let me explain it this way: there were times when a download suddenly stopped because there allegedly hadn't been a connection, though i had been surfing at that time..
so i'm glad if i actually AM able to download something, i don't care about the speed anymore, or i'm ratherly not destined to..
I've seen my connection top 1mbps on rare occasions. However, I'm convinced as of late that my ISP is throttling my download speeds as I'm lucky to get over 200kbps. Supposedly they made some changes to their internet packages a while ago without really telling anyone. Luckily I'll be moving in less than a month and can tell them to shove their stupid internet packages while going with a faster company.
Probably the upper end of "nice." I don't download a ton of big things, and when I do download torrents it's reasonably fast.
I am the tubes.
I have a lovely connection. :3
awesome cable connection, baby! :D
716 kB/s or 2 Mbit/s
I love Usenet.
I used to have 6 Mbit/s. Ah, how the mighty have fallen. :'(
Mine depends on its mood and the ambience. Sometime the green bar fill up real fast and cum! But the other time it take forever to fill the green bar up! :(
god damn dialup
verizon is putting in dsl but were four miles from the repeater box so they wont add another til next fall.... bastards
might get satellite if its cheap enough
Holy :bou::bou::bou::bou:, you're still on dial-up?
Where do you live?
bout 7 miles out from town
Too fast sometimes :/
Although my wifi card is responsible for me being unable to maintain steady speeds.
DARN YOU INTEL WIFI 5100AGN
Me is INTERNET!!!!!!!!:clone:
54mpbs. Though I'm always on wireless on my laptop, so it's iffy. If I download a movie it takes about 20 minutes or so; an album is like instant more or less.
I share with 13 others, so it can be very random how fast it is, but usually very slow.
Where's my joke option involving Flying Mullet?

Booyah.
It's legit, bitches. :p
As long as a torrent is decently seeded, an album takes me 2-3 minutes and a movie takes 5-10.
Today I grabbed a ~800MB vinyl rip of Black Sabbath's Heaven and Hell in about twenty minutes. Good :bou::bou::bou::bou:.
We have a decently fast package, though it's no fiber. If BJ saw AK's post he would try and move in with him.
The fastest I remember seeing a download speed was 2.1mb. Could of been higher at one time but generally, I download at about 750kb.

Apparently not good. Though I've never had any complaints. It blitzes through thehardcore fetish pornperfectly innocent and legal stuff I download, so I'm not too bothered. Though I will be buying a whole new PC in the next 3 years or so.

Fluctuates a bit depending on the time of day
I'm glad people are using SpeedTest now, I feel like I started a trend.

I think I win at having the worst internet ever (at home)
At university it is awesomely fast
My god, .26 mb?
Well, mine is...
http://www.speedtest.net/result/636384287.png
I usually have about 600kbps while downloading something.
Since everyone's doing it...

hey dude
asynchronous DSL
your ISP is doing it wrong.
Yeah, this. I have a basic cable connection and it goes fairly fast.Quote:

It's pretty damned fast, yes. It was faster at one point but I downgraded the package for moneys.
http://www.speedtest.net/result/636808509.png (found server closer to me, and yay for having the best commercial ISP download so far :D)
EDIT: What I have learned today: University ISP's make Commercial ISP's their bitches.
my crappy monopoly-having ISP caps speeds unless you pay way too much money. The result is crap like this:
http://www.speedtest.net/result/636816673.png
I guess I should be happy I have internet at all in this frozen wasteland.
That would be why I said best commercial download so far, silly.
Shut up. >:|
And non-commercially I beat you in spades. :p
From home:

It's actually pretty slow, because I'm quite far from the NRA :(
I'll try to get it from work soon too.
The most I ever got out of my uni was about 8 Mbps, I think. I'll check it from the computer lab sometime xD
Now compare that to my unis:

