kytes - Blizzaga/etc(Big area effect magic)
Filo - Sonic Wave(Big area effect attack)
Lluyd - Jump(Big area effect attack)

But when there is no attack going on, you don't need to have attack gambits on, just change them to gambits that boost your status, like these...

Vaan - Sprint(Increase movement speed)
Penelo - Mystic/War Dance(Increase Faith or Bravery respectively)
Kytes - Charge(Increase power of next magic spell)
Filo - Glide(Increase group's movement speed)
Lluyd - Vanishga(Make all allies in range invisible)

Right before a battle, change the gambits back to the other version. This strategy works good. If you try to manually select the abilities and then select a target, it takes longer and it may not work if the target is too far away. If you just change the gambits, it works automatically and it takes less time.

Don't forget to target enemies with your proper units(Melee Water, etc). Don't forget to pull back allies if they are low on HP. Also, make sure to use "Fortify Esper" and keep summoning Espers! I've gotten used to the battle system, I like it! Also, don't forget to use your quickenings and to revive your leaders immediately if they get KO'ed! :D

See, that stuff is all really really obvious. :P The thing is, you shouldn't NEED to constantly be changing your gambits like that. Hell, if there was even one more gambit for character, the game would be so much more fun.

I'd rather just set my gambits as attacks and use support abilities manually, if I can't have them both set at the same time, though.

just finished chapter one, I know haven't seen much to give it a proper review, but the characters seem to take more of an active role in this game by way of the programmed bubble dialogs. The story seems to be really strong in this game. Yes, the sprites are tiny, and the movement somewhat slow, but I still enjoy this game a lot...maybe because I just realized I wasted good money on call of duty ds only to beat it within a day...great graphics with a meat head story line.:D

The sprites are tiny I think because there are tons of them on the screen often, and it would be weird to have them big. The story is great! Motomu Toriyama was the scenario writer. I like the ethics in the story, it reminds me of Eternal Sonata. The characters move a little slow but it's not too big of an issue for me.

The ends of Chapter 6 and Chapter 7 were pretty insane! I'm really excited by the story, it's really great. :D

I love this game. It's extremely fun. If there's one thing Toriyama knows how to do; it's make a fun game. Two things that everybody rags on this game are the controls, and the deselection; which in my opinion isn't as bad as it was brought out to be. I haven't really had a problem with anything, or been frustrated. The dialouge is clever; the story is simple, but doesn't butcher FFXII's. Not that there was a lot to butcher. But yeah, I bought this game thinking the worst, and it totally exceeded my expectations.

Anyway, question. For my Esper battle party, am I only allowed a max of three Rank II Espers? I thought it would grow the more Espers I obtained, but I have a few Rank III's now, and it hasn't.

You can only have up to 3 rank II Espers. You can have up to 5 rank I espers and up to 1 rank iii esper, but that rank iii esper doesn't appear automatically at the start of the battle but must be summoned at a gate if there is one.

Yea, there are some issues with the controls and battle system but they aren't huge for me. I was extremely excited for this game and it's exceeded my expectations! :)

I just finished Chapter 8! After this I talked to everybody in the Bridge and Sky Saloon sections of the airship, upgraded my equipment, and beat the two Melee Battles at Feol Warren. NINE new Tomaj Hunts just opened up!! I am going to beat all nine of them before I start Chapter 9. The characters are talking like I'm almost done with the game. I have to beat two more chapters, more hunts, more melee battles, the bonus dungeon Midlight's Deep, and some other stuff before I finish the game. I'm 76% done with the missions/hunts combined it says, and I'm 35:16 into the game. The game may take 45 hours to finish with 100% completion. Could it take close to 50 hours? We'll see, the game is pretty long for a DS rpg. I got a little confused on the story but I got some clarification recently from the characters. I'm going to work hard and beat this game. I think that the faster I beat the game(up to a max of 3 hours a day), the more fun it is, because then I don't lose track of the story and forget what happened earlier in the game, like if I had only played half an hour a day. After beating this game there's a book I am going to finish reading, and hopefully I'll get Alundra 1(1998 PS 1 action rpg) for Christmas! Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings is great!!! :)

I am 41:09 into the game and have completed 92% of the Missions and Tomaj Hunts. I just finished Chapter 9. I finished all 32 Melee Battles. I finished 32 Tomaj Hunts so far.

