Ooooh yeah! I'm a sucker for Tim Burton's movies! Can't wait to see this...Depp really can act anything...
It looks cool and all, and I like Tim Burton, but having everything look grotesque for grotesque sake is kind of growing old to me. It stopped looking amazing between the time I stopped wearing Hot Topic clothing and the time when The Corpse Bride came out.
I'd be more imrpessed if he did something beautiful like Big Fish again.

I find his movies to be a little piece of refreshment in today's Hollywood cinema. I liked everything he produced so far,but I can understand why someone wouldn't be able to grasp his style.

I'm not taken by the trailer but I think that's just because I've never understood why anyone likes Alice in Wonderland. I know it's not Tim Burton because I think 9 looks absolutely amazing. xD

I don't know, maybe I'm being close-minded, but I feel like he's just trying to make Nightmare before Christmas again, and it's like "No. You'll never make another one. Be happy with the success you had with it. The best reception you've had since you made that movie was probably Big Fish. ROLL WITH IT. DON'T FIGHT IT."
Granted, Sweeny Todd was pretty successful, but I hate that movie for the exact reasons I don't think I'll like this one, so...
I'm biased though, I guess. I just really like bright colorful "Amelie" looking films and sets, like Jeux D'Enfant and Pushing Daisies, and Big Fish was rather similar to that.
EDIT: Alan Rickman as the Caterpillar? Okay, I'm going to see it, just for that. I'm hot for Alan Rickman. :aimkiss:
I can see where criticism comes from but on the other hand, if he's been making that kind of movie for 20 years (sdgsagfhahahaahagahahahahahaha you weren't even BORN when Beetlejuice came out you little cub) and is still massively successful with them, a lot of people clearly aren't bored of it :p
Lol, hello average Hollywood producer who thinks it's more important to stuff as many special effects as possible, introduce a teenage star to assure movie's success,shower us with cheap and overused one liners, rather than concentrating on the quality of the storytelling/depth!
Sweeney Todd was just terrible. I was really excited to see it when it was released, but I was disappointed by it. I hate it, actually.
I really like Disney's Alice in Wonderland film from the '50s, but this...I-I don't even know. Will The Wizard of Oz be next? :ffvitrouble:

Yeah, I'm definitely getting burned out on the This Is A Tim Burton Movie It's So Quirky C'mon Guys Tim Burton thing that he's done so much. I watched Corpse Bride not long ago and, well, that's all it really was. Dude needs to diversify his stuff a bit more.

Also diI like all of Burton's filsm that I've seen, except for Corpse bride, never could sit through all of that. I am even more eager to see this after hearing Chris Gore's review of Coraline on Blu-Ray he said it was so good that it made him cry. Was Edward Scissor Hands directed by him too, I haven't seen that since I was like 6.
Tim Burton wasn't involved in Coraline at all, though. The promotional pieces saying it was from the guy behind Nightmare all referred to Henry Selick, who apparently did the real majority of the visual work on the film (Burton just made the story up). Coraline was based off of a Neil Gaiman story, directed by Selick. But yes, it is a pretty fantastic movie. I highly recommend it.
He did write and direct Edward Scissorhands, which was genuinely a good movie. It was definitely before he decided to make every movie star Johnny Depp with music by Danny Elfman and have them all be knockoffs of each other, so it actually had some heart to it.
I certainly wouldn't mind him taking a break from trying to rebottle Nightmare's lightning to try making another Big Fish instead.Quote:

While I think Berton is more original then some give him credit for, there are plenty of people who are on the opposite end of the spectrum too.
He's definately a good director with a lot of good movies, though he does need to branch out more often.
That being said, I'm happy to go see this one. Seems interesting enough, though I don't know if I'd want to see it in theaters or not.
Tim Burton is a very style-oriented director. As my Film History instructor said, "He's far more interested in style than narrative concerns. " I love his sort of Gothic style a lot, but I'm not sure if it's suited for a movie that I assume is intended for children. This might be entirely too scary for youngsters. It's scary even for me! But then again, I always thought the Cheshire cat was creepy as hell even in the animated version. *goes off to have nightmares*
I think AIW and Burton are a perfect fit. He's obviously a fan and "gets it" I'd be really shocked if it was anything other than excellent.
I don't think it's really that his films are unoriginal, it's just that they're all pretty much original in the exact same way. Against just about any other director's movies, his stand out, but it's just gotten to the point for me where it's like, "Really, Tim? This again?"Quote:

The movie isn't Alice in Wonderland as we know it. The story is suppose to be that alice goes back to wonderland but she doesn't remember it and somethign has happened to wonderland.

I think it looks brilliant. But then, I would say that being quite a big Burton fan. Although, I hope for his next film he goes back to a style more along the lines of Sleepy Hollow. That would have to be my favourite Burton film.

I seem to see from the trailer that Tim Burton is going to make the events alot deeper rather than random occurences, which I like.
That and Helena + Depp are my favorite things to watch.
I like Tim Burton's style, to be honest. When you go to see it, it's sort of what you expect. Kind of like Spielburg. You always expect something similar from Spielburg in a sense that you get it from Burton. The only thing is, his is so stylistic rather, where-as Spielburg is more set on the impact of character and story. Burton achieves this through setting. And his favorite setting is something warped from fairy tales.
I'm looking forward to seeing it.
And when I saw sweeney todd on stage, it was terrible. But, it was just terrible acting and actors and the only good part was the poor beggar woman.
I don't get why people are moaning over Tim Burton and his style. If he didn't do it people would complain as well. Just look at Planet Of The Apes.
Planet of the Apes was simply a bad movie. Big Fish wasn't typical Johnny Depp eye liner Burton, and it was great.
No, Big Fish didn't have Depp in it, but I still thought it was very much Burton.
Definitely. I think it had a lot of Burton elements, like the part with the witch, and with the ghost town, but he was just a lot more.... subtle, perhaps is the word, about it. And I think the subtly really made the movie beautiful.Quote:
