Do you consider Y a vowel or a consonant? Don't even think about saying it's one or the other, depending on the context. YOU MUST PICK ONE :mad2:
Yes.
It's one or the other, depending on how it's pronounced in that particular word.
:>D!
It's a vowel, as simple as that.
And in the dutch language it's not used as frequently as in english, so I have no problem thinking of it as a vowel.
Oh, I don't know. A constonant. No wait, vowel! This is just ridiculous pressure I don't need in my day.
Y...
Y is whatever it feels like.
Y plays by it's own rules.
Y refuses to conform like the other 25 letters in the English alphabet.
Y is such a rebel.
Y...
Sometimes Y, Yars, sometimes Y...
It's a terrible letter and should be removed.
Vowel. Period.
Who cares? Once we convert to the metric alphabet it'll get thrown in with all the other trash letters.
Lets replace y with λ!
Vowel.
Vowel :p .... which rhymes with BOWEL(s)!!!!! HAHA!!!!
[/immature]
I like y. I think I like it as a vowel better.
It's both at once. Duh.
TELL ME YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!
It's a vowel in Norway, so I don't get to pick. :/
I could betray my country and say consonant though, yeah... maybe I will! :mad2:
Norway<-- vowel
betray<- vowel
my<- vowel
country<- vowel
say<- vowel
yeah<- consonant
maybe<- vowel
It's a vowel. An awesome vowel that tricks people into thinking it's a consonant.
How else can words like syzygy exist?
Try replacing it with the letter i and see if you still think it's a consonant :)
e.g.: way -> wai as in, "no wai!"
It is the vertical co-ordinate and chromosone which makes males
The letter Y and its subordinate y both contradict my religion, so I refuse to believe that either of them exist.
Y is just a half-assed method of making the 'i' sound a lot of other languages use.
It's always a vowel to me! <3
Y is a decent enough letter and that's all that matters.
This, lamda has nothing to do with y at all. In fact, you know what? Screw upsilon! Let's bring back the waw!
λ is awesome and you know it. I wanna change y to λ for the shape. :p
Also you do not want the waw letter family in your alphabet. In hebrew it is the etter Vav. ו Vav has three sounds. a hard V, a hard oo, and a soft oh, with nothing more then the location of a dot to distinguish between them. And Hebrew doesn't show the dots while being written. =/ Hebrew likes to have multiple sounds distinguished by those dots, then not show them in writing. :p
In the English language, consonant.
