I prefer gif smilies and if they are enabled then that is what I use. My favourite text smiles would be the same as my gifs. :)

I can't think of many others that I use.

I like them both, so it's a real pain for me xD
I like :D more than :D or any other gif that replaces it anywhere ever, so I end up turning them off on messengers and places where I can't have :D and :D at the same time.

I'm more for gif types these days. I used to use the ^_^ and v_v and >.< etc. all the time, and then one day I just didn't anymore. I still use xD and D: and such, and sometimes the others, but not like I used to. It was all :jess:. It converted me forever.

I prefer gifs when possible, but I use ^^ ;_;' >: / and a few others simply because I can't find a gif equivalent.

And of course, ;o or >;o. It's a good smiley. It's a very "whatever, man." smiley, but it can be used in a lot of different ways, from "go away", to sleepiness, to indifference. ;o

For the most part, I prefer text smilies, but there are some things you just can't do with text.

Depends on the images used for smilies. EoFF has comparably good ones, so here I generally prefer images. Images are usually also preferable for more complex emotions (like :shifty: or :simon:).

I prefer text smilies over gifs. I turn image smiles off because I especially hate it when I am using parentheses and suddenly I have a bunch of faces in my posts.
Also, when it comes to text smilies, anything vertical is go. I still haven't found a sufficient substitute for ":p" as in "silly" and ":-(" as in "I'm sad, but not crying." Suggestions?
