Favourite comics without super heroes
What are yours? Mine are as follows:
Sandman by Neil Gaiman - Probably the only comic book series I like more than Watchmen. It's seriously fantastic. It follows the character Dream, one of the "Endless" who are basically gods. Dream is the Endless of dreams and stories, and as such, a lot of the comics are stories about other characters in other situations, with Dream himself making only a small appearance. It's one of the most amazing things ever written and everyone needs to read it.
Strange Embrace by David Hine - This was surprisingly great. It's kind of a story within a story within a story. It starts off being about a boy who works at his parents' store, and moves on to follow the life story of a telepath he meets, and then becomes the story of one old man whose mind the telepath once read. It's pretty creepy and the climax of the story will send chills down your spine. It's only an eight issue mini series, and once you start reading it, it's difficult to stop before you hit the end. This is another one that comes highly recommended.
Y - the Last Man by Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra - This is about the last man on earth, after every other male (human or animal) has died, leaving only women, him and his male monkey. Of course, being the only man left, he's incredibly important and humanity's only chance to repopulate the earth. Definitely worth checking out.
