I loved X and VII. I liked X-2 and VIII. I disliked IX and hated XII. I absolutely love XIII and think it's pretty genius.

I loved VI, VII, VIII, IX, X and X-2. I like XII. I'm about 16 hours into XIII and loving the heck out of it!
i love I, II, Mystic Quest, Tactics, VI, really loved IX and XI...Despised X and X-2. So far XIII is a good game. it is easy to just pick up and play. only thing missing is traditional classes and levels for those classes. Other than that its a blast. I think it is a quick game though. Spent 4 days at 2 hours a day roughly for game time and am already at the end of chapter 4. i think there are 15 chapters...some longer than others. but im sure this is the reason why SE created this game plus the 2 sequels that are due on ps3 and psp.
Wow, we're similar. 9 and 10 are my favorites, and I wasn't a huge fan of 8 - I hated 12. I think this is definitely for you if you like 9 and 10 - a lot of this game reminds me of 10, like the fantastically the characters interact. If you want a game where you become attached to the characters, this is it. :)
It's definitely a step up from the travesty of a 'game' that was FFXII.

Its easily one of the worst FF's to date. The games saving grace is its battle system. Its a good thing Square nailed the battle system as all you seem to be doing in this game is fighting. The games presentation is top notch but there is something a bit sterile about the enviorments, especially when you compare it to the pre-rendered backgrounds from FFIX. The soundtrack, while not as memorable as previous games, is still excellent. The story is too confusing for its own good and the characters are mostly forgettable. Its still worth playing though.

Definitely disagreed there. I have only played 8,9,10,10-2 and 12, but I have to say that this bunch is the most memorable and have the most fleshed out personalities. don't know about the classic ff's thoughQuote:

There are definitely mixed views of XIII, as this thread illustrates, which also coincides with many others sources. I'm only 15 hours into the game but let me tell you, this game is scrumptious! The first 10 hours-ish of game-play follow a pretty relaxed pace, and all the elements of the battle system (paradigm shifting, eidolons, item advancement, ect...) are introduced to the player one at a time during this time period. I think this was a smart choice on behalf on the developers and makes the game enjoyable and player-friendly to noobies who may be experiencing the game for the first time.Quote:

XIII is pretty decent so far. I'm hoping the gameplay opens up later on, but other than that I've been pleasantly surprised (it's good to go in with low expectations).
For reference, I liked VI, VII, and XII and I love FFT. I thought IX was okay. I hated VIII and X and I refuse to recognize X-2's existence.
I wonder how close anyone here is to finishing the game.

It's fun. For me personally, I can't do marathons of it. It's good but it's not that good to keep me playing it for many hours on end. It's taken me like what the 6 days to get 10 hours in? And it's not that I don't have the time or anything I'm just not that eager to play it.
It's good but not great enough to hold my attention for long.
May be premature because I'm only at chapter 6, but I'd say the game is a success.
Pros (so far):
-Once you get the hang of it, the battle system is a blast. If you're like me, you'll backtrack to find more battles so you can practice your battle "technique"
-Story and characters are surprisingly well-written up this point. On the surface the characters might seem cliché, but that's only because other games in the genre don't utilize their characters this well. The narrative moves along briskly and there is little to no extraneous bull:bou::bou::bou::bou: interrupting the action (FFX).
-Graphics and music, of course. But this is true of any Final Fantasy game.
Cons (minor):
-As has been said, the levels can feel a BIT sterile at times. They are so gorgeous that you want to peek around, but you can't really, even when there's a nook that looks like your team can enter (they generally can't).
That's all I can really comment on so far, since most of the rest requires playing through the whole game to experience (leveling up, pacing, etc)
To contextualize my perspective, my favourite games in the series are VII and XII followed by V and VI. Most of the rest I generally enjoy too, with the main exception being X, which I quite dislike. Not sure what any of this might be worth.
I love VI through to X. I hated X-2 and XII, and I have looked in depth into XIII and know I would hate that for much same reasons as XII and more besides.

I'd say it's one of the BEST Final Fantasies. My favorites are FF8, FF10, FF6, and now FF13.
The storyline is 100x better than FF12's and the characters have more development in the first 10 minutes than the entirety of FF12 did.
I hate to get peoples expectations all high, but I personally love it. I love the characters, the visuals, the game play. I have few complaints; most of the changes from other FFs I'm happy with.
My favorite FF (next to this one) is IV. I'm not a fan of... most of the other ones. VIII was pretty good.
