So, how smart are you? My IQ is apparently 150, but I'm not so sure about that. Sometimes I can be quite thick. :|

A high IQ is not really a good indicator of intelligence at all. I once met a rock (an actual rock) that had a very high IQ but it was a rock and rocks are stupid

I don't know what my IQ is. I took some online one for fun the other day and got a 143 though. I'm sure those things are completely inaccurate though.

I don't like the online tests because they calculate your score based on time taken. The last one I did gave me a 129 and I had to answer about half of the pattern questions without being able to see them. The stupid pictures didn't load :mad2:

blah blah blah IQ = intelligence quotient, only means how much you're capable of learning, blach blah, not what you actually know, yada yada mostly the same kinds of tests, blargh I got 154 on the one momiji did in his lj, blah blah they haven't been taken seriously since like the 60s, even this book I read about how to teach gifted students that was published in the 80s said so blah. cough.

IQ measures how well you do on an IQ test. That's pretty much it. It certainly isn't an indicator of how well you'll do in life.

That's fine. Intelligence isn't the same as knowledge. Knowing who Einstein was and what he did has little to do with how good you are at solving problems and seeing patterns, etc.

I took a somewhat proper test once, and I landed at 117, though I think it relied a bit too much on knowledge.

They're supposed to give a representation of how well you solve real life logical problems and stuff, but you're right in the sense that if you do lots of IQ tests, and do many exercises that are similar to the ones you get a IQ tests, you'll do better at them, but then I don't think it really reflects your real life performance :p.

I guess it can be compared to a test of your physique. On a normal person, you don't have to do a zillion tests for every single muscle in your body to get a pretty good estimate of how fit you are, but if you specifically train the muscle groups that you know will matter most next time you get yourself tested, it's no longer going to reflect your actual fitness level.

When I was at school, I was lucky enough to be able to apply for Cambridge University, as I was a straight A student. Also, at the same time as that, my school were in the middle of some IQ research which meant that I was immediately flagged up by my teachers. I took a genuine IQ test and scored 152. A lot of it was highly unrelated to intelligence, and more related to the way in which your brain works things out. As it happens, I have incredibly limited common sense. ;)

Naturally, I turned down my Cambridge offer for the one at Royal College.