>>> I just have a crappy cellphone that sometimes connect to the internet, it sucks..http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y15...Walk-Front.gif
Who doesn't this poll have any hard numbers? I'm downloading at 380 kB/s. Uploading at 100 kB/s.
http://www.speedtest.net/result/637523445.png
Well, it's not terrible. I'm not sure what my university's numbers are.
Decent upload yo
Compared to most of the other people in this thread? It's rather phenomenal.
Of course, there is a reason why my university was #1 for illegal file sharing a few years back. Then people started getting upset.
>_>
<_<
http://www.speedtest.net/result/637711656.png
It got even bigger.
Hello would you like to see my penis
Everyone but AK bow before my powers of upload
I swear the internet here doesn't seem this fast
http://www.speedtest.net/result/637717297.png
I HOPE IT IS FAST ENOUGH FOR YOU TO UPLOAD DIRTY MOVIES OF YOURSELF UP THE INTERNET LITTLE MANUS.
I frakin' hate you.
http://www.speedtest.net/result/637721457.png
I beat you now at least.

Could have been better.
Poll options are still inconsistent!
and IDNAN, that really looks like someone else in your household was using your internet connection while you ran the test. That would skew the results a lot.
The one where the download speed is lower than the upload speed.
Well the router is plugged into the PC, and I have an ethernet cable from the router to my laptop, so that could be it?
Does anyone else use your home network, though? He was just saying that if someone else was online at the same time on the same local network, it would skew the results negatively than if you were the only one using it. Though that would be basically irrelevant if other people are always on the same network, since that would then be accurate of the connection speed you'd usually have.
A CD-quality FLAC (44kHz, 16-bit) wouldn't. But the advantage of vinyl is that it offers far more sound quality than CDs do, at least if it's new, and so the vinyl rips I download are generally made at better than CD quality. This particular rip was 96 kHz and 24-bit.
Sample from work, forgot to do it from the engineering school I teach at, though.

smurf you Australia. I have a goddamn satellite connection and this is all you can give me?
Long dead and forgotten. It's time to move on buddy. It's time to move on.
Oh, and here's my speeds from work. Not that fastest, but we're talking of bringing in a direct pipe soon. :D

And if I speed test from Houston, TX to a server in Ulan-Ude, Russia, here's my results:

And once last test from Nuremberg, Germany:

http://www.speedtest.net/rank/1545360614.png
mine is officially AVG...well, apparently above average. just.
http://www.speedtest.net/result/639435597.png :( not as fast as i'd hoped.
Hardly capable of telling the difference on a crappy sound setup maybe. And disk space is extremely cheap these days. A couple years ago I wouldn't have bothered with above-CD-quality rips but you can grab a 1TB hard drive for like $100 now.
I wouldn't pay 30-50% for a negligible difference in quality even if that was only a $1 difference, it's very poor economic skill. Thus, that large an increase of filesize without an significant gain is quality is just dumb.
Analog recording vs. digital recording - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
And the vinyl itself isn't better, how can a large rip of one be justified then?Quote:
The assertion is that the 'analog sound' is more a product of analog format inaccuracies than anything else. One early supporter of digital audio was the classical conductor Herbert von Karajan, who said that digital recording was "definitely superior to any other form of recording we know".
Your music argument reminds me of a HOOTERS quote, "Arguing about this is like arguing about which piece of poo is better. They both still stink."
Negligible to you. I can clearly hear a difference.
Karajan might've been right if he was talking about DVD-audio (I definitely can't tell a difference between the audio straight off the turntable and my rips of them), but CDs are :bou::bou::bou::bou:. And new vinyl is definitely superior to CDs. If you think otherwise, either your turntable is :bou::bou::bou::bou: or you haven't heard good new vinyl. To be fair, some record companies just use the same mix for both CDs and vinyl which is just :bou::bou::bou::bou:ty, but good vinyl is sourced from significantly higher quality recordings.Quote:

Make a new thread if you like! But don't revive these crusty old zombies.
