Kingdom Hearts Riddles IV

I remember these threads so fondly from when I used to be active, and I remember they were a lot of fun. So I looked through the board and found the old thread, but I thought that this time last year might be a bit too long for a thread to be revived. So, let's continue on where this thread's predecessor died a year ago.

I'll start us off ^^

In darkness I begin,
steps taken into an unknown world,
leading you on a quest for knowledge.

Unlocked with perseverance,
I'm a reward for your determination,
Enjoy the images that you have earned.

Faces blur by us,
as the shadows surround us,
the familiar has been left in the past.

A countdown of destiny,
a glimpse at your journey to come,
in darkness I will end.

What am I?

Hopefully it's easy, but not too easy >_o Have fun guys.

EDIT: for anyone new, or unfamiliar with the riddles threads, they are pretty self explanatory. Make a riddle in any format you wish, make sure it's kingdom hearts related, whoever answers correctly takes the next turn (unless they waive their turn), and try to give other people a shot to have a guess.

Roxas became when Sora got Shadowed and he woke up in a place he didn't know (Twilight Town).
The shadows (Nobodies) gather round Roxas and Sora needing the Keyblade's power.
I don't know about ending in darkness.

Not sure what your guess there was, but keep going at it. Hopefully it's not too obscure, if that's the case I'll start to give some clues, or maybe add another part to the riddle to make it a bit easier.

Oh. Well, my guess was Roxas, but I guess that's wrong, I guess. Do you guess?

Seriously, no one? Well I've added another stanza, and here's an added clue;

This (as in, the answer) was around before KHII was released.

That would actually almost work, but no, sorry.

I'm trying to think of something else I could say to give a better idea of it, without blatantly revealing the answer. I'm not too sure though, if no one can get it I'll forfeit the answer so that the thread doesn't get stale.

Ansem, the Seeker of Darkness - so (SPOILER)Xehanort's Heartless who tells Sora he would not know anything at the beginning of the story, at the end of the first storyline part, who fuses with Riku to give him incredible power but is able to control his heart, et cetera.

This would be my guess.

Ok, I think this one dragged on a bit, and it'll be better if we get different people having a go. The answer was The Secret Ending from the first game (another side, another story).

Anyway, it's first come first serve for whoever wants to do the next riddle. ^^

By "two people" could you possibly mean a whole person, and by "one person" a Heartless or Nobody?

Hopefully that's not too hard or too easy. It's my first attempt at a riddle.

By the way, if you give an answer, I want the reason why you gave that answer. If you just give an answer and give no reasoning, then I will just ask you why you gave that answer. I won't say if it's right or not unless you can give me a satisfactory reason for why you chose your answer, so I know you're not just randomly guessing.

EDIT: Okay, this thread has gone forever with no one guessing, so I'm just gonna reveal the answer.

The answer I was looking for was Ansem, Seeker of Darkness. Here's the reasoning.

I might be a song,
But something feels off about it.

This is actually a bilingual pun. "Ansem" is written "Ansemu" in Japanese phonetics, which is the same way the English word "anthem" would be written.

I might be a human,
But I lack something important.

He's a Heartless, so though he has a human form, he lacks something (i.e. a heart).

I might be the end,
But I am also the beginning.

He is the final boss of the first game, but the first game is the start of the "Xehanort Saga" according to Nomura, so Ansem/Xehanort's Heartless could be said to be starting off the series.

I might be powerful,
But I am not invincible.

Speaks for itself. He's powerful, but Sora is still able to defeat him.

I might be defeated,
But I am not gone.

After his defeat at the end of Kingdom Hearts, he still lurks inside Riku's heart and shows up as the main villain of Reverse/Rebirth mode in Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories. After that, Riku is able to use his power and change his appearance to that of Xehanort's Heartless in Kingdom Hearts II and Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days. Xehanort's Heartless also appears as a villain in Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance.

The real Ansem is known as Ansem the Wise. "Player" here is used as a synonym for "actor", referring to how Xehanort's Heartless is "acting" as Ansem, stealing his name and identity.

The name is Ansem, a.k.a. Xehanort's Heartless.