I have to complete 4 more Tomaj Hunts. I have to complete the 10 floor Midlight's Deep Dungeon. I have to complete Chapter 10, which is three missions long. The game is going to be nearly 50 hours long for a 100% completion rate!!

I still stand by the earlier ratings I gave to the game, which I'll post again here...

Again, I'm extremely happy about the quality of this game! Is there anybody here who has beaten the Usa version of this game with 100% completion rate(all 32 Melee Battles, all 36 Tomaj Hunts, all 10 floors of Midlight's Deep Dungeon) yet? I think I'm going to be on the earlier side of the scale as far as how long it takes for people to beat it. I didn't beat Final Fantasy XII until early November of this year(about 90% completion rate) but I'm going to beat Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings in three weeks with a 100% completion rate! Everybody, please post your thoughts on the final stages of this game and your experiences with it! :)

The final ultimate missions require some leveling up. I tried to beat it and work hard but I need to level up more. Luckily each time I complete the final(#32) melee battle, atleast one character levels up. Also, it only takes 10 minutes to beat that. I'm working on preparing for the Wings of Midnight hunt. In this one I have to defeat Titan, Ramuh, Shiva, Ifrit, and then Bahamut!!!

I've got four hunts to do and then the final 3 story missions. After that the 10 level Midlight's Deep Dungeon opens up. Ok, the game is going to take 55 hours maybe!! The game is great, I'm really excited about it. I hope I don't have to level up for more than another hour, because I want to continue the game and finish this levelling up. Also, it's annoying that Balthier and Fran haven't had many great Gambits in the early/mid stages of the game. Because of this I didn't level them up as much and use them. Now I'm at the end and they are about 5-8 levels behind the other characters and still need to get 2 Gambits for them. I want to continue levelling up and playing this game! :)

The time to beat this game keeps going up! I levelled up for an hour yesterday and was finally able to beat the 3rd and 4th to last hunts. Now I have two more hunts, some levelling, then the 10 level Midlight's Deep Dungeon, and the final three story missions. The game may take 60 hours for 100% completion! I'm trying to remember how many hours for the main part of the story, maybe 30?

my ds just came back about an hour ago, so i finally got to try it. I'm not very far into it, first few missions, but I have to say this game is amazing.

buying is such an objective term.. more like enjoying a back-up.. without the origional

Ok, I finished my task of repeatedly levelling up in the final Melee Battle at the Gate of Shattered Time. I finished some hunts so I only have two left. I'm in the Midlight's Deep Dungeon. I finished the first 7 out of 10 floors! So far they had some challenges but weren't extremely hard yet. I will finish this Dungeon and the final two hunts. Then I'll do some random final stuff and finish the last 3 missions of the game. This is a 60 hour game with all sidequests and maybe 30 hours with none of them. How long was Zelda: PH with/without sidequests?

^Right now I think I'm on chapter 4 (whtever Savegery), mission 1 and I'm definately feeling your review for the game. RPGs and RTS are probably my 2 favorite genres, and I was skeptical at first at how this game would play out, but the team far exceeded my expectations.

This game is representative on how the DS is a system that really challenges the creativity of the developers, and allows them to provide a gaming experience you couldn't accomplish on traditional NES-derived systems. The use of storytelling in RTS format makes it a great RPG, and it feels alot like FFXII. The incorporation of FFXII's music was done flawlessly IMO, and it makes the game that much better.

Another cause for skepticism was that most FF fans mostly are wary of sequels, but again, it was pulled off perfectly and then some. I really look forward to seeing more of the returning cast, not to mention having Ba'Gamnan on my team for these missions is a delightful surprise.

