I went ahead and edited the thread title. Even if you mark that the thread has spoilers, you shouldn't put the spoiler content in the title.
Eh, I think he pretty much does. Of course it's never concluded and it is Final Fantasy so it's perfectly reasonable to maybe think that they found a magic life-span-increasing hat for him after the events of the game or summat.
I never really thought about it when I first played the game and completed it, and only saw the theory that he dies on forums and stuff afterwards. Obviously it all makes sense and ties in with the themes of the Black Mages' mortality in the game, but it's still kind of depressing so I almost don't want to believe that version of events XD - but yeah from what I've seen it is widely accepted now by people that he does die at the end of the game.
If memory serves me correct, doesn't the game mention only Vivi's kids actually showed up for the events of the ending? Course it seems kinda sad to kill such an awesome character off screen...
Not enough people die in FFIX. I reckon Kuja survived too.
The Black Mages were established to have an extremely short lifespan, so I think that while Vivi had a longer lifespan than others of that species, he died after the events of the game.
Someone mentioned the little Vivis running around at the end. How did these little guys come about?
I get the feeling most people didn't want to dwell too much on how black mages reproduce (or even if they have genders) XD

^Lol, I have no idea. And they dont give us any hint in the game, so at the end of the day its pure speculation. But by the end of the game, Vivi's magic was very powerful.

Well, it was stated that the prototype was supposed to last longer than the regular grunts.
That's the other thing - nobody knows where the hell his kids come from or how they came about. It might be another thing having to do with "the prototype". One of my theories would be that Vivi is actually a "black mage" from The Crystal's memory (just like the Elemental Fiends) and he's called the prototype because the black mage robots were based off of him. He can have kids/whatever. That would also explain why he likes windmills, they remind him of airships of past games. I don't know.

Vivi was constructed artificially, but he's still a living being. The potential for reproduction could well exist, either buried in his physiology or as an inherent part of his design.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure he's dead. He didn't die, like, as soon as the final battle was over, but he died some time after popping out a few mini-hims.
Perhaps they are not literally his 'children' that he spawned with another black mage (as they all seem to be male, as far as I can remember). Like what was mentioned earlier, I think he found a way to make more black mages, perhaps with longer lifespans or something like that...
But yeah, he is definitely gone at the end of the game...that's what the long emotional letter to Zidane is about.
I believe the ending implies that, before Vivi 'stopped moving' he joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. That's why there is so many of them.Quote:
