So my friends and I were discussing FF and how many of the characters have alot of bad things happen to him. So it turned into a discussion of which FF character had the most :skull::skull::skull::skull: happen in there lives. So who do you think suffered the most? Who handled it the best? Who would you buy a drink for if you met them in a bar and heard there sob story?
Probably Cyan... He got it pretty rough and he was one of my favorite characters to use in the game, so yeah...
Garnet.
Her mother and people were killed when she was just a baby.
Then her horn was cut off.
Her foster mother, the only mother she knew, was turned into a tyrant monster who everyone she met thought was a brutal insane despot. She also gets the privelege of being helpless to save her second mother and watching her die.
She then finally inherits the burden of being Queen and helping to lead her people, only to see her kingdom and people get wasted before her eyes.
Finally, her mother's soul adds to the power of a madman who will kill everything and everyone.
I also think cyan had it pretty rough.
Aerith lived in the slums, had powers she didn't understand, was the last of her kind, sold flowers for 1 gil when she totally could have gotten 2, was chased around by people with badly translated sentences that were rather odd, and then got stabbed through the best with a large katana-penis. She makes me sad :sad:
Now this is true, but Garnet had a very happy ending, she got the man she loved, and her kingdom appeared to repair itself.Quote:

By the end of the game, he'd accepted and transcended their deaths. They weren't coming back to life, but he was at peace, as they wanted him to be.

I think he really overcame their deaths when you get him back in your party. He tells Lola the truth and advises her to move on as he pledges to do the same. Although he does still seem to still be terrorized by the past during the Doma castle sidequest, I like to think he gets the Alexander as a token of their memory and continues to move on.
Of the games I've played, I'd say Cloud had the most crap. Tidus probably dealt with his the best, though :p

I'd say Ramza. Born in a noble family with the pressure of living up to its name, he's disliked by his oldest brother cause he's the child of a second marriage and not considered true blood, makes several mistakes in his youth trying to live up to his family name which results in the death of his best friends sister and the ending of his friendship with Delita. Joins a mercenary guild in disgrace only to have its leader betray him and try to kill him. Hell, he's betrayed by almost everyone... Saves the world and never gets credit for it, instead he's criminalized and the few people who try to tell his tale are killed for it. Granted he's happy by the end cause he has the satisfaction of knowing he did the right thing. He never fought for glory or revenge, and unlike most other FF characters, his life is almost completely destroyed to obtain his goal.
He was the character my friends and I unanimously agreed upon. I'd easily buy him a drink if I met him in a bar. After that sob story, I wouldn't even care if its happy hour or not.;)

Squall didn't have it so rough unless I missed something.
He just was brought up in an Orphanage and grew dependent on a girl who eventually left and then he was left all alone in the rain to give heartstring-tugging lines of dialog to no one.
I'd like to add that Celes though far from having suffered the most, has it dramatised such a way that I really feel sorry for her.
Thats why he wasn't in my list of those with the hardest lifes. At least not the first few I mentioned. :PQuote:

But what about Locke. Think of the kind of guilt and mental anguish it must take to keep someone literally trying to keep a dead person alive. I mean, even after he started to have feelings for Celes, once the world got smashed, he was STILL trying to revive Rachel.
Cyan's family was killed by an outside force, where as Locke feels (due to Rachel falling and all things going in place) that her death was entirely his fault thus being a mental case about it but still trying to be noble.
I never really felt much for Setzer though.
And I don't think Aeris had a sad life due to the fact she was a total optimist. Even if you told her that her story was sad she'd brush it off as a way of growing or something. I think she led a happy life til the end.
I think Rydia deserves a drink too. A, what like, 10 year old kid having her mother die infront of her then minutes later her entire village burnt to the ground by the same people who killed her mother. Yeah, -that- sucks.
Oh and Gau too. I mean, even when he did go meet his father, his father STILL hated the thought of the "demon child" AKA Gau. Of course Gau was happy because his father said, who ever raised him raised a fine young man or something, but STILL. It's like "DAD I'M HERE!" "What?! I think over all, FFVI has the most people with a crappy life, but that's how it was suppose to be since one of FFVI's main theme's is overcoming very emotional obsticles of the past.

If I was Celes and I was already so down on Life that I tried to kill myself, the fact that the person who gave hope to me didn't really do much to find me and would rather revive his dead Girlfriend would be like an "LOL YOU SUCK" sign to me.

I think that Aerith Gainsborough and Terra Branford had very unfortunate circumstances in their lives. I would not say that they had it worst out of the entire series, though, because you never really know who is meant to be portrayed as having it as the worst of the worst.
Basch didn't have it good either.
There is some(or many?) characters in FF who suffered more than him, but I think Zack Fair deserves to be mentioned here.
Crisis Core and Before Crisis' spoilers:
(SPOILER)
- Zack was betrayed by his friend and mentor, Angeal, and had to kill him later.
- Two of his SOLDIER friends became puppets of Fuhito, and Zack was forced to kill them.
- His friend Sephiroth, betrayed him and kicked his ass.
- He was in a test tube for 5 years.
- Was betrayed by the company he dedicated his life for, chased by them like an animal, and was forced to fight against his friend, Cissnei(one of the Turks).
- After sending letters to him for 5 years(and without receiving an answer) Aerith gave up of him(she said in her last letter, that she wouldn't send letters to him anymore).
- Was killed by Shinra on the outskirts of Midgar, when he was very close of meeting Aerith again.

Overall, I'd say Cloud. The layers of experience, torture, and deceit piled up on him pretty fiercely. He lost his mind and identity, only to be reminded of the truth in the harshest way possible. He basically rebuilt his existence, even as he came to terms with overwhelming loss and the similar burden of trying to save the planet from a disaster he unwittingly had a hand in. Incidentally, the way Cloud confronted and overcame his weakness is what makes him my favourite 'hero' of the series.
Hmmm...I'm not sure I remember everyone's stories vividly enough to really have a good opinion. But off the top of my head, I think Cyan, Tidus, and Zack had the saddest stories...though I was most emotionally affected by the stories of Celes, Aeris, and...Tidus again.
As an aside, I think the Square has completely put an end to the Cloud/Aeris and Cloud/Tifa shipping debate. I used to think it was pretty even (when I had just played VII), but after watching Tetsuya Nomura call Tifa Cloud's "light" in Kingdom Hearts II (which I don't really agree with, though I prefer Cloud/Tifa), and after seeing all the emphasis that Zack/Aeris gets in Crisis Core...eh. But then, that's just my opinion. Which is off-topic here.