I have to say, since being deemed the "Pre-eminent developer at Square Enix", Akitoshi Kawazu is 2 for 2 with XII and now this, and since I'm considering getting a ps3 soon, I'm really looking forward to the Last Remnant. This game is easy to pick up, yet it is able to remain challenging. I'll probably give another review after beating it, but I'm gonna take my time and not rush through it. So far, it's been great!

I can't wait to get this game. I might import it from the USA using Ebay.

This game is pretty insane! I just beat Yiazmat!!! :)

I finished the ten floor ultimate Midlight's Deep Dungeon. The final level has the Yiazmat boss. Yiazmat was tough, but my strategy was good. Using Odin helped me out, yes Odin is an Esper, hooray!

Now I have to finish the last two Tomaj Hunts, just do some quick preparations, then the final three story missions. I think the game will take 58 hours! :)

Tomorrow night I will complete the game! I am 55:33 into the game, with just the three story missions to go(Missions 10-1 to 10-3). Oh, I've beaten all the Tomaj Hunts, Melee Battles, and the Midlight's Deep Dungeon. I've leveled up, learned all magic, and learned all quickenings. I got a ton of money and auricite and material, and all Espers. I got the best Weapons and Armor and all the Accessories. I got all the Mementos. I'll have a truly 100% completion on the game, which will get me the Hidden Secret Ending!!! There are many Rank III Espers but I think the most powerful and ultimate ones are: Odin, Gilgamesh, Zodiark, and Bahamut. Also, I think that Yiazmat is the toughest boss I've fought yet. Odin and Bahamut are my favorite Espers!

I still stand roughly by my specific ratings for the game I posted. I'll finalize those ratings once I finish the game though. Most aspects of the game's design are perfect. A few aspects have some flaws but are still very high quality. Overall the game is fantastic! I'm listening to the music from the Ring of Pacts section of the game menu, it's great. Especially once you get to the "chorus" of the song, where it gets ultimate! Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings is legendary! I've had a really great time with this game!! Has anybody else here finished the English version of the game with a truly 100% completion rate, beating all sidequests and all the other random stuff? What does everybody think of the game?

I finished missions 10-1 and 10-2 and am right about to complete the final mission. It's Mission 3 - "Revenant Wings". The name of the mission is the name of the game! Anyways, my Leaders will be: Vaan, Penelo, Kytes, Lluyd, and Filo. I wanted to use the five main characters. The strategy guide recommends those but Basch instead of Vaan, for Basch's Apocalypse Shield quickening. For my Espers I have Bahamut(Rank III, Non-Elemental, Flying), Carbuncle(Rank II, Healing, Ranged), Wyvern(Rank II, Fire, Flying), Aquarius(Rank I, Water, Flying), and Quetzalcoatl(Rank I, Lightning, Ranged). I won't use the last two Espers, I'll dismiss them and summon more Wyverns instead, but Aquarius and Quetzacoatl still have the fortune of being chosen as benchwarmers for the final battle! Ok, this final battle is going to be pretty insane, I'm excited~! Is anybody online right now reading this? I'll tell you more information when I finish the game tonight! :)

I tried to beat the final level but it was harder. Since I have a 100% mission completion rate, the level of the enemies is higher. So now I'm going to level up for a couple hours and maybe I can beat the game tomorrow night instead. :)

I'm at the beginning of chapter six right now. This game is really fun. The story is so much better than the one in XII. :)

I beat the game! I beat Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings!!! :)

It took 68 hours for a truly 100% completion rate! I had to level up my characters continously in the Midlight's Deep Dungeon(50,000 exp for main 5 characters and 10,000 exp for the other 4 characters). I used: Lluyd, Filo, Kytes, Penelo, and Basch. Filo was at a lower level than the others but the top 4 I had at an average of level 76.5! That levelling up took a while, because I wanted to be properly prepared for the final battle. Also, I completed all the Recipes for forging weapons!

