There are Canadians who seriously can't remember who Paul Martin was (for those who aren't from Canada, he was Prime Minister not even four years ago, and Finance Minister for almost a decade before that). The thing I hate about Sarah Palin is not the actual political ramifications she has on our society: its' the fact that goddam European/Canadian kids are going to get on their high horse. Technically you're right, Sweden is a social democracy, but most people are sloppy and don't really bother distinguishing between the terms. The only place I'm aware of that actually comes close to being real socialism in the world right now is Cuba, which has a :bou::bou::bou::bou:ty trade embargo preventing it from reaching its economic potential, but it's a top-controlled dictatorship, which is pretty far removed from worker control of the economy. A good example of worker-controlled socialism existed during the Spanish Civil War, but due to the number of outside influences conspiring to end the Catalan territories' autonomy it was pretty short-lived.Quote:
