I hope that the protagonists use the official, released names as aliases for a majority of the game and that their true names have yet to be revealed.
And I think that their names will revert around the plot of the story.
It might be nice to play as a character named Snow that I don't want to kill for once... damn you Suikoden IV!
Seeing how Nomura works, I'm pretty sure Lightening and Snow are probably their real names. ;)

Lightning is a name you'll almost never find in English spelling. Snow is also rare: they could have used Ice, but that's severely cliche. I might say the next ally's name would be Wind: Gale would be cool but it's also overused. Another possibility would be Ocean: Cloud has only been used a few times to my memory but it's still too recent; Rain is too obvious and River has also been repeated; the only Ocean I know of is on the Ocean's 11-13 series.
Of course, I was concocting a fanfic of VII with a villain named Ocean so I may be a little biased.

Isn't it obvious? Snow and Lightning are codenames for the two l'Cie. Sera being a citizen of Pulse and not being a I'Cie (well at the start anyway) Doesn't have a codename.
All the FF13 talk is totaly brain warpping with all the talk of codenames and such but all the more to a great mystery.