Here's a tip, in the final two chapters, focus on levelling up those 5 characters I listed specifically. This is because those are the characters that you will use in the final battle, and you don't want them to be far behind the other characters in development. They should be high, around level 70 maybe. Also, you are going to need some Gems(Materials) for each of the four main elements to use the Recipes for forging the ultimate weapons. Even completing everything you will not get enough of it. What you need to do is level up at Midlight's Deep Dungeon and complete the first 6 levels. The 6th level has treasure chests that gives you those Gems, which you need. After beating the 6th level, you can start over, or complete the final four. Completing the final four levels of Midlight's Deep Dungeon will take longer than doing the first six. At the end of Level 10 you beat Yiazmat, get a huge upgrade(this is repeatable) for Vaan's ultimate sword Anastasia, and get some of those Gems. If you are not worried about the Anastasia upgrade and just want to quickly get levels and Gems, just repeat the first 6.

The final level was amazing! It's a two part level called "Revenant Wings". The first half of it is the main part of it. Use Lluyd, Filo, Kytes, Penelo, and Basch, with all the top equipment. I used for Espers Bahamut, Wyvern, and Carbuncles. Don't use Rank I Espers. Fortify all three of those Espers four or five times. In the start of the level dismiss your Rank I espers. Then summon Bahamut into Basch's group, it'll be those two in a group. I gave Penelo four or five Carbuncles. Kytes was by himself. Lluyd and Kytes both have tons of Wyverns. Have everybody attack the left arm of Feolthanos and the monsters summoned there. Have Basch and Bahamut stand closer to the stairs though. Basch and Bahamut can fend off attackers by themselves, as the enemy Espers approach them from the stairs and from the right arm. Yea, Basch and Bahamut are extremely powerful in FF XII: RW. As Lluyd and Filo get their Quickenings, dismiss their Wyverns and put them into another person's group, one at a time, so that all five leaders get their Quickenings. Save all those Quickenings for later. Once you beat the left arm move to the right arm of Feolthanos. Have Basch stand near the stairs with Bahamut and fend off monsters coming down the stairs. Have Lluyd, Filo, and Kytes attack the right arm and the monsters nearby it. Have Penelo between those three and Basch, healing everybody. After beating both arms and disabling both enemy summoning gates, fortify all three Espers you are using four or five times and make sure all five characters have Quickenings. Don't forget to immediately revive leaders if they die. If Penelo and Lluyd both die, you probably will need to restart the level, don't let them both die.

Next, have Lluyd and Filo's group climb the stairs and attack Feolthanos' torso and the monsters summoning their. Watch them! When monsters appear, attack them one by one until they are gone, then continue attacking Feolthanos. Oh, also you should have moved Bahamut from Basch's group to either Filo or Lluyd's group. While Filo/Lluyd's groups are on the stairs, have Penelo and her Carbuncles and Kytes and Basch stand on the ground to the right of the platform. They should not be in the top floor or the stairs or at the bottom of the stairs, but at the ground to the right of Feolthanos. They can heal the allies and do ranged attacks. Watch Feolthanos' HP. When it gets to 60%, move either Filo or Lluyd's group next to Penelo/Kytes/Basch, and out of the way. Move the group that doesn't have Bahamut, I'll explain why. Leave the Bahamut group to attack Feolthanos. When Feolthanos gets to 50% HP he'll summon an enemy Bahamut and other Monsters. Immediately(Immediately!) when this happens, have the Bahamut group run quickly away down the stairs and to where everybody else are, they should not be at the bottom of the stairs but where the other allies are. After commanding them to move, use three Quickenings! Use the ones for Basch(protection), Filo(Haste), and Lluyd(Fortify Espers) immediately!! Feolthanos will shoot out his ultimate attack of a white light in a line extending from him, which does extreme damage. It kills or severely damages anything in it's pathway. If you are not levelled up and not fortified or have low HP, everybody could die all at once! That's why you need to level up before this battle, fortify your espers in the battle, select the proper leaders and Espers, prepare your Quickenings and use your status enhancing abilities. Move everybody out of the way, and lure the enemy Bahamut and his group out to fight you. Use Kytes Quickening on Bahamut. Don't use Penelo's Quickening yet, even if many Espers have died or have low HP. After Bahamut is gone and those Monsters die, use all your Status enhancing abilities to power yourself up. Then wait until Feolthanos uses his White Light type attack, then once he did that, go up the stairs and attack him. Leave Penelo and her Carbuncles and Kytes and Basch in the hiding place to the right of Feolthanos on the ground, to use their ranged attacks and not be harmed. Have Lluyd and Filo's group of Wyverns and Bahamut and those two go up the stairs and attack Bahamut. Make sure you keep summoning Espers and fortifying them. Feolthanos will hit you with his ultimate attack. Once he does that, immediately(immediately!) use Penelo's Quickening, which you have wisely saved until now. Then continue to hit Feolthanos and beat the level!

