You really hate them but...

Nearly everyone has their pet hate character. Mine is Wakka (out of the main ones anyway). But sometimes they do something that makes you think ... c'mon they're not so bad.

So own up, when did your pet hate character do/say something so good that you couldn't hate them, if only for a little time?

I guess for me its when Wakka makes his speech about blitz making people forget Sin. "This is the only time. The players fight with all their strength; the fans cheer for their favourite team. They forget pain, suffering... Only the game matters!"

This is so true about games, and its one of Wakka's best moments. You gotta love the big jerk when he says it, don'tcha?

I agree that Wakka had an awesome moment there. But I'm afraid my most hated character, Seymour, had no such redeeming point.

In X? Wow, I never got around to finishing the game. But I've played most of it. And pretty much hated Yuna both times through. And Tidus. They got over themselves a bit I guess. I didn't hate them quite as much the second time. But I don't know why

Wakka should be like a token hate for liberals and athiests xD He's such a conservative religious type. But he doesn't really preach it, he just makes it (very) apparent what he believes

But I loved him because as the story progressed, he opened his eyes and opened his mind

In general a lot of people should take an example there

Yes, thank you for that. I now have an excuse to ban all logical discussion and simply bitch at you for making an invalid stereotypical comparison of myself and those who share my beliefs to Wakka. Just because a stereotype is distasteful doesn't mean it's not based in some truth. There are a loooooooooot of people here down South that fit his personality well :p

Kimarhi was redeemed to me when I found out how to take him through the sphere grid.

I liked everyone else, but after I played x-2, wakka started grating on me because the voice actor kinda went nuts with his accent and it sounded so terrible, then it rubbed off backwards onto ffx, and I stopped playing him as much xD

Anyway, I didn't hate Wakka either, and he did have a couple awesome scenes.

But I still maintain that Seymour had no positive aspects at all.

Auron. I never liked him. He was redeemed when he let out his rage on yunalesca and died.

Gatta was my least favorite, but he didn't bother me much. I loved almost every character in FFX. I've even grown to like Seymour!

Nooj I still don't like, but this isn't the FFX-2 forum.

When she and Tidus was standing at that spot laughing like retards, I almost shut the game off.. Damn shes a little .

I didn't like yuna that much playing the game. But when she learned the whole grid and had the best weapon and armor (break HP,MP,damage limits) she ended up being the best character the game had just cause she had the only power to summon. Everbody elses power you could learn from the grid. SO ha all you yuna hater fans. Ok I won't say or repeat any of the yuna praise in the FF10-2 threads.

Well summons gets a bit crap after a few master tonberry fights at the arena :P

I personally didn't have a least favorite in the game...if I HAD to choose it would be Jecht...I found him quite forced and overbearing. but I suppose that was his character. Tidus himself annoyed the hell out of me, but he had his moments where actual sense came out his mouth.

Hm. I didn't really like Kimahri. I found him useless. He redeemed himself in Mt. Gagazet, though. With the boss fight and all. I thought that was neato.

And I disliked Rin. Sure, he has Travel Agencies all over the place, but um. Too overpriced for my tastes. I'd rather fight and win my items that way, or go find O'aka. What a discount he had~!

I kind of hated Seymour too, but his mom was instant win, so...mhm. That kind of made everything better.

Hmm for me its like Yuna i effing hate your guts more than life... but if i ever saw your cosplay forsale at a store i'd buy it O-O (ffx costume mind you) and there was a couple moments i liked her.

Then there's Lulu never liked her, never will. lol

Well Seymour is a difficult one, because he starts out seeming to be on your side, then goes crazy ape evil. But if I had to pick his best moment, its when he tries to persuade Wakka not to be a religious bigot about the Al Bhed and machina.

Kinda cool, and even Tidus thinks he's making sense.

Yeah, I never thought Seymour was good, since I 1st saw him. I was like, this guy looks evil, but I'm sure that aeon will be mine eventually, and rule, and I was right.

My least favorite character was Kimahri. That silent bad boy type is reserved for main characters only! He never really redeemed himself, until he unlocked Ultima for me.

I didn't like Wakka cos of his stupid accent and his anti-Al Bhed and Machina stance. But there was one moment where he sorta comforts Rikku when Home was under attack by Guado that redeemed him :D It was sweet.

My biggest issue with Seymour is they made him look so, evil. I mean, if they had made him look kinda normal they could've fooled me early on with the way he acted, but they just kinda gave it away with his look.

I loved Wakka, he kinda was a great example of the "don't diss it till you try it." saying xD

I guess Kimarhi was my least favorite character, because he didn't really have a good story. I liked it when he punched Biran in the face at the bar though :bigsmile:

I didn't outright hate her, but Yuna annoyed me the most out of the main crew for a long time. I thought she was gorgeous looks wise, it's nice to see a normal figured FF girl for a change, but her voice and general personality really grated on me.

