Help Linus get a Sweet Job!

Ok folks, here's the deal. That announcement up there ^ is about this. I'm Linus, some of you may not know me but I posted here a crapton between 2001-2004 and am buddies with a lot of the older members here. (Hi CK's!)

I'm in a competition to become the new spokesperson for a thing called Young and Free South Carolina. It's run by a credit union, which is similar to a bank.

Basically, if I win they pay me, I get a free Macbook and digital camcorder, and I get to go to events and stuff around my state for a year to either speak, hand stuff out, or interview people. It's a job that I reeeeally want.

The judges from the competition are going to narrow the field down from over 20 people to just 3 sometime after March 13th. They are going to make their decision based on the quality of my application, my other submissions, and the quality and quantity of the comments on my application!

So here's what YOU can do to help me win an awesome job.

Finish the whole thing off by leaving a supportive comment at the end! It doesn't have to be long, just supportive! The more of you who help me out, the better it'll look to the judges.

I'm not looking for funny business. This is a serious competition, so 50 comments with the same i.p. would look bad.

Anyway, this french fry signature was made by Shlup, and Gau. I think. Some others were probably there too, but they made it at a meetup like over 5 years ago. The fries are probably stale now.

This competition is bugging me out. Last week I made 2 videos and bugged like everyone I know to go post stuff. And there's still 2 weeks to go uuuuunnngnghhh. If I do make it to the final three though I'll be really relieved. Then it's just down to public voting and I can spam the hell out of everywhere for votes. =D

You sound just like Zach Braff! I will leave a lovely comment. Although I don't know what good a comment from a British IP address will do you. Maybe I could use a pseudonym like Hamburger McBaseball to throw them off! (I won't really it's cool)

Hrmm... I know they moderate it to prevent people being like "OMG U SUCK" or people posting pr0ns or whatever. But I dunno about the spam dealy. =\

Also, don't worry about where your i.p. is, they already said once voting opens up that anyone in the world can vote if they have a valid e-mail address.

UPDATE: The deadline for applications is tomorrow. After that, they are gonna start deciding on their top 3! I'm third in comments right now with 116, Darrell has 161, and Kelly has 147. Problem is, I've kinda run out of people I know IRL to show this to. Could you all be darlings and link your friends on AIM or MSN to Young Free SC - Blog to leave a supportive comment? I don't want to be left in the dust! Love you folks.

Who is currently 4th/5th and how many comments do they have?

So like... 160, 150, 120, 90, 85 at the moment.

The final three is being selected by the credit union's Human relations, public relations, and marketing teams. We've been told that we can be judged on our application alone, so the 1 minute video and the blog entry. I am the only entrant to submit three additional videos, and I think they're all pretty solid videos. I think my degree in marketing, young look, and intelligence will be good for the shortlisting. They then told us

"Do comments count?"
"Yes. Both the quantity and the quality give us a glimpse into your character and your network. etc. blah blah."

That's the only reason I'm really trying to get a bunch here at the end. I just don't want Darrell to have 100 more comments than everyone and get like an automatic bid to the final three. I want people with LESS comments than me because the next phase is open internet voting!

Update! The job contest has passed its deadline for new applicants. I am one of 27 candidates, but I think only 6-8 of them are even worth considering, me included.

Also, they have told us that the winner is going to receive a BRAND NEW CAR to drive for a year with free gas and insurance, so now I want to win even more. Open voting starts on March 23rd, but for now you can still leave supportive comments at Young Free SC - Blog =D

Good luck in the competition! It also looks like one of your main competitors is getting a lot of comments because he is a youth minister, i.e. I like him because he's a Christian, not just because of his qualifications.

Yep, yep. At one point we both had 100 comments, and he turned on the juice. He has like 170 one-line comments, which is more than my total comments. =\