Then you get to the second half of the level. The part right before the fight is extremely ultimate and reminds me of when you talk to Kefka before beating Final Fantasy VI. You start out using only Vaan to attack Feolthanos. Use Vaan's steal abilities on Feolthanos. When Vaan gets to 50% hp all 8 other leaders appear and you all attack Feolthanos in his final form. This battle doesn't take long. Just make sure not to let Vaan die. Also, use Vaan's abilities. The ending of the game is extremely ultimate and one of the very best ever. The final cutscene is great and gives ultimate cool info. We may get a sequel!

I think this game may be better than Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings, and I mean overall not just a pound for pound comparison considering that FF XII: RW is a DS game and FF XII is a PS 2 game. FF XII: RW may be overall better than FF XII! It's an amazing game, and my earlier ratings I gave to FF XII: RW still apply...

The game took 68 hours with 100% sidequests and completion rate! At the end of the game it lists your mission completion rate, Ring of Pacts completion rate, and Recipe completion rate. Get all Recipes! It's part of the 100% completion rate requirements. Get those Gem Materials at Midlight's Deep floor 6 and floor 10. Also there are some Gems in the final Melee Battles on Ivalice I think. I rate games out of 7 stars and I give this game a 6 out of 7 stars. It actually wasn't too far from 7 stars, just needed better controls/battle system basically. The Polish rating was 9/10 mainly because you had to buy and sell stuff one at a time, and all other rpg's have you able to do multiple sales at one time. I've only given 6 games 7 out of 7 stars by the way. This game was amazing and I beat it just on time, Christmas Eve, considering my relatives might have bought me a game for Christmas(Alundra 1, FF I(PSP), or FF Tactics(PSP)). But I am on vacation and won't get their present until a week and a half probably, so I'll read in the meantime I think.

My final thoughts are that this game was legendary and I loved every minute of it! Everybody who loves Rpg's should drop what they are doing and buy this game. Even people who don't follow rpg's but have a DS should try this game also. I wish their was a sequel to this game, hopefully there will be one. The final battle was so fun that I think that I'll continue to beat it just for fun. It reminds me of the Final Fantasy VI final battle, it was so cool! I love Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings!!! :)!!!

I got the game for Christmas. So far, it's great. I've completed Chapter 5, and I'm working on the monster melees that were unlocked before moving on to Chapter 6 (I've already completed all the missions, including recruiting Ultima and Hashmal). The group dynamics are a little too structuredd for my taste, with no way to dynamically group, select all of one type of unit, select all leaders only, etcetera.

I am also upset at how Exp gimped Penelo is. Consistently getting at least a thousand less Exp than your other leaders is ridiculous, I don't care if she can't attack.

Kytes is insanely overpowered, with his elemental AOEs and Bio, he can kill groups ten plus levels above him just by casting and running, though somehow Vaan still winds up with more Exp than him. Those calculations are screwy.

The characters are quite fun, the plot is engaging, and the graphics are nice. Overall, it's a fun game that I really enjoy, it just suffered a bit from the DS's limited controls.

It's a good game IMO. It has strategy, nice character development, and good graphics. I love controlling characters with my stylus =)However, I'm currently having trouble in Chapter 7-4

It's out in February, and I think Ashe and Basch do get a little intimate in this game. But that's just a presumption, and an account taken from various sources.

I brought it last week and I dont know why but Im stuck with the missions. Im not getting used with fighting with the stylus.