But my opinion of her really changed on viewing the (SPOILER) sphere that she recorded for everyone to be shown after she died. Yuna's VA was fantastic during that part, the best part of her performance, and you got to see just want a sweet and deep character she really had.

Auron blah puke blech. Although after seeing his flashbacks at least we get to know why he's being a huge ass.

and then there's Yuna, but that's mostly because it takes a week for her to get out a sentence. Got better in X-2 she did.

Tidus by a mile. Every time he opens his mouth I just want to tell him to shut the hell up. I'm pretty sure if I had been on that pilgrimage I would have fed him to the giant Ochu in Kilika.

I think it's the Voice Actor's fault. The Japanese voice actor at least sounded pleasant.

Wakka was cool at first but his character seemed to go downhill over the course of the game. I guess it seemed like he took aspects of the story more seriously then they really were, to the point where he was just plain annoying.

And then there's Dona and Bartetello, slut and dumb brute.

And of course seymour... so annoying.

I hate everybody...seriously.

My least favorite (Rikku) had the redeeming quality of knocking the holy hell outta my second least favorite character (Tidus) at the beginning of the game. Everyone else I liked. (I don't dislike Tidus, but next to Rikku, he's just the character I found it hardest to get emotionally attached to.)

Tidus had plenty of moments where he did or said something cool, but most of the time I found him whiny and annoying. He also showcases the very worst of James Arnold Taylor's voice acting, even more apparent if you happened to see TMNT and heard Leonardo's voice, his scream even more so.

I also hate the constant bickering surrounding the pronunciation of his name.

What I liked about Tidus: He was a Time Mage who could kick ass, and you could rename him to something more befitting his personality, like F***hole.

Rikku, she was weeeeaaaaak and annoyed me! Her attacks took so long to do.... why can't she hit them fast!? And she's too peppy.... waaaay too peppy knowing your cousin is gonna die and if she fails boom that mega fish thing in the sky (sin) is gonna be angrrryyy!

Only reason I give him an inch or two of respect is due to he's quite ace at blitzball and does grow a backbone by the end of the story. Otherwise being incredibly oblivious and full of childish doubt about almost everything, he does somewhat change towards the end and that's a bit more respect for him.
On the other hand though, he is, and always will be, a whiny so-and-so. : D

Rikku, she got on my nerves at times with her accent & demeanor.

Seymour and Dona really got on my nerves, but it's probably because I never, ever have love for the antagonists. Seymour just annoyed me because he always said something stupid like "Death awaits you!111one" ten times every fight. >_>
As for the protagonists, I like 'em all except for Kimahri, who just...is too bland.

Well... i don't hate any of the characters buuuuut....

I really hate the scene where Yuna tells Tidus to laugh and Tidus be like "LOLz" and then they both be all like "LOLZ" and then they be like "ROFL WAFFLE".

That is the only time I hate the two of them.

It's like Squall and Rinoa on the Ragnarok. I hate them both but that scene was beautiful and one of my favorites.

Anyway, for an FFX example, I didn't like Yuna in this game. Her best moment was when she stood up to Yunalesca and made her little speech.

I dont like Tidus but I like the scene where he goes "But I want everything" I know its a line most people hate but i like it because its abit odd.

Just make a new thread next time Rebellious Eagle, this one is quite old. :D I was surprised to see I had already posted in this.

Its not just you, and I wish more people that had contributed to this thread had your degree of perception (I was the person who started it). The idea was to put aside your basic hatred of a character to acknowledge their good moments. It may be harder to do this, but I can't help feeling its good for the soul!

As much of a whiny little annoying bitch that Tidus is, I have to go with Seymour, there's just something about him everytime he shows up and everytime he opens his mouth that just makes you think to yourself (OH FFS, YOU F*** OFF, IM REALLY NOT IN THE MOOD FOR YOUR CRAP).

Tidus and Auron are both annyoying, they are the epitome of the two worst RPG archetypes. Tidus is overly cheerful and selfish and Auron is overly dickish and superior.

They had cool backstories and were useful in combat.

In fact, all FFX characters are archetypes, but with redeeming qualities that make them better characters.

Yuna is the Codependent chick, who isn't codependent and strong-willed.
Rikku is hyperactive and bubbly, but smart and kinda funny sometimes.
Wakka is the buddish nice but holier-than-thou guy who actually went through some development.
Kimahri is the silent but observant guy who was totally useless in combat.
And Lulu was the tough smart chick who was unique in that she totally had a sense of humor.

Yuna has the most annoying voice of anyone ever, real or otherwise.
