Not that there's much point to this thread anyway. We're all saddened and outraged that the little girl was killed, and we're none of us going to say videogames had anything to do with it, the thread will probably degenerate into poor taste or petty bickering, and it'll eventually either fall off the front page or it'll get closed.
So I'm going tohijack the threadsegue into a somewhat-related thing I wrote a few weeks back: Here's a paradox.
Is it fair for us to act like games are nearly meaningless in one moment and claim they can be the equal of the finest in film and literature the next?
Sure it's fair. Movies, music, sculputres, paintings, etc. don't cause otherwise-sane people to kill each other either.

I've only played a few of the Mortal Kombat games myself, all the fatalities were amusing and hilarious. I only like a few of the characters though. D=
I played MKII and MKDA and that's about it.
Anyway, 48 years, blah blah blah.
Who knows the actors that were in the original MK games? Perhaps a demonstration on those teens is in order?
I can't believe that those teens would be dumb enough to kill someone by acting out moves from a video game, even if they were drunk. 48 years in prison for those boys is more like a reward for them. They deserve much harsher than that. I don't mind it at all when people injure and kill themselves when they're drunk, (I'd actually encourage them to do that. It'd lower the amount of bad and useless people we have in the world) but killing others in their drunkenness really infuriates me.
And I seriously can't believe that you people actually made jokes about it on EoFF. It's one thing if it didn't actually happen (although it'd still make me mad) but it's just sick how you're enjoying this. Would you be laughing if the person killed was someone that was close to you? At least show a little respect to the death of the innocent people.
This thread saddens me. I mean, she's just a little girl! It's sick. :'(