This is great! Finally more people are getting into this game. I finished it on the 24th though. I'm busy messing around with my PSP right now. I hope there is a sequel to this game, if it's high quality.

FFXII and Revenant Wings already exists in the same continuity as Tactics and Vagrant Story, so I guess those are already sequels of sorts. I wouldn't overly mind another sequel actually, as long as it didn't have any (or very few) reoccurring characters from any of the previous Ivalice games. However, I would say that with what is virtually the departure of Yasumi Matsuno from Square-Enix it's unlikely they'll be any form of follow up at all.

Matsuno left!? That's disastrous, I can't believe he left. Damn.

Is that the one where you fight the Scion Ultima??? It is a very hard hunt, and I found myself stuck on it for a bit. What I did was complete all the melee battles in all the locations I had on the map to level up, gain auracite, and gather materials for Cu Sith's weaponsmithing. You might not have to do all of them, but I'm sure if you check the levels of your party and enemies on that one, they're probably alot higher.

Right now I'm on the 10th chapter, 91% i think... I've completed 2 tomaj hunts, 1 where you battle actual people in the keep of forgotten time, and then the one with the un-mastered Yarhi. I've tried the midlight deep series of missions (got stuck on the 3rd or 4th one) and the one where you fight all of the Eternal's Scions, they're both real hard. I'll probably try to finish the other ones/do some other things, but this game has proved challenging in certain parts, really not bad for an RTS, especially considering its a japanese RPG team who made it. Might post a full review when I'm done...

Use melee fire and flying fire espers. Use ranged earth espers. If you want you can just run straight to the solid stone material node and scavenge it to win. You could distract the monsters while a flying group scavenges. Watch out for the Minotaur, it's strong.

FF XII: RW was so ultimate that maybe a sequel could be a let down, but I don't know, maybe not. Think & Feel Inc is the company that did most of the work with Square Enix, not sure what they are doing now.

On Sunday I got Final Fantasy Tactics for the PSP! It's ultimate! I beat it once in 1998 for PS 1, and I read the script in Spring of 2006. It's one of the six games I've given a perfect score to, it's #6 on my favorite games list. So far the game is extremely ultimate and yes, it's better than Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings in my opinion!

I recently upgraded Ramza, the main character to a Monk class. Ramza's killing everybody! I got an Archer, a Thief, White Mage, Black Mage, and two Squires which I haven't levelled up recently. I have Delita currently as an Archer, since I wanted him also to be on the physical fighting half of the job chart with Ramza but on a different part of it.

I got FF Tactics as a gift, it's great! My next game will probably be Alundra 1, although I'm definetely getting FF Tactics A2 the day it comes out(April or May it'll be out).

I got the game and a DS yesterday. I was a bit sceptical as I am not really in to the cute cartoony chibi-style of games, but I loved this game instantly! The graphics was better than I thought, and I loved the fact that they used a lot of the same music! I am still only in the first chapter, but I love it already. :D

Tabris, I totally agree with you there. I was dubious over some of the elements included in the game, especially the battle controls with integrating the use of the stylus all the time to order around your party. I found it quite annoying how they disobey you at times and give you hassle, sometimes even running off to pursue an enemy without your permission : (

The game really picks up later on though, once you get into the swing of things you're automatically be addicted and won't be able to put the damn game down! I love it now, level grinding takes a long time but it's worth it mainly because buffing up your party gives a nice sense of sweet satisfaction. I also admire how the characters are so upbeat and positive, not depressing or dumb, but they speak sense at times unlike what Vaan used to do in the previous game.

Anyway, great game, I'm not surprised why you love it.

I was really skeptical of this game, because I didn't like FFXII. However, when I saw how massive the strategy guide for the game was, I started to think it wouldn't be as unimpressive as I thought. I decided to buy the game (the cutesy graphics won me over) and it is much better than I expected. I just finished chapter 2.

Alternative way of doing that mission: As I like to kill all the enemies, and gather all the materials, I had to develop another way of finishing that mission. The Minotaurs are insanely powerful, but they are no match for Kyte's magic, and the little guy can kill them with a little help from his team. Use Poison on them, and run away. The Minotaurs will follow him forever and will catch him the next time he casts or when , so you need something to sacrifice to block them. Take one of your level 1 Espers that you don't mind losing and have it attack the Minotaurs after they've been poisoned, while Kytes is still casting/running. When the level 1 Esper is close to dying, make sure Kytes is well away from the Minotaurs. They'll just stop and sit there, letting Kytes' spells (you can get off at least 3 from the initial pull to the death of the sacrificial Esper, without getting Kytes death aggro) recharge, then rinse and repeat. I lost two level 1 Espers before the party died, but I killed all the Minotaurs. It was fun.

I am now done with chapter two (I was in chapter two when I wrote my first post here, I just remembered incorrectly), and the final mission/fight in chapter two was hard, long and very, very satisfying! Yes, I am hooked. I am now levelling before starting the plot missions in chapter three, as I gather that would be a wise move. ;)

I agree about the last mission in chapter 2.I think i failed 4-5 times before finally succeeding.Right now i'm also leveling before chapter 3.Does anyone else find the Atomos squads a bit too hard to beat in Sky Pirate Melee?They are level 14 and my highest level members are lv 11...
I also agree with Hazzard and you Tabris about the Espers not always obeying their leaders commands and yes they are a bit difficult to manouver.I find that VERY annoying!

I'm nearing the end towards Chapter Four now and I'm thoroughly enjoying the game. It seems the problem with espers wandering away becomes insignificant if you just keep on clicking at the place where you're directing them to go to. I find it slightly annoying that I have to cast spells manually sometimes, and that the magic takes like two minutes to actually be conjured - You're characters just keep battering away at their foes without really following orders most of the time, that's how I came by a string of KO's in Chapter Three.

Llyud's Revive is a lifesaver! To be honest, so far only Lluyd, Penelo and Kytes are really effective in this game, the other three including Vaan can only really buff up your party. Nothing else really.

BTW, what level should I be to finish Chapter Four?

I might pick up this game. I am used to having spinoff titles like this mailed to me from third parties, but I never got this one. I am glad that its marketing was not hyped or else we'd have to have created another forum just for this title, and it doesn't seem to be a discussion-generating title.

I beat the game on Christmas Eve, with a 100% completion rate. I'm still pretty excited about this game, it was so amazing! Currently I'm playing Final Fantasy Tactics(PSP) and Warcraft 3: Reign of Chaos. I'm not going for a true 100% FF T completion rate, that would take dozens of hours more than I want, but I'll do all the important stuff that I like. After this I'm going to play Alundra 1 and Final Fantasy Tactics A2, plus the Warcraft 3 expansion pack The Frozen Throne, and the custom scenarios.

I'm waiting for Starcraft 2 hopefully later this year, plus eventually FF XIII, FF Versus XIII, and FF Agito XIII. :)

Still working on completing it. Due to the problems with level grinding, I've slowed down a little bit (the sidequests after you leave Ivalice get annoyingly high leveled: level 65 [and a couple 99] mobs versus my level 40 or so characters). But, I should beat it fairly soon, and then I'll have more to say about it.

I just want to chime in and confirm that I still hate this game.

On top of that, it's repetitive. It's like trance music in video game form. I actually went through a mission earlier today where I had to keep two aegyl warriors alive, but one of them would just fly off ahead of the rest of my party (where the only one with any chance of following him is Llyud, the only flying character I use if I can help it) to take on, like, five monsters by himself. Of course that never works.

Since I don't care about the story, the only reason I can think of to continue is the fact that I spent $40 on this game.

I did eventually just stop playing it.

I am now at the start of chapter seven, and I absolutely love this game. I am definitly playing this through to the end, and I think it's a wonderful game - very fun, the plot is starting to get really interesting and it's scaringly addictive.

i just heard that you can exit a battle, which means that there is a small chance i might actually pick up the game again.

OMG i never even knew that. I agree with Tabris, I've reached chapter 5 and things are increasingly getting more interesting, the storyline is captivating and the game is terrifyingly addictive.
